Reminders of Times and Universes Past (Tag Mwezi)

Posted by Gamemaster Alias Smith N. Jones, Esq. (Gamemaster) in Reminders of Times and Universes Past (Tag Mwezi)
It was late, or maybe early, when the comm terminal in Mwezi’s room chirped. But the chirp was… odd. It wasn’t the standard tone. It was… different… but somehow familiar.

It was the sound the comms on the Chernov made.

A single message waited for him. The sender was wholly unknown, and there was no identifier of any kind attached to the message. In fact, even with his Security knowledge, the message seemed to have just ‘appeared’ out of the ether of space and onto his terminal; not even with the option of responding to it. And the message was short, only two words…

=/\= Hey, Warren… =/\=

It was a rare night, or perhaps morning, and Mwezi was awake at the witching hours, reading a book due to just not being able to sleep. When the chime sounded, his first reaction was an automatic one. He stood and approached the comm terminal, and it wasn’t until he reached it and was about to open the message that he fully realised what he’d heard.

The Laleri man stood silently, his hand outstretched, staring into nothingness for several moments as he processed. A sound that was a whole universe away. Finally, curiosity overtaking him, Mwezi tapped the button that would allow him to see the message that he’d received. When he saw the words, he sat down against the wall, flabbergasted once more. There was only one man in any universe that called him that. Warren. He used to hate that nickname, but now the thought of it…

He swallowed. His stomach felt like it was in his throat, as memories of a cantankerous but well-meaning man rose unbidden to his mind. But Kane was dead, wasn’t he? He’d… he’d fallen into the machine. Oh. Shit. The same machine that had sent Kula… here. To this universe. Kane was alive, and he was here.

It was a long time before Mwezi stood up and began to investigate the message, and by the time the day (and his shift) arrived, he was tired, grumpy, and no more illuminated on the origin of the message than he’d been when he started looking. But he was hopeful. Someone that remembered the ship. The way she shone in the starlight, and the particular rumbles she had made while in warp flight. The crew, Chris and T’Aria, Bridie and Keali… But he swallowed his memories and headed into work… a little extra yawny.
