Adrian finished his notes into the Lieutenant’s file then saw to the cleaning up of the biobed station. While he worked he glanced at the CMO,
“Are there any specific duties that you would assigned to me, Doctor?”

“Ah, Doctor,” Yolan replied, No, I do not have any duties for you other than ensuring the crew is taken care of.” After a moment Yolan continued, “Are there any projects or experiments that you are currently or would like to work on?”

Adrian pondered for a moment, “I actually have a project I have been working on. I was born with a congenital heart condition caused by a mutation on one of my genes due to my human and Vulcan parentage. I ended up needing a total heart replacement with a synthetic one. I have been researching the causes of this mutation and if there is a way that when a human and Vulcan procreate to prevent this from happening. Currently I am at the stage of mapping out the individual genomes of my parents and my own and using simulation models to see pairing of the genomes without genetic mutations. I am not considering genetic manipulation, which you know is frowned upon, but am looking at more benign ways to discourage the occurrence of the mutation. That would not preclude the endless possibilities that the genomes can exhibit, allowing for a being of diverse potential which is the purpose of the stricture.” Adrian eyed his CMO hoping he would not frown upon this avenue of investigation. His blue eyes were piercing and showed an unusual, for a Vulcan, fervour of his subject.
