Aasrel laughed. “We don’t want that,” he said. Then he moved towards the bathroom, pulling her with him. “Speaking of our habit, it’s time now if we want to have plenty of time.”~ Aasrel
Bethany liked the way he pulled her along with him, gentle and insistent. She liked that he flirted outrageously with her too, but in a subtle quiet way that left her wanting to see more of it. “There is never going to be enough time, Rel.” It was true, no matter how much time they had, there would never be enough.
Bethany
Aasrel turned to give her a look. Then they disappeared into the bathroom.
Over half an hour later, Aasrel came out of the bathroom in a towel. “Maybe I should wear something outrageous,” he said, looking at Bethany mischievously.
~ Aasrel
Bethany, also wrapped in a towel, paused and gave him a long once over and grinned. “Well I would say that you could be completely outrageous and wear nothing at all, but what exactly did you have in mind?”
Bethany
“We may not technically be Starfleet, but I don’t think the crew would appreciate that,” Aasrel laughed. He shrugged then, “I dunno. Just not a plain white polo. We’re supposed to be pirates and that’s the best I could come up with.”
~ Aasrel
Bethany’s eyes travelled over him again, “Are you asking for my help?” Because, oh did she have ideas on how to make him look roguish.
Bethany
Aasrel grinned at her. “I am absolutely asking for your help.” He was sure she had ideas, that was the point. She’d make him look ridiculous but piratey. And probably hot.
~ Aasrel
Bethany grinned. “Hmmm…okay so something a little less polished, but won’t get in the way while you work, and functional,” she paced around him as she mused. She came to a stop in front of him, “I have a couple of ideas. I can have them ready by lunch. That is if you think you can stand seeing me again so soon.”
Bethany
Aasrel smiled, “Stand to see you? I will be looking forward to it all morning.” He gave a dramatic sigh, “It’s time to go on shift. If I wait any longer, I’ll be tempted to just not go.”
~ Aasrel
“Oh… skipping duty… sounds like a great idea.” Bethany yawned as she shrugged into her jacket. “Time for coffee, or a brisk walk.” She kissed him. “Mmmm four hours can’t pass quick enough.” She slipped out his door. One of her Lts was passing, blinked, grinned, and then hurried off.
Bethany
Aasrel was next out the door and off to Sickbay. He spent part of the morning with patients and any downtime he had, he was in the medical lab. When lunch came around, he was still in the medical lab.
~ Aasrel
Bethany had been busy. She had spent the morning going over boarding plans and schematics of the Argon Wind with her department. Then she had spent time with her Tactical officers going over the battle tactics and history of Captain Rebecca Ann Forther. She was known for how good she was. No one wanted to be on the wrong side of her.
At lunch she went by sickbay and was directed to the lab. “Dr. Izei?”
Bethany
Aasrel looked up. “Yes?” Then he saw it was Bethany and smiled. “Bethany.” He closed up what he was working on, then joined her at the door. “Those four hours were too long.” He joked, grinning at her.
~ Aasrel
“Far, far too long. Come on.” Bethany led the way down the corridor to her quarters. There was a tray with whatever the galley was serving fresh that day and fresh coffee brewing. She made a beeline directly for it. Decaf, but she wanted coffee. She pointed to the couch. “There’s two different ones there. We can always replicate you more. The second shirt I’m sure you won’t like, but it would give you a different look.”
There was a pair of boots, pretty standard to Star Fleet issued, but scuffed and worn rather than polished. They were incredibly comfortable. There were two pairs of pants. The first was a pair of stone washed black jeans. The other was a dark brown/grey made of a heavier canvas with lots of pockets and loops in it. The first shirt was a midnight blue. It had a madarin collar and open neck like the polos he liked to wear. The sleeves were loose and billowy, not too much though, until an inch below the elbow. The cuff started there and was almost skin tight. Keeping the shirt firmly out of his way while he worked. The second shirt was commonly called a muscle shirt. It was forest green and had a round neck and was of course sleeveless. Bethany didn’t think he would like that one.
There were also two jackets of a sort. The first was more of a working vest. Sleeveless, pockets and trimmed to fit. It looked more like a modified lab coat than anything. Like he needed it, but was annoyed with the formality. The second was a long sleeved leather and suede short jacket in blacks and browns. There was also a weapons belt. Upon closer inspection the holsters and loops were made to hold all the equipment in a standard Star Fleet issue medical kit. It wouldn’t do to carry around a branded case. The pockets on the cargo pants seemed to serve the same purpose. The final piece was a pair of biker gloves. They were fingerless, except the pinky, to hide the implant on that side of his hand. They were open on the palm and the back of his hand. It served to make him seem a bit rougher, but still the dexterity a doctor needed, while covering up what he didn’t want to think about.
Bethany
Aasrel tried on the cargo pants, the blue long sleeved shirt, and the leather and suede short jacket. Then the biker gloves and the comfy boots. Then fitted the weapons belt on, though there were no medical things in it just yet. When he was finished he stepped out of the bathroom like he was a model. “What do you think? I want to try that weird lab coat too but I wanted to try this first.”
~ Aasrel
Bethany’s coffee mug was set back down on the table before she took the sip she was obviously about to take. She stood up from the couch and nodded slowly. D@mn she was good. He looked…wow… this wasn’t going to do. The nurses were going to flirt with him more. She didn’t say anything for a long minute. “Yep, you look sufficiently roguish now. Wow…”
Bethany
Aasrel adjusted the belt slightly and grinned. “You really like, huh?” He said. Then he frowned and twisted a bit like he was trying to see himself, “Can you see anything through this?” By anything, he meant implants.
“Yeah, I do like.” Bethany shook her head, “Nope, can’t see anything.”
He pulled off the suede leather jacket and instead put on the other one that resembled a lab coat. “What about this? Better? Worse?”
~ Aasrel
“It looks okay.” It seemed to fit him well. “I will say that those loose sleeves under the tighter lab coat might get uncomfortable. Also the long shirt and lab coat might get too hot. They are thicker materials than our uniforms. It’s why I gave you a sleeveless shirt also. So you’d still be covered but comfortable. If there is anything you don’t like, we can make adjustments. Color, fit, material, and the like. I tried to guess at where you might want your medical equipment at hand, but we can move the holsters around to what works best for you.”
Bethany
Aasrel pulled the lab coat off and set it down nicely. “I’ll try it like this first and then we’ll adjust later.” He smiled, “Thanks, Bethany. It looks great. I like them. Especially the biker gloves. Very roguish.” He checked the time, “Do we want to eat before we have to go back to work?”
~ Aasrel
“I’m glad you like it. It’s a very good look on you.” It really was. She liked seeing him outside of the uniform as it were. To his question she nodded as she walked up and put her arms over his shoulders. “I really should. See, I have this really stern doctor who is always on me about my health. If I skip a meal, he might come hunt me down.” Then she grinned wickedly, “Hmmm… on second thought, that might be fun.”
Bethany
Aasrel grinned and laughed. “Don’t threaten me with a good time,” he said in his best ‘ruffian’ voice. He hugged her. “Okay, let’s go eat before we run out of time.”
~ Aasrel
She leaned in and whispered in his ear, “Oh honey, that wasn’t a threat, that was an offer.” And with a laugh she stepped quickly into the corridor.
Bethany
Aasrel grinned and stepped out into the corridor after her - still wearing the outfit she’d picked out. It was comfortable and easy to move in. Then he looked at her like Are you really going to make me chase you?
~ Aasrel
Bethany winked at him and then tucked her hand onto his arm. “Hmmm maybe later.” They were getting all kinds of looks. Well, actually, Aasrel was getting the looks and people (read other women) liked what they saw. Bethany was a little amused at herself for feeling jealous. “We will need lots of time for that. Oh, don’t forget. Holosuite 2 right after your shift.”
Bethany
Aasrel liked the looks, but the only one he cared about was Bethany’s. He smiled at her and nodded. “Holosuite 2. I won’t forget,” he said as he led her down to the galley for lunch.
~ Aasrel
The meal was calm and pleasant. Bethany liked talking to Aasrel. It wasn’t difficult to find things to talk about, and if there was a lull it didn’t feel awkward. The break was far too short, or maybe she was just that tired. The rest of the day seemed tedious. There was only so much prep work that could be done before people got burnt out, so she gave everyone time off from it. Just regular duty rotations.
At the end if her shift she went to the holosuite to wait.
Bethany
The break went by too fast. There wasn’t time for Aasrel to work in the medical lab during the afternoon, he was too busy. As soon as he could go at the end of his shift, he headed to holodeck 2 and smiled at Bethany. “How was the rest of your shift?”
~ Aasrel
Bethany shook her head, “I feel like I’m spinnin’ mah wheels in a mud whole with tires with no tread.” Her voice had taken on a heavy twang. Aasrel wouldn’t know it yet, but it was a sure sign of mental weariness. “How about you?” She tapped the controls on the arch, loading the preset program she had designed.
Bethany
Her voice had taken on a heavy twang, like an accent he didn’t quite recognize. It was kind of cute. He shrugged. “It was a long day. I’m glad it’s over.” Especially because that meant being with her. He waited for her to key in the program, standing behind her while she worked.
~ Aasrel
Hand rested on his upper arm. “Well let’s get started then. The sooner we start the sooner the day is officially over.”
“Computer run program.” There was a soft trilled chime and the scene shimmered to life. They were standing at the airlock. Before them was the station and the scene that Aasrel had run out into. Complete with Bethany’s prone form. “Alright, tell me what you saw and what you did.”
Bethany
Aasrel inhaled sharply. “I came through the airlock.” He moved to his position. “I saw you, there.” He traced his footsteps, breaking into a run, towards the holographic prone form of Bethany. “Computer, make a med kit for me.” He said, and a holographic medical kit appeared. He set it down next to him and began to open it. “This is when you pushed me out of the way.”
~ Aasrel
Bethany followed behind him. “Okay. Come back here with me.” She took his hand and led him back to the airlock. “I want you to watch the people around you as you move toward. Computer run playback time index 23990802 1837.” A holographic image of Aasrel appeared and began to run towards Bethany’s prone form. Around him was utter chaos. Vaec was on a rampage and had the people Aasrel not shoved out of the way bumped into Vaec, the Cardassian would have been on him before he ever got to Bethany. The Naussican woman nearly intercepted him, but the security team that had been at the airlock managed to stop her. Aasrel had been completely oblivious. “Computer pause playback. Okay now tell me what you saw.”
Bethany
Aasrel watched as the security team and bystanders prevented the Nausican and the Cardassian from getting to him before he reached Bethany. By the time he kneeled by Bethany, Vaec was nearly to him through the crowd. If you had moved half a second later… He would have caught you between the ribs with that knife. Bethany had been right. He had been lucky.
“That Nausican sidekick. She’d have gotten me if Security hadn’t stopped her. That Cardassian was slowed by the crowd, but if he hadn’t been, he’d also have caught me before I reached you.” He’d been so oblivious. Bethany could have been hurt so much worse than she had been trying to keep him safe. “Sorry.”
~ Aasrel
Bethany nodded. “Don’t be sorry. You aren’t trained to think this way. When you assess a situation you are doing medical triage. Security did their job. Keep you safe. But in our current situation, d@mn even in the best of situations, security may not always be there. You were trying to get to me. I can’t be angry over that.” She waved at the scene. “I’m not going to teach you how to fight. That takes years of practice. I’m going to teach you how to assess a situation. Computer reset simulation and remove character of Dr. Izei.” The computer trilled and reset. “Okay, now, take in the whole situation and determine the safest route to where you want to go. Keep in mind safest does not always mean without risk. Just the least amount of risk.”
Bethany
Aasrel scanned the holographic scene in front of them with his eyes. “Around that way, to avoid them.” He guessed, pointing around away from Vaec and the Naussican.
~ Aasrel
Bethany nodded, “Good. That way also allows you to avoid the crowd that is watching and those trying to get away. Okay come on.” She walked over to where her holographic form was. “So you were kneeling here.” She took the spot that he had been in. “What’s wrong with this position?”
Bethany
It looked ridiculous when he stopped to think about it like this. “I wasn’t watching. I didn’t even know he was coming at me with a knife because my back was turned.”
~ Aasrel
Bethany nodded but didn’t comment. “Your priority is your patient, so you both have to be safe. You can’t just move someone until you know it is safe. So you need to be in a position to watch while you work.” She motioned for him to take a place that would give him that advantage.
Aasrel positioned himself on Bethany’s other side, where he could see Vaec and the Nausican woman.
Then she slid the med kit over. “Okay so what in your kit can you use as a weapon?”
Bethany
He opened the kit and rifled through it. “Hypo full of a sedative?”
~ Aasrel
“Good. I know it is a bit of a gamble without a scan of how much to give, but worth doing. If you have a trauma kit you could even use the laser scalpel if needed. But never pull a weapon unless you intend to use it. If you are just going to wave it about and try and threaten, 98% of the time, the person will take it and use it on you.” Bethany stood, “Okay let’s try another one.”
“Unless you’re dealing with someone exceptionally small, I’d simply use enough to knock out a 300 pound Klingon.” Aasrel commented. “That won’t kill a regular person, though it is too much for a regular dose for a regular person.”
“Good. I would suggest you keep a hypo preloaded with that. Separate from what else you need.” She reached over and tugged at a long narrow pocket on the belt. “That is what this is for. I pit two in. One for a weapon hypo and one for Medical use.”
“Computer run simulation Gadi Theta.” The scene shimmered and was replaced by a scene on the promenade of the station. “Your target is a injured ops officer on the far side of the throughway.” The scene started and basically it was a bar brawl that poured out of a restaurant, but the combatants were using weapons and bystanders were getting caught in the crossfire.
Bethany
Aasrel and Bethany were standing at the doorway as if they’d just entered. Aasrel spent a few minutes studying the scene. “Around the edge of the room?” He guessed, frowning. The bar brawl was a mess, weapons were everywhere, and the bystanders were in chaos. He didn’t see a safe way through.
~ Aasrel
“That would keep you out of the bulk of the fighting. If you can get to your patient with out the crowds pushing you back out of the way. If you are good at dodging it might work and assuming you miss getting caught by the random fire of their guns.” She pointed toward the other side of the room. “Sometimes the most direct route isn’t the best. Think outside the room. If you go around the promenade you can come in from that other door, just a few feet from your target. You avoid the fight and weapons fire and don’t have to fight with the crowd trying to escape.”
Bethany
Aasrel gave her a bit of a look. “Okay… I don’t usually have the schematics of every building memorized. How would I know that’s going to lead to that door?”
~ Aasrel
