He didn’t buy their time estimate, either, but he wasn’t going to say that in front of everybody. It would be bad for morale, and make him look like a jerk. Best to let the unreasonable timeframes come from somebody with more pips on their collar, like the Captain or XO…

As soon as Ensign Smythe ended his sentence, the emergency lights flickered. A distinctive powering off and on sound could be heard from the remaining fusion generator.

Jon’s reaction to this development was a string of curses.

“Well, anyone else have any ideas for getting the power back?”

Ens. Smith’s

“I would suggest the shuttle craft, but I think those were left behind as they were still being serviced,” said one of the engineers, “All we have left is spare batteries. They could hold us over, but wouldn’t have the power requirements to start the warp core.”

“Damnit, the shuttles were going to be my next idea,” Jon said. “What if we rigged up a couple of electromagnets to generate the containment field we’d need to start up the warp core?”

“Powering the electromagnetic fields needed to maintain anti-matter containment is possible, but beyond our current capacity to do so safely. I’m sorry to say this, sir, but powering up the warp core is too dangerous. We’d risk a warp core breach. Not to mention, we have no idea what the state of the ship is currently,” said one of the engineers.

“Hey! I need some help here! I think I found Lt. MacMoragh!” shouted a crew person.

The engineers rushed over, and removed the falling debris that had been caused by an EPS blow out. They found Lt. MacMoragh with minor cuts and bruises, and his toe was broken from a piece of debris that had landed on his foot. Fortunately, that was the only thing that was broken, rather his entire foot. It could be repaired easily, once a medic came down to fix it.
