Gadi left the transporter room and headed toward her office, tapping her combadge as she went. =/\=Gadi to Mwezi and Blackwolf. Report to my office as soon as possible for a mission briefing.=/\=Entering her office she took a seat behind the desk. Using an air gapped console, she pulled up the information that the Admiral had sent with them and pulled up the metadata to review while she waited for the two officers to arrive. When they did she opened the door from the control keys, “Come in, gentlemen and have a seat.” She’d offer them coffee, but the Broken Dawn…the Asimov didn’t have replicators in every room and office.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Mwezi stepped into Gadi’s office. He carried a drink-holder with three drinks in it and sat it down on Gadi’s desk. “I was in the process of getting myself a drink when your summons reached me. I assumed a mission briefing might be more… pleasant with caffeine, so I got coffee for yourself and Blackwolf.” He picked up one of the cups and sat down. His drink was tea, not coffee, which was obvious from the smell.
Mwezi sat quietly, waiting for the third member of this gathering to arrive.
Ensign Mwezi
Security USS AsimovBethany grabbed a coffee, “Thank you, Mwezi. I think we’ll need it.” She sipped the coffee for a moment and looked at him. “I’m sorry about the change in your position. You did an outstanding job as XO of this ship. You really came into your own. For the record, I don’t agree with Command’s decision, but I am glad to have you back in Security with us.”
Kohana entered the office and nodded to the other two. He politely accepted Mwezi’s offer of coffee. He set the cup down and took a seat. “I’m assuming we have received orders for our next mission?”
Lieutenant Kohana Black Wolf
Intelligence Officer/Helm USS AsimovGadi nodded to Kohana. “You would be correct, Lt.” Taking a bracing sip of her coffee she tapped a control and the large wall monitor’s flashed and an image of an old Earth Russian Fabergé Egg appeared on the screen. “So this is the pivot point of our next mission. It appears to be an antique Fabrege egg from Earth. Whether or not it’s real or fake has no real bearing, at the moment. What was inside of it, is what we are interested in. Inside was a data chip that showed the distruction of a Federation colony, Shiang-Gui, by a Federation ship during the Dominion War. Shiang-Gui was a settlement on a remote and wholly non-strategic planet that fell into a small but really odd area of space where the Dominion, the Union, and the Maquis had zero presence. The planet had nothing in the way of strategic resources, nothing of importance to anyone involved in the war. Then this happened.”
Gadi tapped on her screen and pulled up the data feed that the Admiral had shared with them. It was a personal recording, apparently made by a young human girl judging from the voice narrating the scene. “This is Rupert.” the voice said as the vid showed a stuffed toy bunny with a top hat. “Rupert is my best friend and makes sure that I eat my vegi… vega… vegibitals every day and brush my teeth, Rupert is super smart and very handsome.” Another stuffed rabbit appeared, dropped next to Rupert with a soft plop. “This is Maximillian. Maximillian is a d!<k.” and an older female voice said “Allison Breithwaite! Where did you learn such language!” with a hint of amusement in her voice. “From Daddy. That’s what he calls Mr. Roberson next door when they are done arguing over the fence.” The woman in the background laughed softly. “Well.. yeah, he does. But that is a grownup word, not a little girl word, okay?” “Okay, Mommy.” and there was a pause. “Where was I? Oh yeah. Maximillian. So-” and her voice was drowned out by a screaming male voice yelling “RUN!!! RUN!!! THEY’RE KILLING EVERYONE!!!!” and then the sound of some kind of energy weapon and screaming… and the vid went dark.
There was nothing for a moment, and then another vid came up. This seemed to be a security feed of some kind. No audio, but it showed a street. Everything looked normal. There were sliders and such moving along, business fronts on either side of the street, and pedestrians walking along with seemingly not a care. Then suddenly there were people running from the left side of the vid to the right side, grabbing and shoving people, trying to get them to move. A shadow fell over the left side of the street and there was a flash… and then nothing, the vid was done.
Another pause, then a vid of a small spaceport. Less than ten ships were landed and in various states of being loaded and unloaded with people working or walking to and from various tasks. A large sign said ‘Shiang-Gui Commercial Spaceport’. This time there was no panic, just a flash… but this time the vid didn’t cut out. In less than a second, the spaceport was a nightmare scene of flame and scorched, melted structures. The few dozen people that just prior had been moving around were smoldering corpses, and the vid slowly distorted as the recording obviously began melting.
Another vid began, but this one wasn’t from the town. It was obviously from a satellite looking outwards. For the first ten or so seconds, it was simply a field of stars. Then, just barely in the frame of the satellites recorder, a bright flash that was easily recognizable to everyone present as a ship dropping out of warp. in the half second it was visible, the Admiral froze the vid and pointed to the ship… an unmarked Star Fleet Sovereign-class.
“The egg was ‘delivered’ to the Federation Ambassador to Seferian VII, an independent world near the wormhole to the Delta Quadrant. A Federation Security agent dressed as a clown dove through the glass window of the Ambassador’s residence and died on the floor with a knife in his back. The egg was in his hand. The local authorities tagged it as evidence and when it was cross-checked in the Federation database it flagged in Fleet Intel. FedSec contacted Intel, and one Intel’s agents went to retrieve it. The day after she delivered the egg to an Intel courier, she was found tortured to death in a waste disposal holding tank on a civilian starship. The courier dropped this off at Intel Headquarters four days ago. They haven’t been seen since. It would only open to Admiral Oleg’s personal credentials.”
“According to this fil a Star Fleet vessel attacked and destroyed an unarmed and wholly defenseless human colony, killing everyone. And then someone went to a great deal of trouble removing every reference to the attack, the people, and the colony itself from history. We are tasked with finding out who and why. Black Wolf, Cmdr Calloway has assigned security and Intel to work together on this,” she glanced at Mwezi as well, “I want the two of you to look into Seferian VII and see if you can find out anything about the Federation Ambassador and why the murdered agent would have chosen their residence to bring the egg to. Look into anything going on, above or below board. Cmdr Calloway is checking with Agent Picklesimer to see what he can find out from Fed Sec’s side of things. In the meantime I’m going to stretch my hacking skills and see if I can glean any information from these files. Including if they are authentic or fabrications.”
“Any questions, gentlemen?”
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Kohana’s face had gone blank while watching the videos. He hated seeing unnecessary death in any instance, but seeing the death of innocent children always hit him harder.
“Yes, Commander, I have a lot, and more coming by the second, but I’m pretty sure no one has the answers to them . . . yet. Maybe there is one you can answer right now. Is there any confirmation that that ship was indeed a Federation Sovereign-class vessel?”
Lieutenant Kohana Black Wolf
Intelligence Officer/Helm USS Asimov
Gadi shook her head, “None. The satellite that picked up the visual of the ship, nor any of the comm stations around the colony picked up a transponder code from the vessel. As you can see, the video is poor quality, and any identifying marks have been removed from the outer hull. I’m hoping I can pull more information from the metadata on the files. Right now, all we have to go on for identification is this image.”
