“Deal,” she said without missing a beat. Faye leaned in slightly “But don’t worry, I’ll be prepared. And if things do go wrong and I burn some relays, I’ll personally help to replace them, since I actually know how to do that.” She grinned slightly. “You’ll find I’m full of surprises.”

Hammor smiled as an oddly melancholy look swept across his face and then vanished as he said “Aren’t we all…” and then he took a deep breath and said “So. You just arrived, yeah? How about a bite and then I’ll give you the grand tour? Or you can get settled and then we could do it later, if you like. I don’t sleep much, so my schedule may be easier to work around than yours.”

Normally, the old Faye would have feigned busyness or tiredness and done what she could to avoid the social interaction. She wasn’t going to go out of her way with it at the moment, but the new and determined Faye saw things differently. She had promised herself that she would try to stay open to whatever positive things might come her way on the Manhattan, and not just because it was a part of her assignment. “A tour? Sounds good. I could use a visual reference to match the specs I’ve memorized. And I could probably eat too. I’ll warn you though, I can eat quite a bit. I’m still sorting out my metabolism these days.”
