A part of her wanted to say yes, but reality also told her it was pointless. For a moment Calloway studied this contrary man, her stormy eyes taking in the seeming inconsistencies. Yes, he had the kind of personality that drove her crazy, but Faye wasn’t naive. She understood people could be more than one thing. She herself was a prime example.

Finally, she shook her head. “No, but thanks. I doubt I’d get much sympathy from that quarter anyway,” she said with a shrug. Jasmine’s response to her still stung, even if she could (and later would if given the chance) tell her she had been right about one thing: she hadn’t thought through any of this.

As always talking to Faye lead Luke tumbling into a pit of questions left unanswered but he was very quickly becoming adept in living in her shadow, (or so to speak) “Well, I guess there’s no further reason to keep you” He said after a moment of silence as he thought about what to say next, deciding that he couldn’t think of anything, anything he could say aloud anyway he pat his legs and stood, “I hope this comes to a swift resolution for us all, I wish you a good day Miss Calloway”

What else was there to say? Either way today wasn’t good. None of it was good right now and the anticipation of Blue’s arrival was already turning her stomach into knots. “It’ll be a day for sure,” she said in parting , resuming her position of sitting cross-legged and facing the wall that she had been in when he and the captain had first arrived this morning.

It was about an hour later that Kiama showed up in front of the brig. She had no idea what was going on; other than the rumours she had heard through the grapevines. Those combined with what she was sensing from Faye and few other members of the crew made her feel anxious and concerned for her friend. She just had to find out what had really happened and do what she could to support her friend. With a warm smile on her dark face that didn’t fully hide her worries, she approached the security guards and asked, “Can I please talk to Lieutenant Calloway? Just for five minutes?”

~Lt. Naim, CSO

One of the Lieutenants at the door looked her up and down a moment as if wondering if she was serious. Thankfully, it only took a moment. “Hold here a moment, Ma’am. I need to check if she can have visitors.” To his credit, he didn’t refer to Faye as ‘the prisoner’.

“Of course,” Kiama replied calmly as she looked the guard straight in the eyes. “Thank you Lieutenant.”

Inside, he made the request. Pretha had been back on duty barely twenty minutes when the request came. She nodded to the Lieutenant and told him to ask her to stand by while she got permission. Once he was gone, she glanced to Faye. “Faye… the CSO is here to see you. Do you want to see her? If so, I’ll need to ask the Captain. But if not, I’ll merely send her away.”

It was actually a good thing, she hoped, that more crew wanted to see Faye. She hoped it was because they were friends who cared for her. The alternative would rankle her to no end and she certainly wouldn’t tolerate it.

While she waited to find out whether or not she would be allowed to see Faye, Kiama did what she could to quench the urge to pace. Instead she focused on her breathing and tried to calm herself down a little. It wouldn’t do to burden Faye with her own worries and anxiety. Not that she would hide her concern either, that wouldn’t be helpful too. But this wasn’t about her, but about her friend. She needed to find out what had happened and show and tell Faye that she’d support her no matter what. And for that she needed to be calm or she’d probably get kicked out of the brig again. If she’d even be allowed inside in the first place.

~Lt. Naim, CSO

Faye’s mouth dropped open slightly. Huh. She supposed she wasn’t surprised exactly, but it certainly wasn’t expected, The small list of people who wouldn’t look at her like she was despicable was apparently growing. But this was terrible timing. She didn’t have long before Blue arrived and Kiama knew that any story Faye told her was a lie. Because as much as she wanted to tell Naim the truth, she couldn’t right now. She had already pushed the bounds of confidentiality too far (out of necessity) by telling Rollo. Later, maybe. If she survived this.

So she looked at Pretha, clearly conflicting and shook her head. “I would love her to come in, but the captain I know would say no and right now I need to keep my head on straight. Tell her it’s not possible, but… thank you?”
