Shara would believe ‘fine’ later when there was evidence of it, but the apology made her shake her head. “Friends look out for each other, last I checked.”

Aasrel could feel both of their discomfort and Bethany’s unhappiness with the whole situation. It made him uncomfortable too. He looked at Bethany, “We’ll… talk later.” Then he looked to Shara, “Thanks again for bringing her. I’m always here if you need anything.”

The gratitude made her uncomfortable, though maybe it was the whole situation and awkwardness around it. But still, Shara gave Izei a nod. “Of course,” she said softly, before realizing she had no idea what came next. She turned to Bethy. “I do ned to stop back at my place and retrieve what I left there, if that’s okay?”

Bethany nodded. “Of course. I’m sure Pikelsimer would miss it if it wasn’t enjoyed,” she smirked. She looked at the doctor. “I’ll see you later then.”

Aasrel nodded. “See you.” He smiled a little, and then turned and went back to work.

Heading back for the ship, Shara was quiet at first but eventually she felt compelled to speak. “The tola isn’t Micah’s. It’s not like his ‘shine,” she said softly. “It was a gift given to me from a people I encountered on one of my undercover assignments. It was a thank you gift. They have this whole ritual that goes with it too, but I didn’t think that would go over very well tonight.”

“I was teasing, Shara. I don’t see you as the type of person who would tolerate someone that obsessive. I mean, shine is a whole other matter though.”

The situation having been partial resolved, Shara had focused her mind so that she was less readable, but not blocked off. She didn’t have mental shields the way a telepath did, but she did know how to control her output to an extent. All Intelligence officers did. Even if Bethy had the neurosuppressant, she didn’t want to add to whatever overwhelm she still might feel.

All in all she felt off-kilter, unsure how to read this entire evening. Unsure whether she had crossed lines, or done the right thing. Missions were on thing, where her skils around people were different, calculated, but off-duty these days she felt a lot like she was swimming upstream. “Shine is a gift as much is it is a curse. We’re going to have to get on starting a new batch before our stash runs out. Though to be honest I’m not sure how much he actually has.”

Bethany laughed, “It is always a curse. It just might be delayed a bit. I snuck some of ot once when I was a teen. Hadn’ttouched it again till that night with you.” The red haired woman shrugged, “We’ll if he’s like my uncles there is stash in places they have forgotten. They never run out of their personal reserves.”

Shara wasn’t going to reveal details that weren’t hers to, so she kept to the best reply she could. “This was a special reserve. Though there might be others.” But the against wasn’t like Micah was at the cabin all that often. As it was, Shara knew it would be hard enough to get back there once a year just to make sure her piano remained tuned.

“Well I’m sure your Micah has his ways of making sure he always has some. I did however promise to bring some back from my Uncles for Micah to try. That should save you both a bit of his own.” Bethany turned down a side passage that brought them back out close to the docking port. “That is assuming, of course, they will let me take some.”
