Helm spoke up after the ship shuddered ever so slightly. “Increased power to engines, Captain. It’s like we’re being drawn into the atmosphere.”

Cochrane moved immediately to the center chair. “Yellow alert. Helm, full reverse, break orbit. Science, find out what is pulling us.” He looked up at Dia and said “Do you know what is happening?”

The full reverse was successful and with a gentle lurch the ship pulled visibly away from the planet. However, helm spoke up, “I still feel some pull, Captain, but it’s less.”

Cochrane jabbed a finger at the comms. =/\= Lieutenant, we are a bit busy right now. What’s on your mind? =/\= he responded, his voice terse over the background of alert sirens.

=/\=We’re at the croplands and trying to get better readings of the metal pieces like the one we brought up to the ship. There is a massive one that if it’s a ship, could tell us a lot. But with the radiation we can’t get enough info. We need about twenty or so pattern-enhancers sent down that are calibrated for scientific scan coordination.=/\=

Cochrane’s voice was sharp, but not angry. Whatever was going on had him more than concerned. =/\= Lieutenant, we are currently being pulled out of orbit towards the atmosphere. See if you can get any energy readings from down there to help us figure this out and stop it. =/\=

=^= I’m on it Lieutenant. =^= Walker said as he stepped behind the ops station, relieving the crewman on duty. “Transfer power from the reserves to main engines,” he said as the crewman stepped over to the auxiliary station.

With the time critical, he didn’t he would get in to much trouble from pulling the equipment from the supplies that he had set aside for Crit. They definitely had a bit of everything in there. Setting the transporter he transported the requested pattern-enhancers to Faye’s coordinates. Hopefully whatever she had found would help them figure out what was going on.

A sudden thought occurred to Cochrane and he looked at the helm station. “Helm, bring up the planet and mark the away team’s location. If we were to follow the pull to the planet surface, where would be be in relation to them?”

“Aye, Captain.” He tapped at the console. A white light appeared on the surface. “There is the away team’s location.” Some more work at the panel. “A gravitic constant .. I am plotting the pull and it would have had us in that vicinity sir.” He glanced back looking quite impressed at the deduction.

Maree spoke up quietly. “When Tov was young and before he studied engineering he liked history. He’d show me maps when we visited of very ancient sites. That looks familiar, but I don’t remember what.”

Cochrane looked at Dia and said with more than a hint of irritation in his voice “Dia… what is that place?” and he pointed at the site.

Unfortunately, to add to his irritation .. Dia did not appear to hear Cochrane, or in any event, take note of himi.

A very short while later, her voice came through again. =/\=Darach, once we have three of these enhancers set up, you should be able to get a stronger sensor reading. If you want a specific calibration, let us know now=/\=

Walker looked over at the science station. “You got any requests? Otherwise I would recommend we go as wide on the spectrum as possible.”

Feed from the enhancers were similar to those on the ground - the skeleton of a ship became evident. Some areas were ‘fuzzy’ as they were on the edges of the enhancer’s range, though it became evident that a ship had crashed there. One might have thought a landing, though scans by security or others would indicate that there were far too many ‘pieces’ to have a ship landed even if it had sat there for a very long time. Depth readings on it showed the main structure started at least 20 meters deep.

Energy readings spiked as the sensors were able to enhance what it detected, but the energy was simply read as that. Computers had no similar readings apart from a side by side comparison showing a relation to that of the ‘Metrons’, though the ship database was slim on even what they had as a cross section of that reading.

“I’m getting a single from the enhancers, putting the scan data up on the screen Captain,” Walker said. Putting words into actions, he put the scan data up on the main viewscreen.

“Science get me an answer as to the nature of that energy signature. Counselor, you need to get our guest talking in something other than cryptic threats or we are going to have problems. Minister, I am formally requesting any and all information, historical and otherwise, concerning that specific location.” Cochrane said flatly. He looked at the scan feed for a moment. “Mr. Darach, scan the planet and then the surrounding system for anything like that same signature.”

Maree looked to Hone and then back at the Captain. Some of her old fire returned. “If I knew I’d be telling, Captain. If you could revive Tov I’m sure he could tell you more. History was never in my interest range. All I can remember is Tov telling me of ruins in that area that had been looked at thousands of years ago but not since. I remember him asking me at that time why not now and I said I didn’t know. Maybe he knows more. Maybe Acosta would have an idea.”

“Will do Captain.” Putting actions to his words, Walker expanded the area the sensors were scanning to including what he could of the planet and the surrounding system. Trying to find a similar reading to the energy readings they were getting from the site.

A scan of similar energy came up … well, uncertain. There were some indications in the space around the planet and Manhattan, and a similar kind of indication on the surface of the planet where there were known habitations, but nothing in the surrounding system. Computer results were firming up the type of energy equivalent, though the scale of it was much different. Different as in most of it was just a small fraction of what the computer records had on Metron scans from the past century contact, but for the one area where the away team was - that was significantly higher.

Cochrane looked at Maree and said “Minister, with all due respect, I’m not asking what you remember… I’m asking you to find out. If Tov found the records, then there are records. Call down and ask someone, if you would please be so kind. What we are seeing potentially a threat to both this ship and your people. Proactive action is the rule for the day.” and he gestured to the comms officer’s station and then looked at the officer and said “Make sure the Minister gets ahold of whomever she needs to… and make it happen yesterday.”
