‘I do believe that Jarret may be trying to escape, Commander Carisi. If he moves, or tries to further evade the Captain, stun him, this is getting us nowhere.” Turning to his panel, he brought up the file the Captain had requested using her code.

This was all Paris needed. Tensions were high and everyone was bunched up. This led to what security folks called the He said. She said paradox. Hearing Vock gave Paris an idea. The CMO said that regrets were an emotional response and since Paris was a woman her entire psychological profile was based on emotional responses. Something needed to wipe that smile off Jarrett’s face and the security chief had found a way to possibly do it. To make it look accidental however, Paris had to work fast.
“Okay break it up,” she said moving across the bridge to where the Captain, CMO and Jarrett were standing. His comment of ‘if you touch me, you will regret it.’ fueled the loyalty streak within her to do whatever was needed to defend her people. On the way over, Paris had primed the taser she wore on her hip right next to her phaser. All she needed was to flick the switch to activate it. The height at which it hung made her hand brush it so that no one would ever see her turn it on. Now that she was placed where she had to be, Paris made sure Jarrett had no physical contact with the captain or Vock. Then it was time to take one for the team as she liked to call it. Paris gritted her teeth knowing it was going to hurt like heck but deployed the taser anyway. The security device on her belt sent a bolt of electricity from her hip toward Jarrett.
This close to Paris’ body the discharge instantly made her leg go numb and elicited a deep rumbling grunt. Since she knew it was coming, Paris had shifted her weight yet it still caused her to bobble a bit. If the electrical arc came into contact with Jarret, it would give him a good jolt probably numbing the entire side of his body instead of just a leg like Paris experienced. The setting wouldn’t kill him, render him unconscious or incapacitate him but it would at least contract his muscles enough to make that smile dip like he had a Bells Palsy for a bit. She had no idea if this would work out the way she expected but it was worth the risk. Her own discomfort in the action was a small price to pay for what Paris called taking one for the team.

Jarrett was thoroughly distracted, interested in seeing whatever this message was that Greer kept rambling on about. Without time for a conscious thought, he dropped into a crumpled heap on the bridge floor. Despite Carisi’s care to select a setting that would not impair the commander, it seemed that something had gone terribly wrong.
Within seconds, a terrified young ensign stood and turned to the group of senior officers near the rear of the bridge.
“Captain Greer, we’re receiving a, um, demand to open communication with Admiral Jefferson.”
“Well, her timing is certainly on the money,” Mason muttered. “Think it is a coincidence or do you think they have something going on here they aren’t telling us? It might be good that this Jarrett has been incapacitated, all he is doing is hindering the investigation. Maybe that is what the Admiral wants?”
GM
Vock immediately knelt down and put his fingers to the man’s neck, searching for a pulse. With his other hand, he retrieved his medical tricorder and began scanning the Commander.

Paris looked at the man on the floor and checked the setting. It was set at the lowest range possible and based on manufacture guidelines set to neither render him unconscious or incapacitate him. The proof was that she was still standing and got hit by the same beam. This man must have had the weakest constitution know to the universe to be taken down on a setting that didn’t even affect a 125 pound woman.
Jarrett’s pulse was weak and irregular. The tricorder scan revealed that he was suffering from ventricular fibrillation; several fast paced twinges were soon followed by several long pauses between them as the electrical system of his heart struggled to regulate itself.

Natalie groaned “Open it.” She said and turned to face Jefferson “Get him off my Bridge.” She said “Do it quickly.” Natalie faced the forward view screen “Admiral we are at the sight of the first attack and looking for details.” She said before the Admiral said anything.

“Dr Vock, accompany Mr Jarrett to Sickbay and take a look at him. Keep us informed Doctor.” Mason turned and took a step so that he was standing just off Greer’s left shoulder facing the view screen.
Paris snapped her fingers and two security officers appeared to help the man off the bridge as the Captain ordered. Paris then moved back to her console as Greer opened the comm line.
Mason looked back once as the turbo lift doors closed on the departing crew, and he looked at Paris with an ever so slight lift to the corner of his mouth.
The admiral completely ignored Greer’s statement. Her face was an amazingly dark red and you didn’t have to be an empath to know she was furious.
“Where is Commander Jarrett?”
GM
Per Starfleet General Order Article 14, Section 31 which allows officers to use of “extraordinary measures” in times of dire emergency, I stunned the man and Greer removed him from the bridge. Can we get you something to drink? Coffee, tea or something with a bit less caffeine,< Paris replied in her head. There were a lot of other security regulations but Article 14 and her sworn duty to protect her captain from any threat real or perceived justified her actions. Paris had no idea what the man was capable of. He was clearly exhibiting conduct unbecoming an officer so that meant he was unpredictable and unpredictability led to security concerns.
Paris let her gaze fix on the screen. Admirals, especially pompous ones, like on the screen now held no respect or authority in Paris’ book. This Admiral would threaten the crew again and probably express righteous indignation. The truth was the Admiral was ineffectual and a coward hiding behind their pips, shouting and acting as if they had an iota of concern for the people the were commanding. If they did, they would impart even the barest details with sincerity and respect. They would not scream and rant like a toddler on the screen every time she contacted the ship. If they were someone to respect, the Admiral would display the calm control of Captain Greer. The fact the Admiral was ten shades of red and seemed barely able to form a word just made the woman look more incompetent to Paris. Security protocols were in place and Paris as security chief had made a choice. The current nature of their assignment and the threatening manner to which Jarrett was exhibiting fit the criteria for Paris to be concerned for her Captain’s safety and act.
