Daggum shook his head and smiled. “Ms. Calloway, if I didn’t know better, I would say you were making a pass at me. Careful… its not too late to cancel one of the rooms.” and he laughed.
“Tempting.” The truth was that before she had arrived on the station and even well into their wanderings together she had felt comfortable with the idea that they would go back to their own rooms alone tonight. And then maybe one of the other nights during their week together, they would venture towards being that physical. Today just went and threw that all blissfully out an airlock. Yes, she could go back to her room alone, but they both knew that wasn’t how tonight would end. And after all their discussions, Faye was really looking forward to it. It might require a couple precautions, but she could handle that.
“I love you.”
Daggum
Faye grinned. “Well this would be a hell of an extravagant first date if you didn’t. Not that I’m complaining. Though I’m starting to wonder if we’ve set a record somewhere for most unusual first date or something,” she said as she moved her beef tips to the side. There were a few left but she had had enough.

Daggum grinned and shrugged. “Well, let’s see… unique venue? Check. Overt romantic gestures? Check. Dissapearing tableware? Check. Potential life-long commitment? Potential check. First date jitters? Double check. Oddly shaped food and unknown culinary explorations? Check. Love, at this point I think all we need is a clown car with Klingons driving it to make the top five most unusual dates.” At that moment, a chime beeped and Daggum said “Oh yes!!! Perfect timing! Come here…” and he stood up and moved over to the side of, but away a few steps from, the table. “Ok, Faye. This should be more amazing than the water thing.” and he held his arms out to here, beckoning her to him.

Getting up and mindful of the tall narrow heels on her leather boots, Faye walked over and slipped an arm around him, resting her body against his, the silk taffeta of her dress rustling. “More amazing that the water glasses dissolving. You either speak in understatement or have a high bar for amazement my dear.”

Daggum smiled and turned and put his hands on her waist, and slowly and deliberately looked down between them, watching to makes sure her eyes followed his. Staring through the transparent floor, they seemed to be dancing on the stars. The lights dimmed, leaving them lit by a barely visible glow, but letting them see space below them clearly. Nothing happened for a few moments…
She gazed down, relying on the solidity of their bodies to keep her steady.
And then, in a flash, they saw the mechanics of the Universe.
Directly below them, the wormhole opened. The orientation of the station put them seemingly standing directly over the opening into time-space, and the coating on the transparent aluminium floor brought the normally invisible wavelengths into clear view.
Below them was a swirl of energy, of space, of time itself. A vortex of everything and nothing. Daggum took a sharp breath and his hands gripped Faye’s waist, as if he was holding her to keep her from falling into the every-color imaginable spiral of creation and destruction. The light was intense… and then it was gone. A ship must have arrived, but it was much too far away to see.
Faye gasped softly, her eyes transfixed. But it was more than just awe that swept through her. It was like the Universe itself stilled her, made everything slow down to an impossibly sedate pace.
Daggum cleared his throat and looked at Faye. He was breathing slightly fast and his eyes were wide as he smiled at her. “So… better than the evaporating glass?”
Daggum
Her hands slipped down his body as she carefully lowered herself to the transparent floor, settling on her knees. Hands placed on the deck, her widespread fingers framed where the wormhole had been, as if she was still seeing it. She had seen the wormhole before, but this was different. She didn’t know why but it was so incredibly different. Was it her? Was it them? All she knew was that she was deeply and terribly moved and she wasn’t sure there were words to express it.
Somewhere in her mind, more pieces slipped together. Click, click, lock.

Daggum knelt in front of her, and he took her hands in his. “Faye… Faye… are you ok? Are you still with me?” he asked softly, his hands gently squeezing hers.
