After dealing with the frustration of looking into his lead cancelled, Kohana quickly returned to working on this mystery.

Having finally tracked down the original disc with the video footage on it, he returned to the ship’s Secure Communication Center and set to work.

The door to the center was locked behind and the disc was inserted into the computer.

“Computer, run a full facial recognition scan on this video. Alert me when you get any matches.”

“With that request, he set to closely watching the video himself, focusing on as many details he could, even those that seemed insignificant. . . . .

The computer was silent for a very long time… odd, considering the straight forward nature of the request. Finally, it said =/\= No matches found. Please expand request parameters. =/\=

He leaned back in the chair with his brow furrowed in frustration. Drumming his fingers on the desk top, he thought, That’s strange that no one was recognized. Let’s try a different angle.

=^=Computer, give me an ID on all the ships around the spaceport. Play the complete video to also include any ships coming to or leaving from the port. Then run a cross check on any ships that don’t make regular stops.=^=

It took a moment of arguing with the computer to get the questioning right since there was no record of the spaceport, any schedule, or any other location specific information anywhere. But finally, when Black Wolf asked for just an identification of any ships shown in the video, there was a pause… then a small chirp… and the computer zoomed the display of the vid onto a single vessel; an Anteres- class freighter. =/\= Vessel identified as private freighter SkunkWorks registered to one Egregf Tar’r. Ship location last recorded as Station Kismet in the Randalar system. =/\=

A quick search showed the system and station in question was a two standard day deviation from their current course.

Finally, the CIO thought, I’m getting somewhere. Hope this pans out.

He bagan rattling off requests of the computer.

The computer brought up the information. The Federation-registered, Tellerite made freighter was fifty years old but showed records of regular maintenance and upgrades. It has gone through several owners, the latest having taken possession about a year after the Dominion War concluded. Interestingly enough, ownership was done via a salvage claim… not a sale or trade. The current owner was one Egregf Tar’r, a Bolian Captain. The SkunkWorks was his first time captaining a vessel.

Previous routes for the past two months showed a average-at-best number of stops around the quadrant.

The CIO pulled up an empty web diagram on the main view screen and began to fill it out with what he had learned so far about this whole incident. It was time consuming, but he knew he needed to organize everything to make sense of it all.

When he was finished, Kohana stepped back and scanned his work . . . .it was then he realized he hadn’t looked into the colony itself.

“Computer, I need all information on the colony that was destroyed in the video. . . .any R & D that was taking place, any significant political figures living on or visiting the colony, geographical significance, significant resources, anything of significance . . . once you have that information, extrapolate and hypothesize who might benefit from the destruction of the colony or what could be gained by its’ annihilation?”
