Finding some quiet time, Adrian decided he would pop by the Science Labs to see if Lt jg Jorath would be open to give him a bit of space in the Arboreteum off the Science Labs for him to grow some medicinal plants and herbs. It was a pet project of Adrian’s and he had brought various alien seeds with him to grow and document.

Entering the labs he looked around for Jorath.

“Good afternoon,Lieutenant. I was wondering if I might be able to procure a small area in the arboretum to grow some medicinal plants and herbs? I have brought a variety selection of seeds with me as it’s an area of study that fascinates me.”

Varen smiled warmly, “Well I guess that would depend on what kind of plants and how much space you need. ” he said motioning for the doctor to follow to the arboretum the ship was largly dedicated to the study of space so the arboretum as the need botanicals were rather small though not non-existant.

“Hmm well I believe a plot of 3ft by 3ft would be sufficient. They are mostly herbal and medicinal as I said, so they do not require a great deal of space as they tend to grow up rather then out.” Adrian said as he followed Varen into the Arboretum.

“I see” he said as the walked in to the rather small room, “This space over here should do then, feel free to set up focefields and envrionment within if you need” he said moving to look at a few of the bacteria tests they were doing.

“My thanks, Lieutenant. What are those for?” He asked curiously as he followed Jorath over and looked curiously as the other man studied his tests.

“Oddly it’s a micro gravity experiment to see how micro changes in gravit shift the bacteria’s growth and behavior” he said anoyed that he could not just change the experiment. “Seems it might be a waist though based on some recent gravit experiments at the academy, i might have to start over in a few days but we’ll see”

“Fascinating and that is unfortunate that you will need to do so.” Adrian said as he stood with his hands held behind himself as he listened to the CSO.”What did the Academy do that negates this effort?”

He turned to talk to the man, “Recent experements have adjusted the way micro gravity impacts sales at the submicron level, ” he said starting walk back to the main sciene lab, “I was reviewing the work when you came in, turns out it’s solid so I suspect that I’ll have to adjust and restart. ” he said “It happens, I’ll let it run its course and will have something to compare too I guess.” he said with a little defeat in his voice.

Adrian nodded, not really knowing what to say at that point. “My thanks, Lieutenant. If I may, I could take time now to prepare the plot before I go get the seeds to plant.”

Varen, turned to go take a look at some readouts of the other experiments, “By all means Doctor,” he noted as he sifted through the details.

Adrian nodded then moved back toward the entrance where he had seem some storage areas, opening the doors he found the tools and various soils and mulch that he needed. He happily spent time moving over his supplies to the area and preparing the ground for his seeds.

Looking over at Sorel, Varen smiled moved over. “Do you need some assistance Doctor?” he asked he could move equipment with the best of them.

“If you wish,” Adrian said as he hefted a bag of mulch and put it on the anitgrav sled. He would need a few bags of mulch and compost, then he would need to check the ph on the soil so he could make sure it was conducive to herb/medicinal plant growing. “I am not sure of the ph mix needed for the plants. Do you have any idea what it might be herbs?”

Tealor picked up a bag of mulch and placed in on the cart. “I am afraid I am not a botanist, so ph levels for herbs is not a thing I know? ” he noted as he moved to the other side to secure the load a little better.

“Well , it will require a bit of research then.” Adrian said. “So, Lieutenant, how long have you been on the Asimov and what brought you here?” He asked curiously.

Kula stepped cautiously into the science labs, looking around with a curious gaze. Spotting the science chief and Dr Sorel, she walked over to join them. “Hello, can I be of any help?” To those who knew Mwezi, she was similar, but different. About 6 feet tall, she was significantly shorter than her 8-foot tall fiancée, while still being on the taller scale compared to humans. Mwezi tended to stand with a hunch as a result, while Kula stood straight, with excellent posture. she still seemed to make herself smaller, keeping her arms tucked close to her body. She held her hands in front of herself and gave a shy wave to the two officers.

“Greetings.” Adrian said as he looked up from setting a bag down on the antigrav sled. “Would you know anything about the requirements for soil alkalinity in growing herbs?” He asked curiously.

Kula considered the question. “Not in detail, but it should be simple to ask the computer. Its databanks are full of a wealth of knowledge on many topics.”

Varen smiled as he couninuted to move things around, “Hello” he said to Kula wondering who she was, he had not seen another scientist coming aboard.

Kula turned to Varen then, placing her hand on her chest and dipping her head. “You must be Varen Jorath of Trill, Chief of Science. I am Kula of Galdor. You may be familiar with my partner, Mwezi. He has been on this ship for several years, and myself and our other partner were given permission to join him recently. I am trained in Physics and Astronomy, and Mwezi suggested that I come to you and seek a position as a laboratory assistant, or something similar, to occupy my time while I am aboard. I wish to be useful.”

Not knowing much about the Galdor culture he returned the gesure placing his had on his chest lowering his head as well, “It’s an honor to have you in my lab” he said righting himself. “Lets help Dr Sorel here get his soil situated and then I’ll show you around the labs.” he noted with a warm smile

Adrian nodded, “Thank you, I appreciate the help.” He said as he put the bag he was holding onto the sled.

Kula nodded, grabbing a bag and helping stack them onto the sled. “What specific herbs are you intending to grow? If specific soil alkalinity is required, knowing the identities of the plants may assist in planning the layout of the soil beds.”

Varen sat now in the background helping where needed but he did not want to interupt the conversation. Listened intently though as he new little on plant biology other than the basics.

Kula turned to a small device strapped onto her wrist and began to fiddle with it, a small holographic screen projecting out of it after a moment, displaying a series of details. “Chamomile and Elderberry, neutral PH (5.6-7.5). Hawthorn is a tree, and can handle a wide range of PH. Yarrow prefers acidic PH (4.5-7.0),” she read off the screen, before dismissing it. “How is that for an answer?”

“Excellent! Are you able to send that info to my data pad?” Adrian asked as his eyes lit up with interest. “Since the plants require different ph levels, I believe I will create a box like separation between each variety so I can work with each individual soil. I am sure I can replicate specific box separation sizes.”
