Moving to stand at ease, she reached out and shook his hand with a firm grasp. “Nothing for me, no. And yeah, it seems despite over two months of travel and my being prepared for this assignment, Command didn’t feel it prudent to send my transfer orders very far ahead of me.” She shrugged. “Oh well. I can lug my bag around for a few hours. It won’t kill me.” He was being informal but for the moment Faye was going to proceed with caution and not make presumptions.

The return handshake was firm but yielding, nothing needed to prove he was a man or stronger, or anything else was included. At the comment about her gear Balian merely nodded, he approved actually. It was proactivity that made a good officer.

“I must say, that despite the travel distance involved, your transfer was rather expeditious. That sometimes can make an old officer a bit nervous. Your record speaks for itself for the most part. Have a seat, “Balian stated as he moved back around the desk, it was working hours after all. “Here are my expectations plain and simple. “You are here to work with my Computers, and aid where as needed in the Ships missions. That is what I expect you to do. You are Lieutenant Faye Calloway, as far as I am concerned you started today, and anything before today is not relevant, unless it becomes relevant, your tales are yours to tell, as are mine.”

Faye sat and set her bag beside her and simply gazed at him, her stormy grey-green eyes assessing critically. “An appreciated outlook, Captain, though I will say that my experience has often been that people believe their words when they say them but reality proves to be far different. Relevance is, of course, relative. There can be a grey area when one person thinks something is relevant that the other does not. While I personally am comfortable with grey areas, not everyone is and I prefer to not get myself into trouble so soon after I got here.”
