A devious smile crept across Sara’s face as she saw her request was approved. She gently tapped her combadge =/\=Commander Calloway, report to the Capatain’s ready room as soon as possible.=/\= She was finding it hard to contain her emotions so she stood and put her back to the door, staring out the window into space. She put on her best stoic Captain.-CO
Form her place in Secure Comms, Shara tapped her commbadge. =/\=On my way.=/\= A few minutes later, the chime rang.
“Enter.” Sara said from the other side of the door.
Stepping in, Shara gave Sara a curious look. “What’s up, boss?”
~Shara Calloway, CIO
“Take a seat, Commander.” Sara didn’t turn to look at Shara. “We need to talk.”
Well that boded well. Shara slipped around one of the chairs and sat, crossing a leg over the other knee.
Sara sighed heavily. “Commander, due to the rechristening and retasking of the Asimov, fleet command believed that some changes needed to be made. There have been some shake ups in staffing. Mwezi is no longer my XO. A lot of things are changing. I was ordered to select new personnel. And I have.” She turned. “Commander Calloway as of this moment you have new orders. You are to report to the XO’s office, USS Asimov.” Her face cracked into a smile. “Congratulations, Shara.”

Both brows rose at the same time as she crossed her arms. “You have a really terrible sense of humour, Sara.” Shara was not amused in the least and it was the most ridiculous thing she’d ever heard. And that was in a lifetime full of very ridiculous and outrageous moments.
~Shara Calloway, CIO
Sara quirked an eyebrow. “The joke… may be bad.” She yielded as she sat down behind her desk. “But intelligence tried handing me all these dossiers for people I don’t know, and nobody I know can vouch for them. The joke may be bad, but after my request got approved? Well I’m in a damn fine mood for once.”

There were exactly three people who could surprise Shara Elaine Calloway: her second daughter, her late husband, and her current husband. But here was Sara Kiernan causing Shara to actually drop her jaw. The lack of a joke was all too apparent. “You have to be effin’ kidding me?! What makes you think I’d agree to that?” And what nutcase at Command actually thought this was not only a good idea, but the ideal one.
~Shara Calloway, CIO
“Maybe you can at least understand that I’d rather promote someone I trust than bring in some intelligence staffer I’ve never met before.” Sara offered first, thinking Shara might sympathize with the thought process. “So yes. I submitted a request to Command. After I’d looked at all the files and all the possibilities, I explained to my superiors that I feel you have the requisite experience and already have some connection to the ship and crew. And that I would never doubt for a second your ability or willingness to get the job done. They took a few days to think it over and they agree… and I think you will too. Because you’d rather try something new than stay where you are and watch this ship go to hell.”
-CO
Shara leaned back in her seat, tipping her head back. “True. But I was also very clear with Command that I wasn’t going to be pushed into things I didn’t want to do. I’ve gone above and beyond for years. I don’t owe Starfleet anything.” Dropping her head and eyes back in line to Sara’s, she sighed. “And the only reason I haven’t outright said no is because I like you and I like this ship.” She tapped her fingers on her thigh. “Can I talk to Micah about it? It might seem like a small change, but it is a change, and I’m married. It’s not just about me.”
~Shara Calloway, CIO
“Of course. I respect that you want to make this choice with him.” Sara had another thought. “Why don’t you and Micah come to my private dining room for dinner tonight or tomorrow? We could talk this over and I could meet him outside of being the FedSec agent I keep around.” She smiled slyly at her little jest.
-CO
Shara nodded and even smiled, despite herself. “I think that would be a great idea. Let’s do tonight. I’m sure Micah will have thoughts after he stops laughing.” It really was ridiculous and Shara was still trying to wrap her mind around the whole idea. She had the skills yes, but the demeanour? The drive? Those were entirely different issues and deeply complicated.
She rose from her chair. “Alright. Tonight we hash this out one way or another. I won’t make any promises but know that I am considering it, ill-advised as the whole thing is.”
~Shara Calloway, CIO
Sara smiled. “I’ll see you and Micah tonight then. 19:00 hours.” She had the sneaking suspicion Micah would do some convincing of his own. “I appreciate that you’re giving this due consideration, Shara. I didn’t just pick you because I like you personally. I believe you’re fully qualified for the job.”
-CO
“I still think you’re bat shit crazy, but I’m allowed my opinions.” There was a tiny gleam in Shara’s foggy blue eyes before she turned and left the office.
Shara made her way to hers and Micah’s quarters and slipped in, knocking on his side of the space where he worked.

The door slid open to reveal her husband sitting in his chair in front of a holo-display of nine individuals, a few that Shara would recognize as Federation Council Members and two Admirals in Star Fleet. All of them seemed to be talking at once and Shara could see the metal hand of his slowly crushing the arm of the chair. The noise was cacophonous and Micah’s jaw was twitched as he ground his teeth. He took a deep breath and said “Ladies and gentlemen…” and they kept talking, not hearing him. “Ladies and gentlemen, please…” he said slightly more firmly. Still they continued ignoring him and yelling over one another. “Ladies and gentlemen if I may…” and still they continued. Finally Micah put two fingers in his lips and a shrill, sharp, and LOUD whistle erupted into the small office and he yelled “SHUT. THE. HELL. UP.” and the figures stopped and stared at their screens in shock. Micah didn’t give them time to relax and start up. He said “FedSec shares your concerns as to the breach of confidential messages between Council representatives; but if I may remind the esteemed assembly: You denied our request for security upgrades in the comms three standard months ago because, and I quote, ‘We do not feel the upgrades are warranted at this time and the fact that FedSec would have access to the privileged and confidential communications between Council Representatives, even temporarily, is not acceptable.’ So rather than trust us to do our job and be discreet as we always have been; the entire Federation now knows that you- Representative V’jed- and you -Representative Hollis- have a standing rendezvous at a sex club in San Francisco every week and you- Representative Fween- have a predilection for hard-core Andorian and soft-core Zaldan pornography.” Mouths opened to speak and a metal hand went up and he said “Shut up. I’m not done.” and the mouths closed even as the eyes stayed wide with offense. “Now then… we have already traced the breach and have the suspect in custody. Had we been allowed the upgrade we requested, we would have had the suspect and your secrets would still be secrets. So I recommend the next time my agency asks you for soemthing… you f&<king give it to us. You’ll have our new upgrade request in ten minutes.” and he slammed a finger down on the comms and the screen went blank. He turned around and looked at Shara. “I really hope ya came in here ta tell me the Borg have boarded us and we are about to be assimilated. I could go for a memory wipe right about now.’ and he sighed heavily.
Pikelsimer, FedSec
She had at least kept out of sight and knew he wouldn’t have let her in if she couldn’t have heard any of that. Not that Micah was ever going to be worried about her discretion. Still, she smirked a little. “Well, no Borg, but I might just be able to give you the biggest laugh you’ve had in quite awhile.”
Shara drew closer, hands planted on her hips, and sighed. “There are some changing happening in the ship’s command structure and Sara had an idea, got it approved by Command, and then pitched it to me. Apparently, I’m supposed to be the Asimov’s new first officer.”
~Shara Calloway, CIO
Micah didn’t laugh. He just looked at her got a long time in silence, thinking. Finally he shrugged and said “I think that’s perfect. But I’m not calling you sir.” and he grinned.
Micah
Shara did not smile back. “I don’t think it’s perfect. I think it’s utterly ridiculous, even if it makes some sense in a way. Sara has invited us both to dinner tonight to talk it over.”
~Shara Calloway, CIO
Micah looked at her and chuckled. “Ridiculous maybe… but it is exactly what you wanted. Now whether or not you realize that yet remains ta be seen, but I’ll be willin’ ta bet that that particular realization will dawn on ya in a few.” and he grinned. He stood up and set his hands on her shoulders. “An’ ‘sides… you’ll be damn good at it. ‘Specially on a ship like this one. And I for one am damn proud of ya. And that goes whether ya take the gig or not.”
Micah
Shara gazed deeply into her husband’s eyes, trying to borrow some of his certain. “Well, at least one of us is confident. I just barely have accepted that a return to normal operations means more paperwork. And now I’m supposed to take on more? Ugh!”
She shook her head. “Well, in any case, before I say yes or not, you game for dinner with the Captain at her place? I was thinking before that it would be nice to do so some time anyway.”
