“Hey,” Faye said, leaning forward slightly. She was sitting in the crawlspace with her knees up and he toolkit beside her. “Don’t mind me, just… getting accustomed again. Haven’t been in here since a couple weeks ago,” she said quietly.

“Ah,” Walker said setting his own toolkit in the jefferies tube before crawling in himself. Crawling over to where Faye was sitting, he leaned back against the opposite wall.

“Wanna talk about it? I can’t promise that they won’t try to depressurize the tubes on us again, but the chances are way down,” he said with a grin.

Rolling her lips inward, Faye bit down and breathed deeply, quelling the irrational (if understandable) response. Letting it pass, she nodded. “Strange to think that that wasn’t even the most dangerous moment in all of that craziness, and yet it’s weird to think about because I’ve spent so much time in these passage ways. Definitely spent more time in here than I have with people since I was assigned here.”

Turning her head, she rested it against the metal and looked at Walker. “Thank you, for intervening. Outside of my very classified after-action report, no one knows exactly the steps I took to conceal myself and I’m very aware that that could have been the thing that got me killed. There is such a thing as being too clever for your own good.”

“You’re welcome,” said as he adjusted his position in the tube, making himself more comfortable. “I know most of what you do is so far above my pay grade that if you told me, I’d probably be required by some reg to shoot myself for just hearing it. But that doesn’t mean you have to go through all of this yourself. You’ve got friends here you know. And if you get out of these tubes every now and then, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind having you around,” he said with a grin.

“I’ve spent more then my fair share of time in these tubes, and they can do a number on you if you let them. I’ve known people who have let themselves go so far that they start imagining that they are seeing things every time they turn a corner, or that something is chasing them in here. Or trying to outguess the next move an opponent is going to make,” he said smiling over at Faye. “It’s the minds way of trying to cope with the isolation.”

He stopped for a moment to take a breath. “That’s my long way of saying if you let me, I’ve got your back.”
