“He’s coming to see her,” she said softly. Faye had been through such an emotional rollercoaster these last few weeks. Could she handle the intensity of her feelings when they were face to face? Already her mind was coming up with an action plan. Just a basic set of things to put in place should something happen that set Faye spiralling.
Shara sat up, the sheet bunching around her waist. “So either they’re perfect for each other because they both have been through hell and get each other’s trauma, or else they will feed off of and destroy each other.” She blew out a breath knowing that either way she had no say in it. Her right hand was suddenly enveloped by her left and her left thumb rubbed hard on her right hand as she pondered if she should say anything. It wasn’t her story and yet it was deeply affecting her and she trusted Micah. She knew that this wasn’t some exchange of confidences between lovers that would be used against each other, or others, later. “I looked him up,” she murmured and looked at Micah.
“After she fled the Dominion attack on Tracken, she was captured. Her and her childhood best friend were captured , though they simply killed my best friends. Orion mercenaries, Micah. They were sold as servants and some wealthy business man bought them. My baby girl!” she said slapping a hand on her chest. “And after Faye had to see one last dead body of someone she had loved, she kept going. She fell in love with that Orion man, Micah. She didn’t say that exactly but I could tell. And she traded herself for her freedom. I had to go for a walk at that point because I couldn’t bear it.” The rage was still inside her but it was safely under lock and key until she was ready to let it out. And that time was not now. “But since then I’ve looked up this man that bought my daughter. He’s alive still. And I have been debating about whether Faye should have the information I have or not. I can’t tell if it would be closure or cruelty.”
Micah set his hand on hers and pressed to keep her from rubbing her skin raw. “Okay, you need ta take a breath, alright? One, if Faye hasn’t looked him up then there is no reason for you to go opening that can ‘a gagh. If she had wanted to find him, she would have found him and you know that already. You looked him up for you, not for her. Two. What Faye did was get herself out of a bad spot. You going back and rehashing that for her ain’t gonna do nothing but hurt a whole lotta people for no reason. Three. Faye seems to be really happy with this dude. And he is a good guy, Sha. You and both know how to read a file. His ain’t just good, honey. His is a full-blown essay on helping others and standing up for folks what need standin’ up for. You throw this other guy inna the mix, an’ you are just askin for folks to get hurt… emotionally, definitely. Physically probably. And from ‘ol boys file and the comms between him and Faye? S&^t…, you let that Star Fleet Lieutenant Commander know what happened and he just might take it on himself to create a whole new level of ‘Diplomatic Incident’.” and he shook his head. “You keep that to yourself, love. Ain’t no good gonna come from it in any way, shape, or form.”
His response was extraordinarily reassuring somehow. There was a line and this one could not be crossed. And hearing Micah lay out exactly why seemed to relax Shara. She let out a long exhale, releasing all the tension with it and gave a simple nod. “To my grave,” she said softly, the stress gone.
“But tell me that seeking this man Faye is love with, this Daggum Hammor, is a terrible idea. That I should just let it be. That she doesn’t need me to protect her here.” Because the reality was that Shara would absolutely insinuate herself into Hammor’s path and make sure she was absolutely certain that Faye would be alright. She wasn’t there to protect Faye when she needed it most, so like hell she was going to sit idly by if there was something she should do.

Micah smiled and kissed her deeply. Pulling back he said “Mama Bear gonna protect those cubs, ain’t she?” and he smiled. “I don’t see a reason you can’t ‘bump into the guy’ and get an idea for yourself. As long as you play it cool. But don’t get your hackles up… don’t want Faye knowing you are conducting an Op on her beau.”

She laughed. “Oh sweetheart, you’ve met my daughter, right? Tousled with her encryption. I assure you she’s not only expecting it of me but knows exactly how I’ll make it happen before I do. But I’m not going to let that stop me,” she said with a grin, slipping back down the bed to lay next to him again. reaching a hand over, she rested it on the side of his face.
Gazing at this unusual and surprising man, Shara whispered, “Alright darlin’, your turn. You pulled me from the brink, my turn to reassure you about your nightmares.”
