Shara laughed as well. “Actually, I wouldn’t mind a deka tea now, since you’re offering,” she said with a grin.
Sara walked over to the replicator and fetched a deka tea, and an iced coffee. When she turned and brought them back to the table, she walked slow to not spill anything. “Here you go.”
“Thanks,” Shara said, letting the mug warm her hands. She took a sip, pondering.
“Hey, I wonder how long we could actually hide out here before someone hunted us down. Sure, they’ll give us a lunch break, but I can’t see too much past an hour. And I wonder who will get the call first,” she said, highly amused. She had spent so much of life unreachable, and now she was always available. Shara forgot every now and again. and it always surprised her when someone came looking for her. She wondered how long before the surprised faded.

Sara chuckled. “I’m sure before long, one or both of us will be called back to the real world. I don’t know about you, but I definitely needed some time to take a step back. Just watch the stars go by.” If nothing else, lunch with her XO had kind of evened out her mind a little.

“Well, good thing we’ve planned a standing date. It’ll help overall, I should think. Yes, we can touch base about ship stuff, but it is nice to just be Shara and Sara now and again.” She sipped more of her tea, her mind slipping back to the day she first tried it on Tracken and the sullen man who was drinking the hot beverage. It felt like many lifetimes ago.

“Do you ever miss being on solid ground? For something other than an away mission? Home or anywhere with real gravity… maybe next time we get leave.” Sara smiled a faint smile. She’d never admitted before that she ever wanted to be anywhere else. For any reason.

Shara smiled even as her mind drifted to the places she had called home. Tracken was no longer quite the painful memory it had once been, and perhaps that had to do with not only the wake her and Faye had had, but also the new roots she had set down.
Inhaling deeply, her exhale contained as much wistfulness as it did contentment. “My first husband used to call me Stargazer. Being on one place for too long made me antsy and I was always looking for the next place. I can’t say that ever changed, even after we settled on Tracken and had Faye. But now? Maybe it was being lost in the Delta Quadrant, or all the time hiding in plain sight on planets, moons and bases I could never claim as home, but it changed.” Shara chuckled. “Though I’m sure eloping with a man that came with eight hundred acres also helped. But that place is mine now too. It is a palce I know I can always return to when I need respite from this crazy life I’ve chosen. And after all these years there is something lovely and comforting about that.”
