She tucked her head under his chin and rested against his chest, one hand trailing slowly up and down his forearm. “I like the bigger bed,” she laughed softly, “and I was right, your feet don’t hang off the edge.” She shivered slightly and with a soft yawn tucked herself closer in his arms. “If we’re going with your rule of no clothes when it’s just us, either the temperature has to go up, or you have to keep me warm.” She kissed his neck softly and with another small yawn she closed her eyes and listened to the sound of his heart beating, and grinned because it was going as fast as hers was.

“Well, they hung off that one time… but I caught myself. Next time warn a guy before you bend over like that. I thought I was gonna break a hip.” and he grabbed the blanket and pulled it over her. “Oh, I have every intention of keeping you warm, Wife. As often and as creatively as I possibly can.” His eyes closed and he was just about to nod off when there was a chime of a message being received. He shook the shoulder she was laying on gently and said “Technically it’s your house. You have to answer the comms. Probably for you anyways.” and he yawned and blinked his eyes.

She grinned, “I did warn you, on stage, right before I kissed you, I told you that was the only warning you were ever gonna get. Besides,” she wound her arms slowly around his neck and began to kiss him, deeply, seriously, and then she pulled away, “you said you could handle me.” She teased and then snuggled back down.

The blanket along with Mike made her warm and more drowsy. She had every intention of falling asleep next to him and was at that point where any disruption would cause irritation. “They can leave a message.” And then it beeped again, and a third time. She got up thoroughly irritated, slipped her shirt and skirt back on and tried to fix her hair to no avail. She walked out to the comm panel and hit the button. “Yes?”
Revna ‘honeymoon people!’ McKenzie

It wasn’t a call, but it was a video message. A harried looking human male with bright red hair and full beard was walking through some kind of bog or moor. The sky behind him was overcast and gray. The look on the man’s face was one of concern… almost fear.

“Michael.” the man said, a thick Scottish accent already noticeable. “Listen… dunnae call back to her, ya her?” and he shook his head ruefully. “She dunna wanna hear from ye. I do, ya know that. I still loves ya, Michael. And I still fight for ya and I’ll keep fightin’ till ma last breath. But your da…” and he gritted his teeth in anger and hate, “… when he killed ya ma he killed the soul ‘a dis family. And what they did… ignoring ya all these years and leaving ya ta da wolves and the English… it tain’t right, Michael! But they lost their heart when he did it, ya know as well as me. Listen, I’ll call ya when I can, a’ight? And congratulations, brother mine. I know she must be a right lass for her to win you over. And I saw da vid! Easy on da eys, now ain’t she? Nice chest, too! Tell her I said soo!” and he smiled and laughed, but there was a bitterness to it. “I miss ya, Mikey. I gotta go. They’ll be askin’ where I went. Be good, lad. Cheers.”

Unknown Vulgar Scotsman

Normally Revna would never listen to Mike’s messages, but her husband drive her to distraction and left her fuzzy headed in a totally satisfied way. So it took a moment or three for her brain to catch up to her ears. As soon as the man mentioned Mike’s father she paused the message. She didn’t have to hear the rest to know that Mike was paying the price for his father’s actions. That he probably had been since he was a child, by the people who should have protected him and loved him. Her blood began to boil, training and compassion be d@&+ed. Mike had love to give in spades and if they couldn’t see that, see him as his own person Odin curse them, they didn’t deserve him.

It never occured to her to not tell him. That wasn’t her choice. It was his to decide if he watched it or not. She transferred it to a PaDD and walked slowly back down the hall towards the bed room. She slipped her shirt and skirt off before climbing back into bed with him. Mike was hers, not a patient or a colleague, her husband, the other half of her soul. He had family now, who wouldn’t bat an eye or care what his father had done. That would judge him on his own merits. “I love you not who anyone else sees, not what the universe sees, you.” She caressed his face, and kissed him gently. “The message is for you if you want it.”

Revna ‘I’ll kill them if they hurt him’ McKenzie

Mike looked at her confusedly, but shrugged and started the message. He paused it, took it back to the beginning, and put an arm around her and pulled he close. “My cousin Seamus. Know when I said I have twelve cousins and ten are twins? Seamus isn’t a twin.” and he hit play.

She curled up tight to his side, one arm slipping around his back where they sat propped against the pillows. Her head resting just below his shoulder. “I’m not sure if he’s lucky or deprived to not be a twin.” Revna let out a short laugh and then watched as it played. She’d seen the first few seconds of it, but the more it played the angrier she got. It didn’t show on her face, too many years of deep ingrained habit, but she determined right then she was going to find this woman, whoever she was, and either help her through her grief and heal her family, or she was gonna knock her on her a##. She felt Mike’s heart start to pound under her cheek and her left hand came up to rest over his heart and she kissed him there briefly. He wasn’t alone.

As it played, Mike breathed slow and deliberately; but his heart pounded. When Seamus mentioned Revna and her… assets… he laughed softly. When it was done, he shut off the PaDD and said “He always was a good one, that Seamus. Now…” and he looked down at Revna.

She chuckled, “At least he has good taste.” Seamus seemed like a good guy, the only one out of a whole clan. Petty grudges and blaming the son for the sins of the father. No wonder they were so easy to pillage. The thought was unkind, it really was and Revna knew that, but they hurt Mike, since he was a child. Maybe because of earlier and the fleeting chance she’d been carrying Mike’s child already, but the idea that if something happened to them their children could be tossed to the wind, when they should have family. She just could not wrap her head around it.

“Where were we?” and he gave her a wink.

Mike ‘I’m Used To It By Now’ McKenzie

“We were falling asleep, but I’m not tired anymore.” She sat up and moved onto his lap, facing him, arms draped around his shoulders. “I need you to hear this, or maybe I just really need to say it, but I do. not. like. them. And I know that is unkind and judgmental of me, but right now that’s how I feel. I like Seamus though, he’d probably be able to hold his own with us.” She kissed him then, pouring every drop of depth of her love for him into it. “I love you, not because of your parents or inspite of them. I love you Michael McKenzie. And you have more family that doesn’t care either.”

Revna ‘Shield-maiden mode Activated’ McKenzie

“Rev…” and he put his arms around her so his hands rested on her backside, “… I need you to hear this. Its fine. Really. I came to terms with this years ago. The person I called? Her name is Terra Meagan McKenzie. She’s my grandmother. And the head of the McKenzie clan. And she loved my dad more than anything 8nbthis world. And she can’t bear to look at me because… well… hang on a sec.” and he picked up the PaDD and tapped a few commands.

“Here. This is a picture of my father.” and he turned the PaDD around. There, staring back st Revna, was Mike. But that Mike was much thinner. Gaunt, one could say. And where her Mike had an infectious and positive energy, the eyes of the man in the picture spoke only hatred and self-loathing.

“My grandma is a good woman, actually. But the last thing she said to me was she can’t help but see him in me. Looking at that, I can see why.”

Mike ‘Family Can Be Hard’ McKenzie

Revna shook her head. “I do understand it’s hard for her. I do, even if I have no personal experience with it. And this is me, the professional talking, that’s a cop out. If it was just her saying ‘I can’t’ that’s one thing, but the whole clan is suffering, Seamus made that clear. She’s created a cycle of trauma for everyone, and it doesn’t have to be that way. He also made it clear she made a child needlessly suffer for actions and circumstances that were out of his control. You are a grown man, now, and you have decided to accept her and her behavior as is, and I’ll respect that. But as your wife, it worries me and breaks my heart for any children we may have in the future. They and she and her family are going to miss out, and they don’t have to. She’s already missing out.” And then she dropped it, for the moment. If Mike and his father looked that much alike she had a feeling it was guilt that drove Terra and she needed help before it got even worse than it already was. But Mike wanted to leave it and with a deep sigh she did.

“That was the quick overview,, honey. There’s some other factors at play, too, and I’d be happy to to tell you the whooooole long drawn out saga, but not now, okay? Maybe after…” and he smiled at her.

She slipped her arms tighter around him, pressing herself closer to him. “Do you want to stay in bed,” she winked at him ,”or should I see about getting the kitchen stocked and we can cook?”
Revna ‘hard but worth fighting for’ McKenzie

“How we stay in bed, then go replicate something, then come back to bed, then go stock the kitchen, then come back to bed, then go cook, and then come back to bed? Yeah, I think that’s the best plan ever.” and he pulled her on top of him and kissed her in that way.

Mike ‘Barry White’s Got Nothing On Me’ McKenzie

She started to laugh, Mike had a great idea, but then he kissed her and the laughter faded away. Mike kissed her a lot, but it was always the way he kissed her. A soft moan escaped her as he kissed her, her body relaxed against his, and heat began to spread between them. Her hands framed his face, fingers combing the edges of his hair and she whispered in his ear, “you forgot the tub…”

Revna closed her eyes, heart racing, chest heaving, a shiver of warmth going down her spine as he held her. She chuckled softly, a light sultry sound, that faded quickly. Then there was a slight wheezing to her breaths as she tried to slow her heart and respiration.
