Relavvik closed his eye as he sat back in the runabout. He had been looking at this PaDD for too long. When he was given his first posting off Earth since ‘it’ happened, he had a level of anxiety that he had not felt in a long time. That rush of adrenalin that he had missed for so many years. He knew he was ready for the posting but it finally pushed him back into that place where he was most comfortable. The only drawback was it heightened his other senses to a level he had not felt since his surgeries.

His fingertip traced and rubbed where his eyepatch met his skin, it had dried out in the atmosphere of the runabout and itched but he knew that, like many things, it was temporary. The Asimov. It was an intelligence ship and he knew his role was going to be security and no longer analysis. This was the biggest change for him. So many years spent within the intel community before transferring to Federation and Starfleet security postings.

A slight shift in the inertial dampeners made him open his eye and look around, he could see the ship and the communication between the runabout and ship was happening. He blinked as he pulled up his orders on the PaDD. Of course he knew of the ship by reputation, who in his line of work hadn’t? It was an honor to have this as his ‘first’ fleet posting. He looked at the roster again and memorized the faces and names of his Security team.

The ship rocked a bit as it landed in the bay and Relavvik stood up. He picked up his bag, it was heavier than most but, he was moving his life and not just a mission this time. He got it comfortably on his shoulder and stepped off. The echo in the bay rang out as maintenance crews were busy securing the runabout and doing their post flight checks brought a small smile to his face. This was now home.

He walked over to a computer screen, lowered his bag to the floor and placed his hand on the screen. “Computer, Lieutenant Relavvik reporting on board for duty as Chief of Security. Please record the change of duty and transfer all Security protocols and systems. Authorization Relavvik, Zero-Eight-Three-One-Hotel-Kelo-Lima.” The computer beeped and information moved across the screen as he lowered his hand. “Acknowledged and transfer complete.” Was the response. He picked his bag back up. “Computer, please inform the Captain and First officer of the transfer.” “Acknowledged.”

He stepped on the turbolift “Deck 3.” He might as well put his bag down in his office before checking in with command staff.

He stepped off the lift once it arrived and walked down a corridor that would become very familiar in the coming years.

Lt. Relavvik
Security Chief

When he reached the section where his office was, a tall and lean figure was leaning against the wall beside the door. Back braced against the wall, her ankles were crossed, as were her arms. Her plain brown hair was up in a loose and soft twist at the back of her head, and her today uniform had red division colours and three solid pips. She watched him approach, foggy blue eyes highly focused and taking in every detail of him, from his appearance to the way he moved. Her expression was intense but curious.

“You made good time, which tells me you studied the ship layout. But then again that hardly surprises me.”

Relavvik paused for a second and raised his eyebrows. “Commander Calloway, you were first on list once I dropped this off.” he gestured toward his shoulder where his bag was, his white hair moving back over his pointed ears. “Won’t you come in?”

“Sure,” she said, as if it weren’t a foregone conclusion. Dropping her arms, she used her strong core to push off the wall on one foot and stepped forward with the one she just uncrossed. Shara followed him into the office.

He stepped in his office and placed his bag down behind his desk. He came back around and held his hand out. “I’m Lt. Relavvik, your new Chief of Security. I recognized you from your ships profile.”

Relavvik - CoS

She took his hand and shook it firmly, but her gaze returned to the intense one from before as she took him in. “Either way, it’s a good guess. Not many red-topped full commanders my age around here.” Though age was one of those tricky things. Shara never quite looked her age. She definitely appeared older than many of her Human compatriots on the ship, but there was something undefinable about her age that made her blend more easily into the background if she wanted to.

Stepping over to a chair in front of the desk, she all but draped herself into it, crossing her legs at the knee and sitting at a slight angle to the left, she leaned her weight on her right arm, which rested on the arm of the chair. If Micah had seen her, he’d probably quip something about offering a drink to complete the look. But contrary to appearance, Shara was highly focused. Ot on alert, just incredibly away. “And if you weren’t our new Chief of Security, I’d have to kill you.” She shrugged. “Sorry.”

~Shara Calloway, XO

Relavvik chuckled lightly as he sat down. “That sounds like a phrase from a past life.” He leaned back slightly and looked at her… Something about the voice seemed familiar but, he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. His grey eye matched her gaze for a moment. “I am looking forward to serving here. This is a very different post than I’m used to.”

Interesting. Either he was lying, or he hadn’t used his access to look her and the others up. It was possible, but did she think it was likely? She wasn’t sure yet. Certainly she could imagine given the transition he’d made that perhaps he wanted to step into a new role without all the standard ‘due dilligence’ their sort were accustomed to. Shara had to admit to herself, that if that was the case, she was rather envious. It was still not something she could do herself. “You’re not the first to find that, nor will you be the last,” she said.

He stood up and walked toward the replicator. “Do you want anything?”

Relavvik - CoS

“Coffee, black. Thanks. I swear at this point I should just take a caffeine supplement every day, but what fun would that be?” The words bought her time, and Shara needed that time more than she realized. Did she say something? There was that tiny flicker of possible association towards her, but there was a time and place for those moments and she didn’t want to intrude where it might cause harm.

“I understand about the caffeine, I find that the tasting and drinking adds something to the experience.” He turned toward the replicator and Shara could see the scar on his neck following his spine. “One black coffee and one aesollh.” The two glasses materialized and he carefully picked them up. Setting the coffee down in from of the Commander and sitting back in his chair as he took a cautious sip.

Shara pulled the mug to her and wrapped both her hands around it for a moment before she lifted it by the handle to her lips. She took a moment to enjoy the warmth that flooded her body. Some days there was no better feeling.

“How did you find adjusting from intelligence to the regular fleet?” It was his first time addressing both his time and hers in intelligence, showing that he did do what research he could before coming to the Asimov.

Relavvik - CoS

She snorted. “Well, given the first mission I took part in here became a deep cover mission for the entire crew, I’d say it was pretty messy. I’m still not fully adjusted, but I dare say I have a better chance making a proper transition now that I am in a command role, rather than having the word Intelligence in my title.” Shara shrugged with one shoulder. “We shall see.”

“What about you? Anticipating any issues?”
