Daggum took her hand and said “I’m really sorry that had to happen, Faye. And while I wouldn’t change the outcome to save my life, I wish the journey here hadn’t needed to be so painful for you. I think both of us have had enough pain… we’ve earned our joy and happiness. And I suppose that no one else but us could appreciate that as much as we do… so it’s a good thing we found each other. And… and I have never been happier than when I am with you. Tonight, today… a year ago when we sat together on the Manhattan… those moments and this one are the best ones of my life, so far. And all them have you in common.” and he squeezed her hand and then took a drink.

As she so often could, Faye got lost a little in those emerald eyes of his and yet there was never a risk of losing her way. “Gods, we’re sappy she said with a giddy little grin. She wasn’t complaining, either. “A year ago I would have rolled my eyes at a couple like us. And here we are.”

“Seriously. I’m stealing a case of this stuff. The Lounge manager on the Athena and I are at odds… maybe a peace offering is in order.” and he chuckled.

Faye laughed lightly and sipped from her glass again. “Okay, so two things: what’s up for the lounge manager, and are we ordering all our courses art once or one at a time?”

As if on cue, the server arrived again and handed them each an elegant menu and then said “I will return for your order in a moment.” and then left. Daggum opened the menu and said “So I hope I did okay with the selections.”

The menu was printed and broken into four sections. In the appetizer section there was a choice between Spicy Mantruvian Oranges, Denobulian Mussels in White Wine, and a Charcuterie of Delta Quadrant meats and cheeses. In the salads section the choices were between a classic Earth Wedge salad, Chilled Tarkanian Prawn Cocktail, and a wholly-unpronounceable-but-possibly-fruit-maybe? salad. Entrees choices were Bajoran Beef Tips and Wild Mushroom Gravy, Roasted Vulcan vegetables, and Sweet and Sour Peasant Soup (it is an entree!). The dessert section was Bajoran Chocolate Cake, Tireesian Tiramisu, and Ice Cream (assorted flavors, no strawberry).

Daggum looked at her and said “I really tried to keep it easy, but still leave you room to explore a bit.”

Faye inhaled slowly and nodded and when she looked up at Daggum, she smiled. “Doable,” she said with relief. Having also never been to a fancy restaurant, she was already slightly self-conscious about being here, but that had been fading rather fast the longer she sat here with Dag. “The last thing we need is extra places for my brain to carve new paths through. “You should have seen me trying to figure out clothes for this week,” she said with a lopsided smirk.

Daggum winked and said “I packed sixteen times since we first decided to do this… four times the night before I left.”

When the server returned and it was her turn to order, Faye bit her lower lip and then exhaled. “Okay, I’ll have the oranges to start, then the mussels, beef tips and…” Faye grinned wider, “…the chocolate cake.”

Daggum smiled said “Charcuterie, Prawn Cocktail, Beef Tips, and Tiramisu please. Thank you.” and the server smiled. “Excellent choices all around. I’ll bring small plates for sharing as well.” and they left through the partition. Daggum looked back at Faye and said “We should come here for every anniversary we have.” and then his eyes went a little wide. “Um… if we have those, that is. I mean…” and then he took a deep breath and just chuckled. “I didn’t mean anniversary anniversary… just like… you know… any time we celebrate being together. Annnnd I’m gonna shut up now and drink my blue-juice.” and he smiled even as his face went a much darker shade of green.

Faye just stared at him as he seemed to spin in verbal circles and dig holes. Finally, she just grinned. “You are cute when you change shades. You’re not unlike some of the areas of the garden.” Faye picked up her glass. “But too late Hammor, can’t take it back. I mean you could, but I’m a smart woman, remember? I know you well enough now to know you don’t want to.” Then she took a sip from her drink

Daggum blushed again and then looked at the table before looking up at her. “Sorry… I j-… just… I mean I didn’t want to make you uncomfortable. Or feel like.. well… anything other than happy to be here. And I won’t lie and say I haven’t thought about it before, but thats… you know… the future. Not right now.” and he smled and shook his head.

“Now in a normal first date, this is where the guy orders a stiff drink and the girl says ‘Excuse me.’, goes to the bathroom and climbs out a window to get away form creepy weirdo.” and he took a drink.

“Needs vodka.” and he grinned at her.
