Finally, a response. In that one word, ‘okay’, there were volumes of emotions, promises and memories. The weight of the uncomplicated yet heavy communications between mother and daughter were so substantial, that Zef felt them weighing her own body down. She did not envy the next conversation Shara and Faye would have—especially if it had to be edited for others that might be around them at the time.
=/\=Cmdr, I need to get back to your daughter. What I’m carrying to her could be the difference between fighting for herself and just giving up. The old Faye was feisty, but the prisoner…? She’s walking a razor thin line and trying with everything she has not to give up. I’ll be in contact if I have any more news. Rollo, out=/\=

Left lone in the silence of the lab, Shara allowed herself a few brief minutes of tears before she wiped them away, pushed everything away into a nice little secure space in her mind and turned back to the screen. Her earlier admiration for her daughter’s work had been sincere and she gazed it it once again, letting it make her smile. Then, once again with resolve, she went back to creating the background monitoring program that they were counting on to help Faye save her own life and future.
As the minutes ticked on, they were all bought closer to the inevitable. But that was exactly remained to be seen.

Soon enough but never soon enough for her own liking, Shara was done with the program. Double and triple checking that everything was sound, Calloway sent a very basic text message off to Cochrane, which he would note was coming from Faye’s lab. ||Good to go. Response time should be within seconds. ~S.C. ||

Tracking the situation, Shara knew that Strickland had arrived. Sitting at the workstation, several things were going through her mind as the screen displayed the true feed from the brig. Faye had had another convo with Wyatt which seemed to go well, and it seemed that Cochrane had read the COS in on at least a portion of the situation. A part of her was angered by that fact but she realized the practicalities and she had to nudge those feelings aside for the time being. The man’s callous actions towards someone he was now helping was interesting even if the protective mother side of her wanted to kick his ass. She might be twenty some-odd years his senior, but Faye’s infamous right hook was a family trait.
There were so many threads being interwoven right now that Shara also understood that she was not going to be able to disentangle herself from Faye and the fallout from this mess. And the more things evolved, the more she realized she didn’t want to. If Faye would allow her, she had this idle notion that she might be able to stick around for awhile. Time would tell. First, Faye had to survive this meeting and probably showdown. Stay the course Baby Girl, you’ve got this.

In some ways Shara was glad that she was decks away from Faye currently. The overriding urge to storm in there and demand answers from Strickland, or possibly a man pretending to be him, was rather overwhelming and it was at this point that Shara understood she had lost the last bit of objectivity. She couldn’t be involved. Oh, she wasn’t moving from her spot at Faye’s computers and she was listening in carefully, but she needed to let others make the decisions. She couldn’t trust her own motivations just now.
All she wanted to do was protect Faye, but there were limits to how much she could do that. Besides it seemed like, at least much of the time, Faye had it covered. It made her proud, actually. And yet, her daughter was moving through life with an incredible amount of pain that she had kept safely tucked away and all of this had brought at least some of it out. Would it all unravel now? If so, she knew she was partly to blame, orders or no, but those orders couldn’t absolve her guilt. She had much to answer for and there was much yet for Faye and her to deal with.
As she listened to Faye and Strickland, Shara was beginning to see through Faye’s cracks a little. Of course she understood the special relationship an S.I. agent had with their handlers. It was one of trust and reliance. She had had a handler a few times, though it wasn’t always necessary. For Faye though, with her issues, she needed someone to ground her and by all evidence Strickland had done that for her. As she listened though, her heart was breaking in small tiny ways. She could hear the genuine anguish in Faye’s voice and took all her will power to just remain in her seat and breath through the impulse to jump up and leave the lab.
