=/\= Spacedock, Two Weeks Later - Brazen-class, USS Asimov, Bridge =/\=
Commander Idari boarded the vessel, which still had the sheen of a ship which had barely been used. It was clearly, however, a vessel which had been rechristened instead of custom manufactured. Rumor was that the Asimov D was originally slated to be the USS Audacious; clearly, that was no longer the case. Compared to the Cowpens, the new USS Asimov was, to put it finely, tiny. Solit’s departmental responsibilities had been downgraded from hundreds to a dozen. All for the sake of keeping up morale among the membership, apparently. But Solit could deal with the challenge. As he stood on the Bridge, it struck him that there were no stations facing away from the view screen. It was a little jarring, but it made a certain amount of sense.
Idari stepped over to the Science console. He knew the functionality wouldn’t be what he was used to, but he hoped that it would still be tolerable. He hoped that, whenever he met other crew members aboard, the close quarters and small crew size would breed comraderie instead of contempt.

The next turbolift to arrive on the bridge whooshed open. Shortly after, a cheery voice called out as its source approached the science station. “Ah, Commander! I see you’ve come to inspect our new station as well!”

The denobulan man in sciences blue extended a hand and smiled widely as he reached Commander Solit. “Lieutenant Cewa, pleasure to meet you! I figured I should familiarize myself with the setup given that I’ll likely be the one manning it during the night shift or when you’re on an away mission, but I am happy to let you do some poking around first,” Veyn said with a chuckle. “I’ve still got plenty of unpacking to do, after all!”

Solit nodded as he took the Lieutenant’s hand. Denobulan enthusiasm was well-known, but Commander Idari had a sudden uneasy feeling. He had suspected that he had been moved to the Asimov as a kind of token non-human. Now, it seemed that the Science department was, intentionally or not, being turned into an advertisement for non-human participation in Starfleet. Well, Solit thought, at least it’s a positive treatment, even if it is cynical.

“Commander Idari Solit - Commander Idari, if you wish to address me professionally,” Solit said before he released the grip. He turned back to the console. “The functions are rather basic - a second year Academy student would be able to operate this within tolerable use, provided that said individual did not get too creative. For me, the learning curve will be to forget the natural movement built in to muscle memory by five years aboard a Concord class.”

He entered a few commands offhand, and found that he could at least get to the sensor scan readouts easily.

“Or perhaps not. Either way, Lieutenant, we are far from departure. Feel free to locate your quarters - and Sickbay, as well. I think I might wait to see if the Commanding Officer is aboard yet.”

“Bajoran naming conventions, intriguing! You have spared me quite the awkward gaff, I must confess Commander.” Veyn’s triangular eyebrows raised. “A Concord-class, you said? Then this must be quite the downsize for you, yes? I’ve served on several science vessels myself, but this is by far the biggest ship I’ve been on. And the newest.”

“Oh I will get out of your hair,” Veyn said without any indication of moving to do any such thing, “I wouldn’t want to interfere with your first impression…” He leaned in slightly with a gleam in his eye. “What have you heard about our esteemed captain? All good things I hope?”

Solit considered the question, and found that he was somewhat unfamiliar with the new CO’s reputation. However, rumors on the Starbase had abounded.

“The most I know is that she would very much like to personally kill an admiral responsible for destroying various Starfleet and Federation-aligned vessls,” Solit finally answered. “Something about avenging the destruction of the previous Asimov - lost with no hands aboard, it would seem. Have you heard anything more?”
