Though they were in a lift and she was expecting it to move, not having your sight to ground you was always a little unnerving. She wobbled a little but she knew he still had her. “Commander Q’Teel in Ops, I know her well. She and I get along quite well actually. We share a dislike of people who ask redundant questions when we’ve already given the needed answer. I appreciate her efficiency.” The talking helped that weird sense of not being able to gauge the passage of time.

The lift slowed and stopped, and the doors opened.
Fresh air… there was fresh air wherever they were. And then the smells came through: pine… citrus… earth… florals… woods…
Her face scrunched up as she tried to make sense of what she was smelling. It was incongruent with anything she might have been expecting.
“Ok, open them.” Daggum said softly.
They were standing on a metal platform… in the middle of a massive garden. Straight above them was the same transparent ceiling as teh restaurant, but all around them were hundreds of different types of plants. Trees were planted and were several meters taller than Daggum. And to the practiced eye it looked like a well planned and well designed arboretum, to the layman it would appear as if they were simply standing in the woods.
Faye opened her eyes and audibly gasped.
“So the plants are chosen to provide maximum oxygen generation. That supplements the permanent residence’s life support. Also allows for fresh water. The atmosphere and climate controls were a gift to the station form one of the local civilizations… apparently they have a level of refinement in life support we haven’t achieved yet.” He looked down at Faye and said “Faye… would you go for a walk in the woods with me?”
Daggum
She was shaking her head in awe as she asked the question, but as she lifted her gaze to his, he’d know the answer. “I’d love to. I totally wore the wrong shoes, but it seems they thought of that too.”
“Take ‘em off if you want. I’ll carry ‘em for you.”
Arm through his, Faye just kept shaking her head. “And here I thought my garden was an engineering marvel…” Faye just laughed, almost giddy.

“Yours is… and you did yours with less than a tenth of what they had to use.” Daggum replied and squeezed her arm.
He led her wordlessly through the plants and trees. He didn’t speak, didn’t interject himself into her reverie of the psuedo-natural wonder. But every now and then, randomly; he would stop, take her in his arms and kiss her. Not with hunger or insistence… but with love, pure and undiluted. And then… they would just keep walking.
