“It’s The Night of Full Moons!” she exclaimed. Realizing that the Captain probably didn’t know what she meant, she explained. “Seven times in six years, the moons are both full. That’s the night of full moons. We celebrate the births that have happened in the past fourteen months, and commemorate those we have lost. Then the cycle begins anew. The years on Galdor are split into sixteen months based on the phases of Lune, our larger moon, and every third year there is an extra month to fix for seasonal drift,” the small ensign explained with a smile. She walked with purpose, but seemed quite relaxed and willing to take some time off her celebration to talk. “Galdor has a cultural cycle of six years, with the beginning of each new cycle being the year where the Night of Full Moons coincided with our equivalent of New Year’s Day, but we also have a cycle of seven periods associated with the Night of Full Moons, each fourteen-month period associated with a different one of our seven ancient gods. This one is going from the Cycle of Etro to the Cycle of Te’enpe,” she added.

Balian nodded, taking in what she was telling him, as a federation member her really should brush up on the culture, especially with one as a member of his crew. “Similar to the aztec day of the dead, remember those that have gone, and those that have come in their place. So how does one celebrate the night of the full moons?” Balian asked genuinely interested. “and which of the ancients are we now associated with, I am assuming similar to the Chinese Zodiac thirteen cycle.”
Fleet Captain Balian Ibn Barazan
“Te’enpe,” she repeated with a small giggle. “He is the god of sky, of wind and clouds, and thunderous lightning. His cycle is one of freedom. We celebrate the Night of Full Moons with some special cuisine made for the day, dances and theatrical productions showing scenes from our Myths, speeches in honor of the born and the dead, feasts, and to end the night many go home to make love with their partner or partners,” she said casually. “One aspect I have missed as the only Arwan around, that is for certain,” she chuckled.
Kaia
Balian nodded, “Well I can help with all but the last. I am always willing to try new cuisine. I absolutely love the theatrical, hence why I was known as the Pirate of of Regula for many years. Though that might be a tale for another time. Perhaps we plan for the next celebration and the crew gets a cultural lesson?” Balian asked of the Ensign.
Balian
“Perhaps, Captain. Although I know there are some festivals that will have to wait until my return to Galdor. Things that cannot be done on foreign… soil,” Kaia chuckled lightly. “I’m sure you understand”
She thought deeply for quite a few moments. “Perhaps the night of stars. Fitting, when we are among the stars in the way that we are. I will get back to you on that, though,” the diminutive alien said with a shy grin.
Kaia
Balian grinned, “please do so Kaia, I am always open to learning, even if I am a stodgy old pirate, as well you might want to cordinate with Jack and William” BBalian was referring to the counselor and Exec, and did not think about the fact that he casually used thier first names instead of ranks. The Captain seemed a congenial enough man but a bit casual about most things, maybe it came with his age and experiences, but his attitude said stress showed up for him rarely, and even then he probably was smiling and laughing as the phasers and torpedoes flew.

Kaia looked at the Captain with a slight amount of confusion. “Who are Jack and William?” she asked, frankly. She knew that humans and other tall aliens had multiple names, but it didn’t really factor into her way of perceiving the world. And she certainly hadn’t learned the first names of those particular officers.
Kaia
Balian barked a short laugh, “My apologies, Commander Jack Creed our Executive Officer, and William Cunningham our Counselor.” Balian responded, his face coloring slightly in either mirth or embarrassment. “So tell me about the night of the stars as we walk.” Balian seemed to be enjoying the conversation, and was willing to wander the ship that was how you got to know your ship.

“Ah, Cmdr. Creed and the Counselor,” Kaia nodded slightly. “It is hard for me sometimes,” she giggled lightly. Her long tail twitched back and forth slightly, and a few of her earrings clinked together, making a nice sound. “You aliens have so many different names that you add onto your names, and it can get somewhat confusing!” she explained.
“Now, the Night of the Stars…” Kaia said thoughtfully. “Well, it’s primarily a time for stargazing. In the city, we climb up to the topmost branches of the trees to watch the stars. There are specific treats that we make - star candy, we call it. And at the end of the night, everyone lights a paper lantern and we let them fly out into the far beyond. I guess that part of it we can’t do, but I can probably find a replicator recipe for star candies. They are small hard candies made in irregular shapes, and they… what’s the word… pop or fizz, I think is the word. When you have them in your mouth.”
Kaia
Balian nodded as he listened, it was an interesting tidbit of cultural information that was being imparted from a species that he knew less than he expected about. That was something that bothered him a bit. He should be familiar with his crew’s traditions and customs at least at a cursory level. A thought did occur to him.
“While they would not be exactly the same, we could release lanterns in the holodeck safely. As for the treats I would love to try them sometime, I have a bit of a sweet tooth.” Balian responded with a grin.

“Holodeck, right,” Kaia laughed politely. “That’s true. I didn’t think of that. I’ll definitely look into getting a simulation of the treetops for that purpose. And a recipe for Star Candy!” she added with a bright smile.
Kaia
Balian smiled, he really did have a bit of a sweet tooth. Moreover he enjoyed cultural exchange for the most part. He assumed it was the Pirate, adventurer, explorer, which made him into the Man that he was. Balian grinned. “I can send a message to the Cultural Exchange officer for the Holoprogram if you like, we keep them on hand for member worlds. Help to train diplomats on common issues. I can no help with the recipe, but can be a testing dummy if you need.”
