Stepping out, Faye inhaled the salty air as it caressed her bare skin that was revealed. Long bare legs, supple and well muscled arms, a highly toned torso that at least now had lost its skin and bones appearance. Nothing her yoga outfit hadn’t shown off, but it was different, and she understood that. And because she wanted to save Dag any further mortification, she stepped quickly through the soft sand to the water.

Reaching the shoreline. Faye’s eyes traced the visible bottom and she was reassured she wouldn’t hit anything. She took running steps into the water and and then pushed off, launching into a graceful arc into the surface of the waves. She would let Dag catch up when he was ready. See? She could learn. Once she had thought herself just naturally hopeless, but she had the capacity to learn those tiny social cues if people would just suck it up and be honest already. And she loved him too much to purposefully make him uneasy, even if was sort of the good kind. Maybe later. But not now. They still had a dinner to go to, after all.

Daggum emerged and looked around, spotting Faye out in the water. He trotted towards the waves and made his way out far enough to submerge his body and then dropped fully underwater. He pushed up form the sandy bottom and broke the surface, shaking his head to clear the water from his eyes. He saw Faye about thirty yards ahead, and smiled to himself. He dropped under the water and began swimming along the bottom, his eyes fixed on her from under the surface.

Her hands moving back and forth as her legs kicked to hold her stationary, Faye had closed her eyes and tipped her head to the sun. Momentarily lost in the warmth, she didn’t know he was so close, though she was expecting him to join her soon enough.

As he closed the gap, he rolled over swam looking up until he was directly below her and then rose gracefully to the surface and lifting out of the water with his body; like an ocean-going platform lifting a smaller vessel free of the waves “Surprise! Bet you didn’t know you could use me as a flotation device, did you?” and he smiled at her.

Faye let out a little shriek of surprise, but it really came out more like a squeak.

Laughing, she gazed down at him, her legs hanging off his side, water trailing down her skin. “Well, if you had told me this was a part of the whole deal I would have said we should have done this sooner. I didn’t know I’d get my own personal raft,” she said with a grin, he hands bracing herself on his large torso. She wasn’t small compared to most Human woman, but man she was comparatively tiny to him!

The sun glinted off her silver IDIC pendant as water dripped down from it too.Her fingers traced it as she gazed deeply at Dag. “We had a lake at the settlement on Tracken. During the warmer seasons I swam in it every single day nearly without fail. Sometimes to cool off after a hard day of physical work, sometimes just to find peace. It was like when I was in the water, nothing else existed. Even in the stars I’m too… aware of everything. But in the water I can be lost for a little. In a good way.”

Daggum relaxed and let the water float the two of them. The sun was fading slowly, but the light contrasted the markings covering his skin. He was a patchwork of scars and markings, each one a story… each ending an unhappy one. But here, with her, none of them mattered. All that mattered was her. Being with her. Holding her.

Loving her and no one else.

As they floated, he looked up at her and smiled. “I wish I could have swam there with you, Faye.” he said softly.

Daggum

“I wish you could have too,” she said, gazing at him, her eyes tracing her body a little, but without the desire this time. “But then I have to remind myself that if you had been there, you wouldn’t be here with me now. And having you here is everything. More than I could have possibly have known to expect,” she said, smiling deeply and softly all at the same time. It was a smile that touched her lip and her yes, making them crinkle ever so slightly at the corners. It was love and desire, contentment and happiness, all rolled into one. It was a smile that was for him and him alone. A smile that would mean she was thinking of him even when he wasn’t there.

She had never smiled so much in her life.

Carefully slipping off him into the deep, Faye spread her hands out and propelled her self to the surface, treading water. “I really want to kiss you right now,” she said emphatically. But you’re the logistics man. Gotta avoid the drowning and all that.”

“Computer, make the water six and a half feet deep at my location.” and he winked as he was now standing on the bottom. He reached for her and pulled her to him, throwing her arms around his neck. He put his forehead against hers and said “I really want to kiss you always, Faye. From now until all the stars burn out.” and he set his lips to hers and pulled her into him, using his arms and the water to hold her as close to him as he could.
