“Um,” Jon said to himself, dropping his bag just inside the door to main engineering as the Captain’s call reverberated through the nearly empty room.

=/\=Yes ma’am!=/\= he replied, trying but failing to keep the nerves out of his voice. He ran over to the master systems display, hoping the problem was something obvious and easy to fix.

Smythe would find that there was no easy way to get the shields back up. They had been brought down by a flag officer’s authorization code and bringing them back up had been locked out.

“But, we don’t have any flag officers on board,” Jon said confusedly to the empty air. “Somebody must be playing games with our computer,” he decided.

Moving to a display monitoring the main computer’s equipment, he tapped in a series of commands designed to force the computer to ignore any input via subspace or any other form of transmission, and only recognize inputs via console or given through a commbadge registered to the Asimov. Hopefully, that would lockout any foreign transmissions meddling with their systems. If it continued, that meant the person manipulating the ship’s systems was onboard and well-connected.

Returning to the master systems display, he tried to trigger a hard reset of the shielding systems.

The computer beeped angrily at Smythe that the master codes for the Asimov had been used to bring the shields down and, unless Smythe had a way to override those, they weren’t going back up.

GM

A whole new set of beeping began now as the process began for the warp core to be ejected.

GM

“What the-” Jon said, hurrying over to investigate the new sounds. “No! No no no, cancel!”
