Blue looked at her a long time in silence and then shook his head as he slowly looked at the floor. “Faye…” he said softly. “You really are amazing, you know that? Even now… broken… you are one of the most observant and calculating people I know.” He stepped away from the forcefield and went to the Security station, dragging the single chair from behind the desk to in front of the cell. He took a seat and lifted one leg, crossing it on his opposite knee. Reaching down, he pulled the cuff of his pants leg up to reveal…
A cybernetic leg. It was good model, well made, but definitely artificial.
“While you were away, I was in a shuttle crash. Lost both legs right above the knees when the console smashed into the chair. I was in a coma for three weeks.” and he pulled the leg of his pants back down and repeated the process with the other leg. “I guess they didn’t get the measurements as exact as they said.” and he chuckled softly, but there was a sadness in his eyes. “If you want, I can pull up my medical records and you can review them, if that will help.”
Her brows arched and Faye folded her arms across her chest.
“Does that help you, Faye? Can you see that I am who I am?”
Blue
Did he really expect her to buy that? There was zero chance that the real Blue would have kept that a secret. Not even a remote one. And he was missing one very important detail here. She saw him on the Atlantis when he did her debriefing. He saw her in the immediate aftermath of her escape from the Romulans. But on the inexplicably tiny chance that she was wrong about the situation, she decided to continue on the offensive. “No. But answer a couple questions only Leroy would know and maybe I can believe it.” He would never deny her clarity and trust where it was called for. it was the backbone of their relationship.
“What was the first thing you said to me on the Atlantis? And what drink did we share when you recruited me?”
~Faye Calloway, Prisoner
Blue looked at her and said “Honestly, I don’t really remember exactly what I said when I saw you on the Atlantis. You were in such a state, and I couldn’t help but feel responsible. And the drink was whiskey… which I could use some of right about now.” His eyes never twitched, his expression remained concerned and stoic.
Blue
It wasn’t go enough. Too easy. And yet, this was the path she was carving for them. She snorted. “Me too. And then some.” Faye moved back to the bench and sat down, gazing at this man who wanted her to trust her and whom she couldn’t. It felt deeply wrong but it was what it was. The doubt had been cast and she couldn’t ignore it. And still… she had to see this through. All it required was one small detail. “You said on one our chats while I’ve been here on the Manhattan that I should have pushed to demand more info about my mom’s whereabouts. And if anything is true about the last couple days, I’d say you were right but also wrong. I don’t think I’ve been ready. Even if I thought I could handle the truth, it’s so much more complicated. And then having you here makes me wonder other thing,” she said quietly, thoughtfully, letting herself fall back into the conversational tone she had always had with Blue.
“If you could have made your father’s funeral, would you have? Or is it something you just have to regret?” she asked, casting a somber gaze back to him.
~Faye Calloway, Prisoner
Blue looked at her and his head cocked to the side. “You of all people -” and his jaw went tight. “How the hell could you even ask me that, Faye. Broken or not, I will not let you try and manipulate me.” and he stood up and pointed at her through the field. “Even though we both know that’s your real specialty. Gods above, it must be nice to be so smart that you have psychological excuse for being such a Faelirh ch’susse-thrai sometimes! Pull your head out, Faye! I’m here trying to help you and you are making me out to be the enemy?!”
Blue
Incredulity swept across her face, masking the hurt. She swore prolifically- if only the jefferies tubes could talk- and occasionally she’d toss a rude comment his way, but they never tore each other down, even when they were angry with each other. And even then Strickland had an incredible well of patience. But that wasn’t even the tell she had ben looking for. It was that this man didn’t know the answer and resorted to anger. She snapped her fingers and pointed at him. “And there it is… proof you’re not Leory. Thank you for that. It was nice to have the confirmation. And I’m sure you’re all cocky about your odds here but the real Leroy made a decision, a really hard one too, and he promised me that his only regret would be if he left me hanging. Shall I fill in the rest of the story for you?”
~Faye Calloway, Prisoner
Blue looked at her and shook his head. “I know the story. And I’m not doing this anymore, Faye. I… I just can’t.” and he shook his head and tears welled up in eyes. “I did tell you that my only regret would be leaving you hanging. I didnt then, I won’t now. But I can’t help you… not like this.” and he smiled a melancholy smile and turned and went to the Security console.
Faye traced his movements with her eyes, watching intently. She really didn’t expect him to confess- that would have been pathetically easy- but her words to Cochrane when he had visited her in the brig privately came back to her now. She knew what the truth was, even if she was never able to prove it, she would know and that might just have to be good enough.
“I really hate this, Faye… more than you know. But you need help… serious help.” and he began tapping commands into the console. “I am placing you under arrest for the charges leveled against you, Faye. But I am going to make sure you get the help you need. Instead of prison, you will committed to the psychiatric wing of one of the best prison hospitals in the Federation.” A few more key strokes and he nodded once in satisfaction. He moved over to the forcefield and got as close as he could to it. Slowly, a smile… a wicked, evil smile… spread across his lips. He whispered through the barrier “And with what I know about you, I will make sure there is a lot of isolation… sleep deprivation… hunger…and nothing to stimulate that brain of yours. I think a few months… maybe a year… in a sensory deprivation room will be more than sufficient to do the trick.” and he laughed softly. “Oh, and to answer your question… Leroy is very much alive. Maybe you will get to see him before you get dropped in the dark.” and he stood up straight. His demeanor switched instantly back to ‘Blue’. “I’m so sorry, Faye. I wish I could help you. Know that I am doing this because its what’s best for you.” and tears rolled down his cheeks.
Blue-Not-Blue
It wasn’t a hollow threat. He could make it happen. Or it was a front for whatever would really happen. As she suspected, there wouldn’t even be a court martial or anything official. She would disappear and either die or wish she had. Again. “Well played. I’m super impressed. Truly. But then again I shouldn’t be so surprised I guess. After all, my life has never been sunshine and rainbows.” There. She gave the duress word. Let the pieces fall where they may.
~Faye Calloway, Prisoner
Outside of the brig, Shara’s voice came through loudly. =/\=Cochrane! Wyatt! GO NOW!! Duress word given!=/\=
~Commander Shara Calloway, Starfleet Intelligence
Cochrane glanced at Wyatt and simply nodded. The doors swished open and the phaser Cochrane pulled aimed at ‘Blue’. From Wyatt’s perspective, he would see that the device was not set to stun. “Hold it. Arms up. Don’t move. Don’t speak. Mr. Wyatt, please do the honors, won’t you?” Cochrane’s voice was stern, flat, and boded ill for the man should he not comply.
Cochrane, CO
With his own phaser very much set to stun, something he would talk to the Captain about at a later date Wyatt moved to seize and apprehend Blue, well not blue but that was the only name he had for the man. “Sir, Do not resist. You are under arrest for impersonating a Starfleet officer and well a whole heap of charges which will be read to you in due course” Wyatts main interest was securing the imposter and getting Faye as far away from his as possible. He moved towards him with cuffs at the ready.
