As the Asimov departed the Starbase for its shakedown cruise, the camera focuses on Engineering, where the Engineering crew was hard at work, double checking everything.

“Chief! We’ve cleared the Starbase! The Bridge is awaiting for our orders on the systems that need testing,” said the NE

‘Bloody buggering Hell, how did I get roped into this job?’ Jon thought as he attempted to supervise the madhouse that was the Engineering space. Around a dozen men, women and other-gendered beings running around the three levels, making sure power was flowing where it needed to be once the Azzy had been released from the Starbase’s umbilical connections.

‘I’m not qualified to be a Chief Engineer of a starship, even on an acting basis! Especially not one just off the yards!’

“Right,” he responded, wincing as his voice sounded a good octave above his normal speaking tone. “Um, hold on a second, I’m coming down there!” he replied, heading for a ladder to descend to the monitors on Deck 5. He was sure everything was in the green, but another round of diagnostics couldn’t hurt. “How’s the intermix looking in the core?”

“25:1 sir,” answered a Crewperson, “Stable, and ready to go. Warp reactions normal, warp core preliminary tests show all green.”

“Right, good,” Jon said, looking to the monitors to confirm that for himself. “How about the EPS flow? And the fusion reactors for the impulse engines?”

“All normal. Backup systems, and backup-backup systems also reporting normal,” said the crewperson.

“Alright, then, cross your fingers,” Jon said.
