OOC: Moving the sim along…

Idari looked up from his tricorder. “Captain, the island is mostly a normal island. We can get iron and copper in limited but readily available quantities. There are solid fossil fuels that we can also extract. The bedrock seems to be made of the metal that is preventing us from using small-scale subspace devices. I would recommend getting a sample, as my tricorder is unable to readily identify the substance in our current situation.”

IC:

After determining that communicators were useless for subspace communications, they discovered radio transmissions still worked, though had a limited range. The dampening field that caused the subspace interference was strong enough to prevent the comm-badges working, but if they were to get the communications array powered again, then the communications array would be able to overpower and compensate for the interference, at least theoretically. However, given the lack of power requirements, the only thing the crew had were handheld devices which didn’t have sufficient power to overcome the interference challenges with the exception of switching to non-subspace band modes.

Natalie listened to the garbled communication =^=Report what you’ve found.=^= She said as she continued to walk around the ship and decided to try and reach Zen =^=Commander, use non subspace frequencies for communication.=^= SHe hoped that the message got through. They really needed to get the communications array back up and running and then they could work everything else out.

Riker followed the Captain and examined the damage to the ship.

From the exterior, Riker could tell the deflector was extensively damaged. From his view, he could see a couple of shield emitters burnt out and scarring on the hull. Further inspection by walking around the ship would find minor hull breaches on the underside of the ship.

Natalie looked at the damage “Okay gentlemen, it looks like we have a lot of damage to be repaired out here. I need you to focus on communications and the deflector.” She said “Let’s see what we can get from our stores in the cargo bays. We may have to improvise on some things, but we’ll make it work.” Natalie said “Do you guys have any questions. If you need help let me know.”

“No Ma’am, I believe I understand the score here. I will send for some engineering assistance and we will get to work” replied Riker.

OOC: Do we even have person to person communications?

OOC: Hand radios, limited range, likely won’t be able to contact anyone inside the ship. - GM

Riker

Riker looked over at the NE Ensign and said, “Maybe you should go get us some tools and extra bodies for help; this could take some time. Oh, yeah, try and find some coffee too.”

Riker

“Coffee might be difficult, sir, but the tools would be no problem,” replied the NE as he scampered back to the ship for help, “I wonder if the Ferengi has coffee?”

“Thank you anything and anyone you can dig up. Oh, and you might bring that new Ensign that signed on board…poor guy first mission and blam…whatever his name is again” replied MacMoragh.

“Ensign Smythe, sir?” asked the NE.

“Yes I believe that’s the name…now go and get what we need” ordered Riker.

OOC: I thought this might be a good way to bring in our new Engineering Ensign.

Natalie looked around for the CSO and the security officer, leaving the two engineers to work on effecting the repairs, Natalie began looking for the other crew that was on the ground with her so she could get an update before she returned to the interior of the ship. She called out “Thoon, Irdari, Anderson?” She went back to the bow of the ship and stopped looking for the rest of her crew.

A small noise of movement announced Zen’s arrival before he actually made himself known. He blinked in the light as if it offended him slightly. He frowned as he made his way to Natalie. “Captain,” he said as he drew towards her, He surveyed the ship from the outside. “I don’t think we will get our warranty back somehow.” He said stoically.

Natalie glanced at her first officer “Nope. I think that ship sailed the minute we landed hard.” She said “The admiral is going to have a field day with this.” She said giving a reassuring smile “How is the crew inside doing?” She asked “Also, we may have a first contact situation brewing.” She said pointing to the faintly showing smoke from the village “Prewarp by the looks of it. So, options?”

Zen pulled a face. ”still trying to work on the communications issue. Engineering is working on it. We would be best to call the DHs together and brief everyone and get a rundown on the departments.” he looked at the direction she was pointing. ”interesting, well we can’t exactly hide the ship…begs the question, however, how did we get down here if they are prewarp.”

Natalie nodded “Let’s get that meeting set up.” She said and looked at the CSO “Meeting in 5 minutes and we’ll figure out what to do with the settlement.”

NE Running Man hurried out of the ship and looked around for the other senior officers “There is a senior staff meeting in the Captain’s ready room. She asked me to come get all of you.”
