It wasn’t everyday his department received new crew, hell it wasn’t every day the ship received new crew so today was a good day for today he was getting a fresh faced ensign. He had decided not to meet her as soon as she shipped in, he knew she’d want some time to adjust to her new surroundings and having the boss pounce you was certainly no ideal. Instead he sent her an in Invitation to meet her in the arboretum for an informal chat, it would be her decision to meet him and he made it clear that not showing up wouldn’t affect his opinion of her, he had turned new leaf and was taking a new approach to being chief of Security, if she decided not to come he’d appreciate the time walking around the garden instead.

He was just taking a moment to admire a particularly bright plant when the notification that someone, being Ens Williams was waiting for him at his office. She hadn’t received his message to meet him here, which he expected might have been the case. =^=Ens Williams, I am currently at the Arbertum please report to me here =^= He turned back to the plant while he waited a bit longer.

• Lt Luke Wyatt

=^= Yes sir. I’m on my way sir =^=. As she went to the Arbertum since the Lt. wasn’t at his office she knew that he would’ve actually let her get used to her new surroundings. As soon as she gets there she then decided to knock on the door. She then waited for an answer.

She thought that he was going to be upset with her but with his consideration of her getting to know her surroundings helped a little bit since the captain did pounce on her a little bit about it. She then actually decided to actually ease her emotions down a bit because there was no point of being terrified about anything. Also, she was very grateful that she’s on board and willing to check in with her department head. She was going to see him first thing but, she didn’t know where he was so she went to the office.

Ensign Williams

Luke had to admire her formal way of knocking to come into a public area, it showd she had respect for rank and the self discipline. Walking over to the door to the arboretum they opened revealing the woman he had been waiting for, “Ah Ensign I’m glad you found me, how are you doing? I hope the journey to us didn’t sap you of your enthusiasm?”

• Lt Luke Wyatt

“Hello sir. I’m doing alright sir. I’m having a great time adjusting. And no the journey to the ship didn’t sap me of my enthusiasm sir. I still have that.” She said. She smiles at the Lt and steps inside. “Permission to speak freely sir. It is an honor to be with the ship and the crew. I’m also honored to be under your command. And yes I know how to be polite when I don’t want to walk in to things right away.”

Ensign Williams

“Thats good to know, sometimes more often than not you we new officers and they’re trying to prove a point. Myself included, but for now you can draw the ‘sir’ especially when members of other departments are not around” He swept his right army towards the path, “Lets go for a walk and you can tell me about yourself and why you chose this ship and if you didn’t choose it why Starfleet thought this was where you should be.” He began to lead her down the winding paths, different now from when the party had been organised.

“Of course sorry for all the ‘sir’ stuff I’m someone who respects chain of command. That is why I do the ‘sir’ for. Well anyways Starfleet was the one who wanted me to be here because of my experience with security details and ideas. They have always thought of me a good person to be placed onboard this ship. They uh. Wanted to be here so I can help out with security detail.” She then explained. The ensign told the Lt. that the reason why she was there is to help and create ideas for the Lt.

Ensign Williams

He nodded clearly content with her answer, “And what about you? How do you feel about being posted to the Delta Quadrant? It’s pretty far from home.” The patch guided them slowly around to the left as the passed the ships gardening plots. One which Luke was hoping to get for himself. So far the young ensign was as he expected but he wanted more information from her, get to know her.

• Lt Luke Wyatt

“My honest answer is that I don’t really mind being out here in the delta quadrant. It’s something that I was hoping to do. Being here is something that all Starfleet officers should be grateful about doing and that the fact that we’d be able to get a lot more data on what’s here and what’s not.” As she explained herself to the Lt that she actually wanted to be in the delta quadrant to explore around the quadrant. It’s something that she’s been waiting for to do and is very happy about doing it.

Ensign Williams.

“Thats good Ensign, there’s plenty of data and things to be discovered put here, the Delta quadrant truly is the frontier but that comes with both the good and the bad, sometimes the dangers outweighing the good things. I hope you understand those risk, especially since we will be the ones protecting the ones who can not protect themselves.” Luke explained stopping to admire the vegetable patches.

• Lt Luke Wyatt

“Sir what’s that supposed to mean?”

Ensign Williams

“I’m just saying our job here is important and we need to keep a level head. We have families on board, diplomates and dignitaries from all over the federation” He chuckled, “Dont worry, it was just me trying to make light of the situation at hand but I am sure you knew what it took coming out here which means already you’re better than the ones who didn’t” Luke paused outside the tropical gardens. “My department is a little thin when it comes to Officers and while I can’t officially make you Assistant chief, but I want you to consider yourself as my right-hand woman. You had some good scores coming from your tutors and I think you have a lot to offer. Dont worry about upsetting anyone, I do it all the time despite my best efforts.”

• Lt Luke Wyatt

“Right-hand woman sir? Are you saying if I work hard I’d be your assistant chief? What were my scores if you don’t mind me asking.” She kept asking Lt Wyatt about it. “I’ll do anything that you will ask me to do. I will do a lot of suggestions though. Mind you if I do end up hearing something illogical I’ll let you know.” As she told him that she is the right fit for it. She also then thought why is she talking like a Vulcan.

Ensign Williams.

He chuckled somewhat amused, “I’m saying If you continue the track you’re on you’ll do well here and it means I can actually have some time off” Luke continued to walk again, around towards the pond. “As for your results I’d be breaking several rules if I divulged them to yoy but know you did exceptionally well. Enough to gain my attention, anyway I the main reason for all of this is to get to know one another. Someone once told me I needed to relax and think of this crew as family, this is me trying. So if you have any questions for me then please ask away.”

She smiled back right back at the Lt. and then she was wondering “How is it that I’m exceptional to my scores? Is it because I paid very close attention in class while my professors taught the class or something? Or is it just because I know all of this stuff already? I know these are a lot of questions to absorbe. But you did say ask you questions and ask away.” Alyssa then started to ask more questions. “How will I earn to be assistant Chief? How much do I have to show you that I’m working hard enough? How well do I have to do my job? How hard is it to get there?” She then continued to ask but then noticing that it was a lot of questions that has been asked to the Lt and she doesn’t know if he has all the answers to them all.

Ensign Williams.

He chuckled “I think only time will answer those questions. You’ll be great at advanced questioning whenever I need someone” it was true that her barrage of questions made him feel like he was a suspect in a crime, no hard feelings but it filled him with confidence that his initial instinct was right. She’d go far. “For now I think I have enough to go on. I’ll give you some time to settle in and get to know the ship, dont be a stranger and come see me whenever you need.”

“Yes sir. I will make sure of that sir. And I apologize for all the questions as well.” As she smiled at the Lt. She knew that asking all those questions would make her perfect for the assistant chief of security. But also in the process it will help his job a lot more easier too.

Ensign Williams

He waved away her apology “Don’t worry about it, its good to ask questions keeps me on my toes and makes you a better person.” Luke sighed as they seemed to have done a full circle of the arboretum. “Well my break is almost over and I better get back to the bridge and I am sure you have plenty of other things to be getting on with. It was pleasure speaking with you and getting to know you Ensign.” He held out his hand. “Until next time?”
