Yolan was happy to be on another ship, all the new experiences that were yet to be discovered and new people to learn exciting things from. Yolan had many stops to make today as he got acquainted with the ship but his first stop needed to be with the Executive Officer. As he moved thought the corridors, he seemed to get some strange looks from the crew that he passed. He smiled and tried to show them the creatures he used to take care of some medical issues. Yolan believed that some issues needed a special touch that he could provide above a laser scalpel or hypospray.

Yolan had turned around to see something that caught his eye in the corridor when he bumped into someone, dropping one of his cages that popped open. As he turned around he said, “I am very sorry for bumping into you” and moved to pick up his Regulan Blood Worms.

Shara Calloway stumbled to the side and then froze, holding her hands out to the side as the Denobulan crouched to retrieve his… pets.? Instruments? She wasn’t sure quite how she would classify them, but she also wasn’t about to accidentally step on one. “If you wanted to speed up our meeting each other, you could have just asked,” she deadpanned.

Shara was fairly tall for a Human female, and cut a lean figure in her uniform- red division colours and three solid pips narrowing down her identity significantly. She didn’t look her age, but then again she was still older than the other Humans on board. Her nondescript brown hair was sculpted into a soft roll at the back of her head and she gazed at him intently with foggy blue eyes. Eyes that missed very little.

The Denobulan was very careful when picking up his blood worms; these were going to be critical to one of the experiments he planned for. After the last one was safely stowed away in its cage, Yolan stood up, shifting the cages in his arms and looked straight at the Commander

After a second, Yolan said, “I am Lieutenant Yolan, the new Chief Medical Officer.” While his grin beamed ear to ear

She grinned as well, though hers was naturally smaller. “I know,” she said simply, clearly amused. “Shara Calloway, first officer.” She gestured to the worm carrier. “Did you have a destination for these? We can walk and talk before you go see Captain Kiernan.”

~Shara Calloway, XO

Yolan knew she knew who he was, to recap an expression he learned quite quick at the academy, he thought, ‘I stick out like a sore thumb.’ The Denobulan always wondered why people thought that as a sore thumb could be fixed quickly with no pain but who knows

Looking at Shara, Yolan stated, “I am en route to the Medical Labs to deposit my little creatures here.” As he referred to the cages.

Calloway gestured for him to lead the way. “Then by all means, let’s head there.”

As she found her stride, Shara looked over at him. “You’re keeping careful inventory of all live creatures on board, I hope.” Whether she was teasing him or serious was hard to say, but her tone was as casual as her pace, even if her movements spoke to having perfect control over her body.

~Shara Calloway, XO

“Oh, yes,” Yolan replied, “I have misplaced only three in my entire Starfleet career.” Yolan shot his distinctive smile in her direction as he shuffle the cages in his arms.

Yolan, CMO

“That few, huh?” she said with a soft chuckle. Shara would offer to help with the cages, but, one, he seemed to have it, and two, she was not quite a ‘creature’ person. Faye’s empathic service cat was one thing, Yolan’s mystery friends were quite another.

“What do you have them all for?”

~Shara Calloway, XO

“Oh,” Yolan replied, “Some, like the blood worms and leaches secrete mucus that I study in experiments, others like Frieda, my bat, are pets.” After a few more steps, Yolan continued, “None of them are harmful, a handful maybe but not harmful.”

Yolan, CMO

Shara nodded. “Okay. Just making sure we have protocols in place in case of… accidents,” she said with quirked brows.

“The Asimov is not your standard assignment. How do you feel about our unusual mission profile?” she asked.

~Shara Calloway, XO

“I believe everything is a learning experience.” Yolan replied, “I do not see anything as unusual.” Yolan continued through the doorway into Sickbay.

Yolan CMO

Stepping into Sickbay with him, Shara was trying to contextualize the remark. “I agree that every experience is valuable in somewya, but it can be disconcerting for some when our assignments are often so classified. You will never be able to really share what happens with anyone. Having served previous directly in Intelligence ffor twenty years, I will say that it can create some difficulties.”

She looked around, curious if he had made any additions to the space.

~Shara Calloway, XO

“I understand your concern Commander but I can assure you that what needs to stay in my mind will remain there forever.” Yolan replied. He noticed her looking around and said, “Are you looking for anything?” as he continued to his office in the back.

Yolan, CMO

Following him, Shara chuckled. “Mostly just curious how quickly you might have got stuck in and made changes. There’s only so much you cna physcially change about a med bay, but most medical chiefs I’ve met have a particular way they like things set up. I notice the tweaks that others may not.”

~Shara Calloway, XO

“Oh, you are correct.” Yolan replied, “Each Medical Professional likes things, but I like to observe the staff for a couple of weeks before changing anything in the bay. I might like the way it is currently set up.” Yolan placed his cages on the shelves and stretched is arms.

“I do not like changing things that people are accustomed to as it is easier for one to adjust than a group.” Yolan continued. “To quote one of the Vulcan greats, The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.”

Yolan, CMO

Shara smirked. “True, but sometimes it’s good to shake things up now and again. Keeps people adaptable,” she said with a gleam in her eye. “Especially on this ship, complacent is not something we can afford to be, ever. So if you’re minded to do a little shaking, let me and Kiernan know. We’re happy to help the cause when it makes sense.”

~Shara Calloway, XO

Yolan smiled gleefully with the thought of more study into humanoid stress and said, “I might take you up on that offer.” as he continued his thoughts.

Yolan, CMO

As he fell silent, Calloway studied him for a moment, her foggy blue eyes intense. “Any questions about the ship, crew, anything? I’ll answer what I can.”

~Shara Calloway, XO

“Not at the moment Commander but I will definitely ask if something comes up.” Yolan replied. Yolan was eager to get started exploring the ship.

Yolan, CMO

She gave a nod. “Alright then, I’ll you get on with it. Be sure to stop by and see the captain soon though. She likes to know her senior staff.”

With a bow of her head, Calloway stepped away and headed for the exit.

~Shara Calloway, XO

“Yes Commander.” Yolan replied as he watched her leave.
