It was like the moment they had filed the Command Training program paperwork, things had gotten rolling fast. And while she was studying hard while off-duty (it kept her mind off Dag being in another quadrant), her official position change had come through about the same time as her promotion (the new pip made her smile each time she put on her uniform). And all this meant that she was now dealing with the extra variables that came with her adjusted purview. What a relief it was not to have to pretend anymore! She was an Intelligence officer, with a particular skillset she was using to keep the Manhattan and her crew safe. That part hadn’t changed, but now everyone knew about it and it wasn’t a big surprise.
But with everyone coming back from leave, her and Alex hadn’t had much more than a minute here and there to chat and so today they set aside time to do so. She’d already had dinner, so she was nibbling on a chocolate brownie and had a carafe of coffee and two mugs for them to help themselves. Despite the fact that they might cover some work stuff, she wasn’t on duty and was in her civvies, with her usual cargo pant, boots and t-shirt ensemble. Today’s t-shirt of choice was a vibrant blue deal with white writing that said: I’m not Rude, I just have the MOXIE to say what everyone else is thinking.

Alex walked in and collapsed in the chair across from her. “I swear, this day can suck a d-” and his eyes caught the shirt and narrowed. “That’s not what it’s supposed to say, Faye.” and he smiled. He then said “Oooo, coffee!” and poured a cup.
Looking up, she smirked. “No, it’s what I wanted it to say. Balls are overrated. Besides it was this or the one that said I’ll be nicer if you’ll be smarter.”
“So… did you finish the Interpersonal Dialogue Between Cross-Species Command Officers module? And did you take the practice quiz?”
Alex
Pouring a cup now that he was here, Faye chuckled softly. “Yeah. Module was fine. Blah, blah blah. Observance of cultural mores is important. Blah, blah, blah. Where customs collide, it behooves both parties to reach a compromise, but one person may have to conceded more depending on the situation and what the desired outcome is. I did the practice quiz and I passed, but didn’t do as well I as I should have because apparently ‘Bite me’ is the wrong response to an overly aggressive person in a confrontation.” She managed to say this entirely straight-faced and sipped on her coffee.

Alex chuckled. “I think we had a Commander who said ‘I’ve met some pr##ks in my time; but you, sir, are a f@#!ing cactus.’ So I’ll give you credit for restraint.” and he chuckled again as he took a sip of coffee.
“And hey, I’ve moved past my talking with my fist phase, so I figure it’s excellent progress!” And she wasn’t joking either.
“So… mentoring aside… how are you doing? How’s everything with the giant green roadblock? And how’s your mom? You know, there are times I actually miss running into her skulking through the ship.” and he laughed.
Alex
Faye’s eyes glimmered. “You know, I really miss her. I was getting used to having her around, but I feel like now that I have my official Intelligence status I can takeover playing the skulky person just to keep everyone on their toes. As for how she is, well from the message I got this morning sh’s, uh, living her best life out on Pikelsimer’s land.” Her mouth twitched and try as hard as she might, Faye couldn’t entirely suppress the laugh that wanted to come out.

Alex’s eyes narrowed and a small smile played across his face. “Faye… why are you trying not to laugh?” was all he said as he waited for Faye to either talk or fall out laughing.
Alex
“Okay, in a little bit when we’re done here, we’re going to go to my quarters and I will show you what she sent me, which I’ve got to send to Dag as well- speaking of green hulks- but”-she leaned forward-“the two of them got hitched the other night. Some subspace justice of the peace, though, dude, that’s not what I would call her.” She couldn’t help it. the airy fairy tone of the woman floated into her head and she burst out laughing. “They played the sober couple really well but there’s no way in hell they were sober when they did that. And I think you’ll agree!” Faye said, laughing so hard her voice was pitching high.
