USS Manhattan
Calloway's Quarters- Settling In
She still had to go visit her cargo but since that could wait until later, Faye focused on unpacking her duffel bag which comprised of all her worldly possessions. In short, she didn’t own much and it was as much a preference as it was a practicality.
Moving to the computer terminal, she inputted a series of commands to set-up a real-time subspace link that was encrypted and simply waited.
Faye was mostly done unpacking her clothes when the terminal beeped and she soon found herself gazing at a man with short cut dark brown hair and serious looking grey eyes. Those eyes softened and grew warm when she came into view. =/\=How goes the settling?=/\=
=/\=Oh you know, meetings abound and I’m currently unpacking my stuff. I’ll deal with the cargo later, because frankly I’m exhausted.=/\=
=/\=What, two months in transition wasn’t enough of a vacation for you?=/\= he teased.
She pointed her finger at him. =/\=Don’t even joke, Mr. You know how much studying I’ve been doing?=/\=
=/\=Well, at least you are a consistently good student.=/\= Faye sorted and he continued. =/\=But, in any case, you’re being put to good use. Don’t forget that you were amenable to this. No one was twisting your arm.=/\=
She gave him a sharp look. =/\=I wasn’t complaining,=/\= she said flatly.
=/\=I know,=/\= he said softly. =/\=Just reminding you so that you remember that as you settle in. I know things are complicated, but this is good for you Faye. Don’t forget that. And, dare I say, if you let yourself, you might even enjoy it.=/\=
She exhaled. =/\=It would be easier if we were going through all this hoopla first.=/\=
=/\=Hoopla yes, but necessary hoopla. Stick to the plan and trust yourself. You have a good intuition if you let yourself listen to it.=/\= Faye smirked slightly and snapped off a salute using two fingers. =/\=Hey now!=/\= he said, feigning offence. =/\=That was just rude.=/\=
=/\=I could blow a kiss, but that would be inappropriate,=/\= Calloway bantered back.
=/\=When has that ever stopped you?=/\=
=/\=All depends on the situation.=/\=
He shook his head. =/\=Take care of yourself and just remember everything you’ve learned. Do your best with what you’ve got and everything will be fine. =/\=
=/\=I’ll send word once once I’ve got my bearings.=/\=
He nodded, winked and then severed the comm link.
Gazing at the blank screen, Faye smiled. One way or another this was going to be an adventure and she figured she might as throw herself into it with everything she had. She just hoped the Manhattan’s crew came out of the fire intact, but she was duty-bound to the assignment no matter what.
