Soaking up the sensation of his lips on hers (they were tingling) Faye smiled beneath their kiss. “You are making it hard to leave though,” she said pulling away.

Stepping away, Faye turned and fished out her key card. “Back in a jiff.” A tap and beep and Faye disappeared into her room.

Inside, Faye exhaled before grinning widely, thinking about his reaction. Yes, just. Like. That. She took a moment to set the roses upright in a vase (she removed the fake flowers rather cheekily), and once again left the room.

Stepping out, Faye beamed. “Well, then dinner awaits and I look forward to strolling there with you.”

Daggum offered her his arm and said “The evening awaits my love. Let us adjourn.” and he led her to the lift. As the doors closed, he grinned and said “So I met your mom today.”

Faye rested a leather gloved hand on the side of the life. “Oh yeah? Did she do the scary Shara trick? You know, serious piercing eyes and uncomfortable silence? It’s very good, and she plays it very well.” It didn’t surprise her that her mother slipped into the picture in her own way. Her mother was protective her and while some might find it annoying, after all they’d been through, Faye found it kinda endearing.

“Yeah, something like that. Told me I needed to tell her what she needed to know.”

Faye’s lips curled into a smirk.

“I told her no. Told her that what you and I do and say and are is up to us and is nobody else’s business but ours. And I told her that you are safer with me than anyone else in the universe. Not sure what her reaction was, because I let the doors on the lift close.” and he looked down at her. “Hope that’s okay with you.”

Faye snorted and a few chuckles emanated from her. Taking a step closer to him, she shook her head. “Dude… playing with fire much?” she said, resting a gloved hand on his arm. “Though I’m very glad you came out of the exchange unscathed, and same with her. I’m not sure I could handle the two of you being at odds and since she didn’t start off with a threat, I’m thinking it bodes very well.”

“Well, I guess I’ll take it as a win for Team Us, then.”

“She means well, she does. But do try to remember that she missed out on twenty-five years of parenting and her first shot at it was having to watch her daughter be tortured. I’m trying to give her a lot of leeway as she tries to figure it out.” Faye grinned, gazing deeply into his eyes. “And you’re right, I’m safe with you and it feels very wonderful my gem,” Faye said, though she immediately her look of scrutiny swept over her face as she tried to assess whether that term of endearment worked for her, and them, or not.

~Faye Calloway

“I know she means well, Faye. That’s why I didn’t get mad. It was kinda cute, actually, her trying to balance the whole ‘doting mother’ and ‘I’ll kill you where you stand’ thing. Gods, she was terrible at it, though.” and he looked at Faye and smiled and winked.

Faye giggled. Actually giggled. She could almost imagine the whole exchange. “She wasn’t trying very hard then,” she said knowingly.

“But I give her points for making the effort, though. Even if she was dressed like she was expecting the Obsidian Order.” and he chuckled.

Faye laughed and it flowed through her body. Grinning madly, she shook her head. “You know, sometimes I don’t think I gave my father enough credit for being a balancing influence. He was the calm and quiet one. Mom was the passionate, pick a fight in the bar type. Much happier out of the woods than doing the more mundane chores of life in the settlement. And I kind of wonder whether her experiences and all the insane amount of training she’s had have actually changed her or it’s just the same and just well masked.” The lift opened and Faye stepped out, turning back swiftly enough that the skirt of of her dress flared out a bit as she did. “But either way, she’s been been interesting to get to know all over again.”

“I look forward to the process myself, then. Now… no more talk of anyone that isn’t us.” and he glanced up. “There’s the door.”

A non-descript door at the end of the hall had softly glowing lettering above it: ‘The View’. A line of people stood along one side of the hall, and a Benkaran woman in an all-black dress stood at a podium by the door. Daggum led Faye up to her and smiled. “Lieutenant Commander Hammor. Resrvation for two.” Shesmuled and looked at the display and said “Yes, sir. One moment.” and a few seconds later the door slid open. “Sir, Madame.” said a tuxedoed Maitre’d. “Your table is ready. Please follow me. Watch your step.”

As they stepped through the door, they stepped into space.

Not really, but the wholly transparent floor and walls made it seem that way for a moment. Daggum rocked slightly and then chuckled. “Holy s%$t thats cool.” he whispered to Faye and then chuckled.

They followed the man to the far side of the restaurant, where elegant partitions separated tables and provided some privacy to the diners. It was to one of these they were led and sat at. The wall before them curved gently and they had an uninterrupted view of the vastness of the cosmos.
