She didn’t have to go back to sickbay to collect evidence. Aasrel had already pulled that infirmation and sent it on to the transporter rooms. Bethany woukd do it anyway. Whereever the man touched she would go collect.

Bethany stepped into her office and ran back the time index to when Aasrel had her transported to sickbay. She followed the feeds forward tracking his movement until he got to Astrometrics.

Gadi, COS

Aasrel followed her to her office. “In the Astrometrics lab… There. That Bajoran that starts riling everybody up.” He said, watching over her shoulder.

~ Izei, CMO

They watched as the subject of interest argued back and forth with the CMO… then a look of shock and concern crossed his face… then they shoved the CMO out the door. When they switched to the cameras in the passageway…

There was only the CMO. He walked calmly to the turbolift, stepped inside, and arrived at Sickbay a few moments later. On the lift, he was alone. In Sickbay, the CMO went to the surgical section, looked in, set up the transfusion equipment… and then started the transfusion from himself to Gadi.

GM

Bethany swore, loudly and expressively and violently. “Son of a b....” she ground her teeth and quickly saved the file to a seperate data chip and then pulled up the corresponding file to the secondary computer core and watched it. At the same time she pointed to a locker, “Evidence kit, take out a bag and toss your shirt and vest in it. He touched it, we’re going to get DNA off of it.”

Gadi, COS

“That’s not… That isn’t what happened at all!” Aasrel said, watching the tapes with her.

“Uhm, do you have a spare shirt in here?” Aasrel asked shyly. It was only Bethany here now, but this wasn’t the privacy of their quarters. He pulled out a bag and put his vest in, but hesitated to remove his shirt.

~ Izei, CMO

She pointed to another locker, “Spares. Take whatever fits.”

Pulling up the secondary file showed nothing except static for three hours around the time of interest. The computer logs showed a small power surge from the backup power relay that seemed to have corrupted the files. Even the isolinear chips were shorted out.

GM

Her eyes narrowed, she’d have to get engineering to back trace the power surge to see where it came from and how it was caused. BUT. “Come on. We’ve got to go somewhere else.” She grabbed the spare data disk and a kit and headed back towards sickbay and the electronic warfare room. She put in her code and entered and sat down, her fingers flying over the console. “This room has in independent computer core. It’s not connected to the rest of the ship. I set up a hack program to connect to the ship and copy the security files and then disconnect. It’s hacks in a different way and different time each connection and looks like a different computer is doing it.” She pulled up the last dump from the security feeds.

Gadi

Aasrel grabbed a spare shirt from the locker and placed his in the evidence bag, handing it to her. Then, dressed in what was… not exactly his style, and too big, but long sleeved, followed her. “So it should still have the feeds?” He asked. “Even though the backups were corrupted?”

~ Izei, CMO

The files in there looked like static… in their entirity. It appeared to Gasi’s expert eye that when the program connected to retrieve the files, it inadvertently downloaded some kind of virus targeting just the security feeds.

GM

The first thing Bethany did was disable the automatic backup retrieval program she had set. Next was to isolate the corrupted files and then the data stream it came in on. Then she began to dig for the source code of the virus. Once she found that she was able to remove it to an isolated data chip so she could examine it later.

Then it was a matter of writing an anti-virus code to seek out and destroy any lingering remnants of the virus. That wouldn’t take care of any mutations, but it was a start. The virus seemed to be isolated to the back up she made. She hadn’t seen evidence of it on the main computers. Those had been altered and physically distoyed. Whoever it was, was screwing with her. That was okay, she was tenacious and every thing they did left a clue behind for her to use.

=/\=Ridad to Gadi. The shuttle bays are locked down. No shuttles will be let out or in with out in person approval by the CO.=/\=

=/\=Search the shuttles too, every hatch, access point and storage location. Gadi Out.=/\=

When she was sure she had cleaned the core in the warfare room and it was safe and stable she got up to leave. This room was essential to their success. Odd how the virus didn’t damage what was most essential, but only what would stop the mystery man from being identified. That took skill and precision.

“Aasrel, I need you to run another ship wide scan for a donor match for me.”

Gadi, COS

Aasrel found the nearest access panel and ran the same scan as before. “Give it about a minute, maybe less.” Aasrel said as he watched for matches.

~ Izei, CMO

No matches were found.

GM

Bethany cursed again, but her brow went up. “Wait. Did it not pick me up either?” If he was masking the blood type and it missed her too, that meant a program she could search and deactivate, if it had registered her, that meant either he remembered to mask himself from the computer some how OR he had already left the ship.

Gadi, COS

The scan was programmed specifically to find a match to her, so it automatically excluded her from the results. When queried for a match her blood type ship-wide, she was the only result.

GM

Bethany scowled. “Alright, nothing else I can do here. Let’s go back to the Security office. If I can’t track him forward, I’ll track him backwards. I’ll see if I can undo the changes he made to the Security footage as well.”

=/\=Gadi to airlock. Anyone left in the last 24 hours?=/\=

Gadi, COS

=/\= Affirmative. But all are accounted for and have returned to the ship. =/\= came the reply.

GM

=/\=No one in or out unless I come with them.=/\=

Aasrel followed her back to the Security office. “I could run a scan for his biosigns. We have those on file.” It likely wouldn’t find anything, but anything was worth a shot.

~ Izei, CMO

“It’s worth a shot. Transporter rooms are looking for him, but I think he’s too smart to show where he went.”

She pulled up the security feeds though, “However, let’s see where he was.” She started where Aasrel had found him in Astrometrics and then rewound the feeds falling the man through the ship.

Gadi, COS

It was frustrating. Almost as if he knew where the cameras were and avoided them. Bits of outfit here, a barely perceptible turn around a corner there. He was a ghost. For all intents and purposes. The only place they ould actually confirm he had been was the Astrometrics Lab.

GM

She shook her head. Why just the astrometrics lab? Did he know before Aasrel arrived that she was injured? She’d been alone until Aasrel came to check on her.

So he was either watching her, but if that was the case, why the argument if he wanted to save her? Or he slipped up by letting the camera see him. That didn’t track with how careful he had been.

She pulled up the picture of the man from Astrometrics and made a copy. She would go deck by deck and ask if she had to. Then she pulled up a facial recognition program. Even with alterations, bone structure and proportion didn’t change, unless he had complete restructural surgery. She started the program to scan everyone constantly on the ship. Facial rec was a long shot but she wasn’t the type to leave anything unlooked. so she added a gait analysis to that as well.

Then she began to work on the altered video from sickbay. She may not be able to restore the original, but Bethany was tenacious and determined, and one of the best in her field. She would find the proof that showed it had been altered, even if she couldn’t restore the original.
