“You’ve mentioned those perks before. Glad there are still some,” Shara said, her eyes glinting despite the seriousness of her tone. It was the same for her all told and it was as he had told Nadine back at the cabin: they were fast approaching the point where their job were no longer exciting. Shara had opted to ditch the field work for many reasons, but she was still an Intelligence officer and a damned good one. She just wished the transition to a unshadowed life could have been just a tad more straightforward and less like being punched in the gut.

She snuggled in close again as they danced. “You know, this new ship is a lot bigger. Do you think the Captain would mind if I got us a piano here too?” A damn right luxury that would be. Yes, her guitar was one of her most prized possessions but to have a piano at her disposal that didn’t disappear with a program? Priceless. She was sure many wouldn’t understand the compulsion, but she was one of those musicians who bonded with their instruments.

~Shara

Micah laughed. “Dammit, woman. No.” he said firmly, but with a small grin. “We put one in the house, and I will be damned if I am giving up what little space we got so you can have one here, too. Thats what holodecks are for, after all.” and he chuckled. “ ‘Sides, it’s not like I get to put a tool bench in here. So if I can’t have mine, you can’t have yours.”

Micah

Shara put a hand on her hip and half-rolled her eyes. “I wasn’t suggesting here. More like the Lounge. We actually have one now, small as it is. In fact it kind of reminds me of Voyager’s.” She shrugged. “Anyway, it was an idle thought.” She wasn’t going to get into the differences between a real piano and a holographic one with him. Musicians understood that instruments became living objects, with their own characteristics that you got to know over time and making music with them was about learning to listen and be in tune with how the instrument wanted to be played. You could never have that on a holodeck.

The music changed and she hummed to him as they danced. They hadn’t been married a terribly long time and she already felt like she were breaking promises. Sure, singing to him every morning was perhaps a silly thing to promise, but when she had agreed back in Tennessee it had meant something. It wasn’t that she hadn’t wanted to sing to him since he arrived, but it just hadn’t happened and she wasn’t sure why, just that it was something about her she needed to figure out.

~Shara

“Hummin’ don’t count, by the way.” Micah said softly to her. “But… I get it. Ain’t been much to sing about these past couple’a weeks. But we’ll get there, hun. Just you wait. You’ll have somethin’ to sing about soon enough. Promise.” and he kissed her cheek, rhe stubble of his beard brushing her skin.

Micah

Promises. So many promises they were making to each other. Shara was trying to hold on to them for dear life, like the little lifelines they were. She and Micah were not ones to make promises they didn’t truly believe they could keep. They had seen and done too much, and knew better. Life might have other plans that got in the way, but the word promise never slipped from their lips unless they meant it. “Something about making cheese?” she said, her smile tugging at that stubble. FOr a moment she let herself get lost in the feel and scent of him, trying to imprint it even more so that it might carry her through darker moments.

~Shara

Micah grinned and said “Sure… cheese… whatever you say.” softly into her ear. “But how about now we continue dancing , and then maybe move this soiree into the bedroom and you can to drain the power supply in this here robot arm?” and he chuckled wickedly.

Micah

“Really? That sounds like a challenge to me, and you do know how much I love a challenge,” she all but purred. “How long would that take anyway? Just on the off chance I’m up for such a task.” She pressed her body against him more as they danced, letting the rhythm of their steps flow together. “Because as I mentioned once, I did have to play a dancer on Risa that one time, and I did find the stamina required invigorating.”

~Shara

Micah grinned and kissed her lips softly. “Well, I sprung for the luxury package. So it may take more than a while.” and he grinned and took a step back. “Risian dancer, huh? So show me some moves. Maybe I’ll toss a few slips of Latium your way…”

Micah

She spun in a slow circle away from him, rolling her hips as she did. Shara lifted her arms in a languid gesture out and up above her head, crossing and flexing her wrists before moving her arms back down in an arc to her sides. She stepped backwards towards the bedroom, still rolling and swaying her hips. Eyes alight, she gazed at him and beckoned with a finger. “Hunny, I’m worth more than a few slips. I’m also far too covered up for this kind of dancing.”

Turning, she danced her way into the bedroom.

~Shara

Micah grinned and watched as she moved, his eyes fixed on her like a starving man at an all-you-can-eat buffet. As she crossed the threshold to the bedroom, he said “I agree… on both counts.” and he slowly followed her inside.

A few hours later…

As Micah lay on his back staring at the ceiling, he smiled. “Huh… I gotta say, hun. I ain’t never seen no Risian dancing girl do that.” and he laughed.
