Faye took the glass for Kiama and had a sip as her mind started pondering. And pondering. Lowering her hand with the glass, Faye tilted her head slightly, squinting now and again as she contemplated the different ways that suggestion might go. “Huh,” she said finally. It felt longer to her because her mind was working so hard but it really had only been a few seconds. “I think you might be on to something, actually.” Faye nodded. “Yeah, let’s try that. We have to go to the replicator and grab some options anyway, which means”-she looked down at Tess-“you Missy are just going to have to move. Luckily for you I have a little bed you might like. Even got a small blanket I’ve had next to me while I sleep,” she said, directing the last comment to Kiama. “It’s supposed to help for a faster bonding.”

“I can see why that is supposed to help with bonding,” Kiama replied as she rose gracefully to her feet again. “Shall I hold your glass while you get up and show Tess her bed?” she asked as she reached out with one hand.

“Thanks,” Faye said, handing her glass over. At the moment the bed was in her bedroom but Faye figured it would make more sense to have it in the living room where they would be so Tess knew where they were. Scooping up the feline off her leg, Faye cradled her and carefully pushed herself to her feet. They slipped into the bedroom and Faye settled Tess in the cat bed with the blanket that smelled of Faye. With a quick stroke of her soft fur, Faye rose again and turned to Kiama. “Alright, good to go. She’s sound asleep it seems,” she said with a grin.

Walking towards the replicator, Kiama asked, “How do you like to go about this? What do you think will work best for you?”

“Umm, I’m thinking we grab anything and everything that might work ad then take it all back to my place. I can try everything on and then we simple recycle anything that doesn’t work. Work for you?”

Realising that she was still holding both glasses, Kiama quickly walked over to the coffee table and put them down. As she turned back towards Faye, she said, “Do you want to go straight to the replicator room, or shall we stop by my quarters first? I don’t think any of my clothes will fit you very well, but it might give you an idea what you’re looking for. I have a fair number of different off-duty clothes. Dresses, skirts and blouses in particular.” She chuckled softly. For all her dislike of being forced to attend certain events: I had always loved to dress up, no matter what her plans were.

Pondering for a moment, Faye shook her index finger. “Your place and then the replicator. Come on my lady, show me your fashionable ways,” Faye said with a deep grin on her face.

“It will be my honour, my fair friend,” Kiama replied with a matching grin as she offered Faye her elbow to loop her arm through, if she wanted to.

Calloway chuckled and slipped her arm through Kiama’s.

Faye headed for the door and stepped into the corridor. “What the most beautiful you’ve ever felt?” she asked her friend.

Kiama was silent for quite a long time as the two women made their way towards her quarters. Not because she didn’t want to answer, but because she didn’t know the answer. Her left index finger resting against her lips she pondered that, feeling surprised that she couldn’t easily give an answer. But eventually she said softly, “I think the first time I felt truly seen by someone who loved me and whom I loved and when they looked at me, no matter what I wore and always when I was naked and found me beautiful, even the parts of my body that I don’t particularly like.” Blood had rushed to her cheeks as she chuckled softly as she shook her head. “I’m sorry that sounded awfully cheesy.”

~Kiama Naim

Faye was quiet as they walked in a way that felt very companionable and still was something of a new experience. “No, it’s not cheesy. I think I get it, even if I’m not sure I’ve had a similar experience. There was a moment in my last relationship, fling, affair- whatever you want to dub it- when we were in bed and he’d just look at me and I less self-conscious, even if we were making jokes. The thing I’m trying to work on is to not discount the good bits because bad things happened. And because Nevol was playing me, it’s easy to see just the betrayals. But sometimes he’d look at me in those intimate moments and I just felt beautiful.” She sighed slightly. “That person with that body though came out of her time with the Romulans very different. And I can’t go back. So, Nevol, Kodell, Gods there were others, but they all showed me something I’m still trying to see. It just hasn’t quite come into focus yet.”
