Daggum looked at her and said “Yeah… still not as amazing as you, though.” and he winked.

Faye just gave him a lopsided grin.

“So, this is your first date ever? Man, kinda blew my big romantic gesture that soon… please don’t take that as personal trait.” and he grinned.

Faye laughed lightly. “Well, if it helps, I’ve had no expectations really, so I don’t think you blew anything,” she said softly.

“Well, at this point of the date, people tend to talk awkwardly about small things, trying to get a feel for each other and figure out what the potentialities may be between them. And kudos… we’ve done that already because we are so efficient. So now, we can just have dinner together and actually not worry about what the future may bring. But that leaves a very important question to answer…” and he took her hand and looked directly into eyes.

She squeezed her delicate fingers around his and looked expectantly. “Yes?”

”… what are you having for dinner?” and he grinned.

Daggum

Leaving her gloved hand in his for the moment, Faye’s eyes widened. “Dinner! Is that what we’re doing here?” she said with feigned surprise. “Well, I suppose it depends what’s on the menu, now doesn’t it?” At this she just smiled deeply, her eyes intense.

“Well… about that. So when you said this was your first date, I didn’t want you feeling overwhelmed by anything but me.” wink “So I asked them to pair down the massive menu they have to a selection of three each appetizers, salads, entrees, and dessert. I also took the liberty of getting drinks… non-alcoholic, of course.”

Almost as if in slow motion, Faye’s face morphed, the awe once again etching itself into every feature. Her lips moved as if she was going to say something but then…

At that moment, the server knocked and then came in. They carried a silver bucket with a bottle in ice in it and two flutes. They set the bucket on a small stand next to Daggum and poured the glasses half full of a bubbly blue-green liquid and they left.

She watched the bubbles rise from the brightly coloured drink and Faye couldn’t explain it but this incredibly happy feeling came over her.

“Gravien Apple Cider. Apparently the Manhattan is getting a bunch of cases from the Ministry. I figured we could try it first.” He raised his glass. “I love you, Faye. I always will. And no matter the distance, the time, or the obstacles… I am always yours and yours alone.”

Daggum

Incomprehension swept over her and Faye sat there, mouth slightly open and just shook her head. But it wasn’t a no- it wasn’t a reply. “Dag…” she whispered, eyes moist with tears. All of this! Was she overwhelmed? Oh, definitely. But unlike the last six weeks, she didn’t want to escape and hide from that feeling. The emotions made it hard for her to speak, but she smiled. No, beamed, her eyes bright from beneath the tears.

Her hand slightly shaking, Faye reached for the glass, and though she was afraid she’d spill it, she managed to hold it aloft. What could she say? How could she even match his words? His actions? Lips trembling slightly, she felt like some part of her might burst. “I… I think we were made for each other… from… from the stars,” she said finally. It was the only explanation for the strange set of circumstances that brought them together and made her be ready to have him in her life? She rarely made promises, mostly because she swore she wouldn’t make ones she couldn’t keep. Promises so often felt like, and had been, traps, but in his words were promises.

And she believed them.

He smiled at her and touched his glass to hers. “Then I owe the stars… everything.” He took a sip and his eyes widened slightly. “Um… thats actually amazing. He took another sip and set the glass down.

Faye was so full of emotion that she knew if Tess had been here, she’d crawl into her lap and be turning circles. It wasn’t negative emotions either, but Faye couldn’t quite wrap her brain around it all. The clink of her glass brought her attention back to Dag and she smiled and took a sip. Sweetness filled her mouth. “Wow! Unexpected and sweet, just like us,” she said, giving him a grin. Gods that was cheesy!

“You know… if I could stop time at a one moment, I think this would be it. And I still can’t believe we are here.”

Daggum

Faye took another sip and put the beautiful drink to the side. “Yeah, same. I keep thinking of all the things we both had to go through in order for this to be happening.” She leaned forward slightly, her heavy jewelled necklace swinging away from her neck slightly. “I mean, let’s be honest, I had to fall long and hard recently in order for everything to be broken open. That’s how I feel Dag, notbroken but broken open. And because I have been, there’s room for you, and the idea of you and I where there couldn’t have been before. And all I can feel is awe about it all.”
