He nodded as he took a drink. “It does. That and meditation really helps takes the edge off. I learned both from the man that got me off Orion, actually. Not a lot of room on an old TGY-86 freighter to exercise, so we did Tai Chi daily. Easy on the joints, helps with flexibility and balance… yoga without the pseudo-pornographic pose names.” and he laughed and smiled at her. “Mediation was the key to me actually getting into the Academy.” Damn… why does she have to look so good! he thought to himself. A familiar sensation began to form and he said “So what now?!” slightly louder than he intended and quickly made to pack up their belongings, keeping his back to her until things… settled down.

Faye was going to comment about her inability to meditate since her return form Romulan space, but Dag’s sudden urge to change the topic of conversation rather startled her. “Ummm, I don’t know,” she said rising to her feet, her brows knit together. “I think we have a bit more time in the holosuite, but you did mention dinner. It’s a little early, though I don’t know what time it is set for or if it’s even tonight.” She closed the distance and rested a hand on his shoulder blade. “Dag, is everything okay?”

He involuntarily took a sharp breath in when she touched him. “Yep! Fine!” The touch of her hand did not help matters (or maybe it did, depending on one’s point of view), and he bent lower and fumbled trying to get the yoga mats inside. “Dinner… um… dinner isn’t… uh… dinner isn’t until seven. We could, uh… we could change programs if you wanted? Or… um… we could… uh… swim? Maybe?” Even from behind, the green skin on his bald head darkened several shades.

The terrible thing about their relationship having been over subspace was that she didn’t know how to read Dag. Hell, she didn’t know how to read people in general with any accuracy most of the time. So his disjointed speech and agitation confused her to no end. She pulled her hand away as he bent forward, like she had touched something hot.
She could feel her heart suddenly pounding in her head and Faye exhaled a steading breath. She had done something. Maybe it was something she had said? Her fingers reached for her necklace and she twisted the cap on the vial of scent, letting it waft gently and ground her. Ahhh, slightly better. Another breath meant she could calm down before saying something. “I like swimming… she said, trailing off. He’s embarrassed, but why? Be a grown up, for godssake! Ask him!! “Dag… did I do or say something? If I did, I’m… I’m sorry.” At least she asked, rather than make assumptions or letting her mind trip head first down a rabbit hole.

Daggum paused his movements and shook his head. “Faye… no… it’s… you did do something, yeah… but it’s not a bad?… thing, I guess? It’s just… well… kind of embarrassing.” He could hear the concern in her voice and the insecurity. “Faye… just… just don’t laugh, that’s all I ask.” and he stood up and turned around.
“No laughter here, promise,” she said sincerely as her eyes swept up and the down his body. “Oh,” Faye said, her expression lightening. The worry vanished and she all she could feel was understanding. At the mortification, not the… situation that caused it.
“Not really anywhere I could adjust without making myself even more embarrassed.” and he quickly set things as right as they could be at the moment. “Sorry… I just… well… you’re amazing to look at, Faye.” and he shrugged.

So easily he said that and she gazed at him, tilting the head slightly. “For the record, this is a first for me.” She looked down over her outfit and then looked back at him. “I was easing into…” Faye shook her head and exhaled out her mouth, grinning. “Ah hell, I’m going to unapologetically make it worse. Computer, one silver one-piece swimsuit fit to my measurements and put it inside a beach hut to change garments.” She cast Dag a grin and moved over to the beach hut. “I’m going swimming,” she declared.

“Let me know if you need help changing!” he said as she closed the door. He smiled and laughed. “That woman, I swear… Computer. Navy blue swimming trunks for my measurements and put it in another beach house for me to change in.” He moved to the construct and walked in, wonder how he would ask Faye when the time came.

Stepping out, Faye inhaled the salty air as it caressed her bare skin that was revealed. Long bare legs, supple and well muscled arms, a highly toned torso that at least now had lost its skin and bones appearance. Nothing her yoga outfit hadn’t shown off, but it was different, and she understood that. And because she wanted to save Dag any further mortification, she stepped quickly through the soft sand to the water.
Reaching the shoreline. Faye’s eyes traced the visible bottom and she was reassured she wouldn’t hit anything. She took running steps into the water and and then pushed off, launching into a graceful arc into the surface of the waves. She would let Dag catch up when he was ready. See? She could learn. Once she had thought herself just naturally hopeless, but she had the capacity to learn those tiny social cues if people would just suck it up and be honest already. And she loved him too much to purposefully make him uneasy, even if was sort of the good kind. Maybe later. But not now. They still had a dinner to go to, after all.

Daggum emerged and looked around, spotting Faye out in the water. He trotted towards the waves and made his way out far enough to submerge his body and then dropped fully underwater. He pushed up form the sandy bottom and broke the surface, shaking his head to clear the water from his eyes. He saw Faye about thirty yards ahead, and smiled to himself. He dropped under the water and began swimming along the bottom, his eyes fixed on her from under the surface.
As he closed the gap, he rolled over swam looking up until he was directly below her and then rose gracefully to the surface and lifting out of the water with his body; like an ocean-going platform lifting a smaller vessel free of the waves “Surprise! Bet you didn’t know you could use me as a flotation device, did you?” and he smiled at her.
