He had stopped and listened, turning around as she spoke. They were lucky they had uninterrupted for so long. When she finished he felt guilty for having so easily felt the need to walk away when she was fighting the same urge. “I’m glad you stayed and I’m not going anywhere soon, I see how big this is and you’re right it is scary and intimidating.” Luke finally had an answer to her question and oddly smiled, maybe she’d think he was mad but at this stage he was beggening to think himself mad. “You said you didn’t know what a healthy relationship was like.” He motioned between them with his hand, “This is what it’s like, not perfect but with flaws and fears. The difference between that and a bad relationship is that you work though it, you forgive and move on and everytime you do? Your relationship gets stronger and stronger.” He stopped talking to compose himself, and to finish what was seemingly bounding around in his mind.
Was it that simple? Well, not that what he described was simple, but it was straight-forward to a point. Even though there was plenty she couldn’t see ahead of her, the big things were sitting right there in front if her. Still, there were things she hasn’t shared with him yet. Faye looked down at her feet for a moment before lifting her gaze back to his again.
“I didn’t think I’d look at another person after my wife and the fact that it was you despite everything that happened? Its crazy but denying myself those feeling s isn’t helping either. Maybe you just need some help getting over the precipice, I’m changing to. We’d be helping each other. I want to be that help and I’d like you’d to be mine, but I won’t force anything that wasn’t going to happen, this game of push and pull, that’s an unhealthy relationship and I can’t answer whether this is a dressed up version of what you’ve experienced before and I won’t lie to you I don’t know what will or might happen so we take risks, and we work towards the future and screw the people before me that hurt you and made you feel this way.” He shrugged, “Me giving relationship advice, now that’s scary!” A small laugh escaped his throat ad he stood and watched what Fay’s next move would be.

She was standing there, dirt smudged on her bare arms and even her cheeks and forehead. Hell, it was in her hair! Taking slow steps towards him, her brows were slightly knit together as she pondered him.
Frozen in place he just stood watching her approach him cautiously. He would give anything to know what she was thinking. Was she about to run? Kiss him? Slap him? Anything was possible between them and he didn’t had the nerve to decide which, so he remained still like a deer in headlights.
Standing before him, she didn’t care that they were in a public space or that someone might see them. Hell, there were people milling about most of the time, but the density of the plantings made for high sound absorption. Closing the tiny bit of space between them, Faye reached her hand up, fingertips once again pushing along his neck and through to the back of his head as she lifted herself up on her toes slightly and kissed him. But it wasn’t the needful, passionate one from before. Instead, while still deep, it was tender and searching.

The cliché of feeling electricity as her fingers ran up his neck and round the back of his head was not and under statement, her touch sent a dehabilitating cold over his body and he remained still until thier lips touched. It wasn’t like before greedy and hungry but it was slow, meaningful with the same level of intensity as thier previous kisses had. He brpught up his hands resting one on her waist and then traced her cheek before guiding it around the back of her head. He hadn’t fully recovered from thier last kiss and the affect she had on him was overwhelming.
As slowly and as deep the kiss began Luke was the first one to pull away. Not far, he still held her and he could still takste hers lips on his. The warmth from her breath brushing against his cheek made him feel alive. His own breath was laboured and he just starred at her, taking her in. “We can take it slow, we can do it your way we don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to. I’ll still agree to keep his casual if that’s what you want to but know that I’d like to see where this goes” he kissed her again a short testing peck, this couldn’t be real he had thought.

Titling her head back enough so she could look at him, Faye smiled softly. “Slow would be good. I mean, emotionally. Physically I think we already skipped ahead and I actually am quite fine with that,” she said with a playful grin. “But, slow and careful with my emotions is where I need to be. I don’t know if that makes us friends with benefits or something else, but I can’t commit to anything, or anyone specifically. We can see what happens I think. And if it doesn’t go well, we agree to just let it be, go back to colleagues, or friends if it still makes sense?” Her body leaned slightly on his and Faye wrapped her arm around his waist, enjoying the solidness of his form.

“Friends with benefits, I can live with that.” He said wrapping his arms around her and just holding her. “This is the most amount of sense we’ve made since starting this roller coaster and honestly I’m relieved.” He kissed the top of her head, they didn’t need a title or anything official because they weren’t but Luke was content about that, happy even. “We should probably finish up” he didn’t want to leave the hug but the longer they remained in an embrace the chance of being seen was increasing.
