“Yes, perhaps you could clarify something for me,” T’Mor replied,

“If I can, of course,” Calloway said.

“Perhaps it is unimportant but, what is the policy regarding… civilian contact?”

Shara smiled softly. “Normal subspace communication is allowed. I would refrain from giving any details on our missions or our exact location. Guests are less likely to be approved, but we decide that on a case by case basis. The only exception to the outside contact rule would be if our mission requires comm blackouts for a period of time. But all that will be communicated to the crew.” Fortunately, they were unlikely to go through that particular scenario for as long as their last mission had required of them, thankfully.

“That will be acceptable then. My husband on Earth is often concerned if I do not contact him. I will be sure to inform him of that possibility.”

She brushed aside an errant stand of hair from her face,

“I am still unsure exactly why I have been assigned this post. I do not have any experience in intelligence work. I apologize in advance if my lack of experience causes any delays.”

Shara was quiet for a moment while she gathered her thoughts. “Experience with Intelligence is not required. Sometimes, that can even be useful. Those of us who have bene in Intelligence, especially those like myself who have had a long career with them, have a particular perspective. We’re trained a particular way. At the end of the day Intelligence is about information and how we can best use it to keep Starfleet and the Federation safe for all of us. Perhaps it might be useful to think of your assignment here as an experiment. If we operate under the hypothesis that your skills and experiences will add something valuable to the whole, it would then be up to you to test that hypothesis by simply doing your best to make use of those skills and experiences, yes?”
