“Ok, just try to relax enough you don’t stop the momentum, but rigid enough to help me pull and push. On the upbeat… ready… GO’” and he let her drop towards the floor as he kept her upper half at a forty-five degree angle. As his wrists passed between his thighs, he yanked back, dragging her lower half back and then using that momentum to half pull / half throw her up in the air, catching her under her arms and landing her.
It was not as smooth a motion as she had hoped, but Faye had half expected to land on her ass, so being back on her feet. But never once was she worried he’d drop her. If anything had been proven true it was that her trust in him was solid and he had given her every reason to believe it would stay that way.
“Nice! Excellent. Next time, as you drop, throw your legs open as wide as you can and I’ll land you on my hips. We get that down, then the really tricky part comes next.”
Cochrane
Faye exhaled loudly, but she wore the expression of someone who had been challenged and was fully prepared to meet it. “Got it.” Stepping with the beat, she grooved as he reset himself and so that they could slip into the motion easily. Somewhere, at some point, Faye had stopped thinking.

The beat came up and they started. The down swing went more smoothly, and then she started moving up as her feet left the ground, Alex said “Legs open!”
Faye kicked out her legs with a tiny laugh hoping this didn’t go horribly wrong.
As she started to fall, he adjusted her so that the inside of her legs slid down his torso like a fireman on a pole. As she landed heavily on the tops of his hips, he yanked her forwards, her chest pressed hard against his and he bent forwards so the top of her head brushed the floor, and then he released her arms let her hang off of him.
While warning would have been nice, the exhilaration of the fast motion zipped through her as she felt perilously close to hitting her head. And yet nothing bad happend.
“Lock your ankles!” he said above the music and he started to slowly spin, being careful to avoid obstacles.
Cochrane
You’ve got to be kidding? she thought as she did as he instructed. The room whirled around her and Faye laughed.

Cochrane smiled and as they spun, he said “Now lean up, wrap your arms around my neck and jump off!”
It took all her strong core muscles to pull herself up and secure a hold around him as Faye pushed up and away from him, bringing her legs together with her knees gently bent to absorb the inevitable shock as they touched the floor.
As her feet landed on the floor, Cochrane put one hand around her waist, grasped her hand with his other and dipped her backwards as the music slowed and came to a stop. He looked down at her, chuckled, and said “We’ll make a swinger out of you yet, Calloway.” and then lifted her up and let her go, still laughing.

Wild laughter ensued as she came to an upright position. “So many ways to take that,” she said, chuckling still.
Face flushed from exertion, Faye moved over to refill her water. “Okay, need a quick break.”
Sipping on the cool water, she glanced at Alex. “So where did you learn to dance?”
~Faye Calloway
Alex moved over and took his glass and then sat on the edge of the Klingon table. “My grandparents on the Admiral’s side. They were professional dancers, performed all over the Quadrant. They were in vids and shows, even performed for Federation Presidents and foreign dignitaries. My sister and I would spend summers with them when were really young… before all the drama… and they taught us both how to dance. But my favorite times was when I would play the music and they would dance.” and he smiled over the rim of his glass as he took a drink.
“I can almost picture it,” she said with a soft smile on her face.
“We, my sister and I, kept practicing so they would know we still cared for them after the blow up. We’d send vids and messages to them, and they’d send back vids of them watching our vids and laughing. We never got to spend summers together again, though. Dad didn’t trust the Admiral enough to let us be gone for that long.” and he looked down at the floor, regret evident on his face.

She didn’t speak for several moments, instead sipping at her water. “That had to have been difficult. Did you still get to have contact with them?” Her mind drifted momentarily to the one living grandparent she knew existed but have never met and wasn’t sure she ever would.

He looked up and half-smiled. “Oh yes, Dad made sure of that. And they knew why we couldn’t go see them, of course. They even came to Vulcan twice to see us. But it wasn’t the same as the lake house. And even their two trips were… problematic. The first time, they had told the Admiral they were coming, so she showed up about an hour after they arrived… completely uninvited, of course. They had planned on staying a month… left after a week, dragging the Admiral with them. The second time they didnt say anything to her at all, and we had a lovely two weeks before she ruined that stay, so that was nice.” and he chuckled ruefully. “After that, Dad, my brother and sister, my grandparents… we all sat down on a subspace comm and talked for hours about how to reconcile what was happening. It was finally decided by my grandmother that they wouldn’t come see us anymore. It just wasn’t worth all the hate and vitriol that came with it. The Admiral always accused them of favoring my Dad… which looking back I think they actually did. My grandmother and the Admiral were very tight, but my grandad never forgave her for what she did… and what it cost him and my grandmother.” and he took another drink, swallowing slowly.
“But they did come to Racheal and I’s graduation from the Academy. Since the Admiral had been banned from the campus, they could come without the headaches. That was amazing. We hadn’t seen them in person in over five years, so we were ecstatic. The fact that they were guests of my mother was even better. V’astur arraigned the whole thing at the last minute to keep the Admiral from finding out and throwing a fit.” He sighed and smiled at Faye. “Hadn’t thought about them in a while… thanks for that, Faye.”
