“You sound better. Are you, now?” and he smiled at her. “I don’t mind sitting with you if you need it.” He reached out scratched Tess’s ears and then looked back at Faye.
Was she better? Yes, compared to a few minutes ago. “I’m okay right now, but I do want to sit for a few more minutes before we go anywhere,” Faye said as she fed the end of her chain through the loop on the capsule. Sometimes the distance popped up here and there, fading before she fully realized what had happened. Other times, like now, it was like finding yourself caught in an unexpected thunderstorm.
“So is now the time to crack a joke about you finally getting me into bed? Or should I hold off for a bit?” and he grinned and winked at her.

Faye laughed and was glad for the break in the tension. She leaned over and planted a kiss on his cheek. “Don’t think it hasn’t occurred to me that we’re in my bedroom, on my bed,” she said with her own grin. “But I think under the circumstances it might classify as escaping my feelings and that might get me into trouble with my therapist,” she said with a laugh as she put the necklace around her throat and re-clasped it.
“Well, we can’t have that now, can we? Besides, last thing I need is mental health professional mad at me. Those people scare me.” and he faked a shudder and the smiled at her.
Faye smiled at him softly. “Be grateful for them. They are the reason I’m still here,” she said more seriously, despite knowing he was joking. And it was true. In the dark moments over the last ten years of her life in Starfleet, it had been the mental health professionals that helped her find a reason to keep living, to keep pushing through. Whatever she felt about them, gratitude scarcely covered it.
Faye left the necklace hanging out and fingered the delicate lines. “Remind me to do some yoga or something later though, alright? I think I’m going to have to lean heavily on my coping strategies.” She turned her body towards him and reached up, drawing her fingers down his face. “Though I think I’m becoming a fan of exposure therapy, especially if it’s with you.” Gods she loved him, and she loved him more for not looking at her differently or reacting poorly.

“Faye Calloway. Are you saying you are going to expose yourself to me? I’m shocked. Shocked I say!” and he fanned himself with his hand while grinning He then leaned in and gave her a gentle kiss. Pulling back slightly he said “Yoga, huh? We can do some together. Want to go to the hotel? Maybe see about some time in their holo-facility? We could go to a beach somewhere and do yoga by the ocean?”
Daggum
Her entire face brightened and Faye nodded. “Now that is a great suggestion! I’ve never done yoga on a beach before, but the water makes me feel safe, so it’s perfect. I’ve got yoga clothes back in my room, and it won’t take me long to change.”
“I don’t, but replicators are wonderful things. I just so happen to know how to program them.” Dag said with a wink.
She looked down at the bundle of fur draped on her, dozing. “And I wish I could bring along with me, but I think it’s best you stay here for now,” she said as she stroked Tess. “But the great news is if I need to I can sneak back here for a snuggle if I need to, and you can harass Kiama and my mom all you like in the meantime.”
As Faye extricated herself from Tess, the cat opened one eye, took in the fact that Faye was leaving and closed her eyes again. Now standing, she held out her hands to Daggum. “Hey, before I get distracted by beaches and you doing super flexible poses”-she flashed him a grin-“I do have a more serious thing to ask.”
“Sure, love. You can ask me whatever you want whenever.” and he took her hands in his and looked at her.
“My mom and I realized that a lot of the sh$t we’re dealing with right now together stems from stuff from Tracken. Stuff unsaid, anger over how it all went down, etcetera. So we were talking about having a wake for our friends and family who died. You know a fun celebration of life rather than a somber memorial. With you here, I know that I’d really like you to be a part of it, so we could schedule it during this week. If it’s okay with you and all.”

The corner of Daggum’s mouth lifted in a half-grin and he said “I’d be honored, Faye. Absolutely.” and he stood up and then lowered his head to kiss her gently. “And I guess we are at the meeting the parent stage of all of this, then?” and he smiled. “And I can’t wait.”
Daggum
His lips were warm and Faye thought she’d never stop loving the feeling of them. “Well, Alex did point out rather bluntly that I do many things backwards and you and I have tossed the whole pattern of normal relationship development out the airlock.” Faye grinned. “I think meeting my mom is not the scary usual step it might otherwise be, even if it is Shara Calloway,” she said with raised eyebrows.
“I’m not scared… even though I should be form what you’ve said.” and he chuckled and kissed her again.
Alright, let’s go before I cave and take Tess with us,” Faye said with a laugh.

“Ok, let’s.” the green behemoth said and reached over and scratched Tess’s ears. “See you soon, little girl.” and he looked at Faye. “Shall we?”
