Charley stood at a window to watched the Manhattan arrive. Charley had never been used to a easy life. Her back at home was nothing more that a basic wooden frame with blankets but that was better than the camp bed she had been sleeping on. She was also looking forward to having a decent shower. The nearest shower was 2 decks away and was always busy. She really wanted to the wash her long green hair and plate it.

As soon as the ship docked she made her way towards the air lock and quickly found her quarters. She was sharing them with another ensign who wasn’t there when she arrived but had already set herself up with her things in one side of the room. Charley didn’t mind that. From what she could see her new room mate was pretty tidy. everything was placed away, or in its place.

Charley jumps into the shower before platting her hair, she puts on a fresh uniform and heads out to find the COS office with her metal case in hand. It didn’t take long for her to find the right department and office. Once outside she made sure her uniform was tidy before hitting the chime and waited for an answer.

Ensign Charley Winter, Sec.

“Enter!” called the voice within.

The door swooshed open. The security chief’s office was decorated in a strict utilitarian fashion. A desk with an Lcars terminal faced the occupant, who sat in a nice, cushy office style arm chair. Two other chairs faced the opposite of the desk. A replicator was mounted on the bulkhead.

Seated at the desk was a taller than average human. He was going over reports while drinking a large mug of coffee.

“Can I help you?” he asked.

Lt. Logan Drake
CoS

Charley enters the office and walks up to the desk. She placed her case down on the floor before coming to attention. “Sir, I am Ensign Charley Winter. I have been assigned here and wanted to report in with you Sir.” Charley calmly said even though she nervous. She was hoping to make a good impression knowing full well that the rest of her career may rest on this meeting. She didn’t really want to head back through the worm hole again so soon and was looking forward to be able to sleep in a normal bed again.

Ensign Winter. (Sec)

<Bump>

“At ease, Ensign,” Logan said. “Welcome aboard the ship! I’m Lt. Logan Drake. Please, have a seat.”

“So, is this your first assignment?”

Lt. Logan Drake
CSO

Charley takes a seat but doesn’t really relax. Her back remains ridged. He heart was beating fast as she expected the questions on her hair that many officers believed was too bright to be natural. “Thank you Sir.”

She takes a breath to calm herself and collect her thoughts. “Yes Sir. This is my first assignment. Sir.”

Charley, (Sec)

“Well, the Manhattan class is what they call a Heavy Researcher,” Logan explained. “Don’t expect us to ever encounter any real combat. That said? I expect you to always be prepared for combat.”

” Your duty here will be light. It will consist of mainly foot patrols throughout the ship. Helping to train the rest of the crew in fighting techniques. You’ll be assigned to any away team where there’s any possible element of danger.”

Charley gave a small smile as she relaxed a little, she had looked up the ship class and had an idea what her role would be. “I understand and am aware of that sir. It was covered in the training courses, sir.” She looked down at the desk then back at him. “I have not seen combat however on my home planet we did lose people to local predators from time to time, sometimes we would have to defend ourselves from them. Most of the time we was able to scare them away with making noises but late in the winter when food was limited they would become more bold and we sometimes had to use rifles to protect us. There have been a few times where I have seen people taken but that was very rare, Sir.” She looked down again then back at him and gave a smile. “I guess what I am trying to say is I am no stranger to danger and I hope I don’t let you down, sir.”

Ensign Winter, (Sec)

Logan said, “Do you have any specific specialties yet? I’m pretty good at espionage and sabatoge, myself. And not bad on the firing range or with hand to hand combat.”

“I’ve also been a chief engineer on another starship. Long ago.”

CoS

“It does seem that you have a knack for planetary survival,” he added. “At the least, within the environments with which you’re familiar with.”

Charley gave a small smile. ” I guess you could say that sir. I also did pretty well in crime investigation at the academy sir.”

Ensign Winter (sec)

“I only took the basic required criminology courses myself,” Logan admitted. “I was far more interested in the physical aspects.”

“Have you been cross trained in any fields?”

CoS

Charley sat back in her chair a bit puzzled. “Cross trained? Sir?” She asked.

Ensign Winter (sec)

“Some time ago, I was a Chief Engineer aboard a starship,” Logan explained. “I’ve worked with other security officers who were fully qualified field medics.”
