From Laila’s perspective, Mwezi’s voice resonated with authority as he began to guide her through the first lesson with the Fangs of Il’los. The rhythmic movements seemed to flow effortlessly from his hands, each motion deliberate and precise. As he moved through the beginner forms, his words seemed to carry a deeper meaning, emphasizing the connection between the blades and one’s own being.

Eulailia watched attentively, her eyes fixed on Mwezi’s every move. The anticipation in her expression revealed a burning enthusiasm, mirroring the eagerness of a student eager to absorb the wisdom of their master. When he ordered her to follow his movements, she felt a little intimidated but she did as she absorbed every detail, determined to replicate the master’s technique. Her body mirrored Mwezi’s posture, attempting to capture the essence of each movement. “I am am sure I am going to look very silly trying to mimic your moves, sir. Let me know if I am doing this right.”

Dacascos, COO

Mwezi noted the ways Dacascos moved her body through the cycle, saying nothing until they had completed two full runs of it. “You certainly are in need of improvement, but that can be said of all beginners.” For a few moments, the Laleri stood still, seeming to listen to the air itself, staring at a wall panel. Finally he shifted. “Would you find it discomforting if I were to touch your arms and legs to correct your posture? I can find a way to help you adjust your position without physical contact, but that method would be simplest.”

There was a flat simplicity to the question. Nothing more than what he said, nothing less. Meanwhile, his thoughts were traveling back over twenty years to the days of his youth, to the way he had learned to use the blades and the methods his instructors had used. There was a brief thought of Kula, who had struggled so greatly with the lessons on the blade while simultaneously thriving so greatly in her academic studies. A small twinge of emotional pain crossed his face for a moment before he pushed it away. No use thinking about his love when she was so unreachable as a result of this mission.

Mwezi, XO

Eulailia respected his expertise and trusted his guidance. When he mentioned the possibility of physical contact to correct her posture, immediately, understanding the significance of physical adjustments in perfecting her technique, Eulailia replied with sincerity as she stopped her movements, “I appreciate your offer, sir. If it helps me improve, I have no discomfort with you touching my arms and legs to correct my posture.”

Dacascos, COO

Mwezi nodded slightly, the echo of sadness still on his face for a few moments before he fully went back to his neutral expression. He stepped around so he was beside her, then instructed Dacascos to begin the movements again, instructing her to pause at each extent. At that point, he would gently touch her elbow, hand, knee, or foot with a single finger and gently guide her into the correct position.

After several rounds of this, he stepped back and allowed her to go through the motions on her own, nodding quietly in approval. “I have to go, as I previously mentioned. You are doing impressively well for someone who didn’t know the Fangs existed until an hour ago.” He gathered up his Fangs and placed them back in their protective case along with the wooden copies, then locked the case in the weapons chest.

Mwezi, XO

OOC: Mind if I get in on this?

-Kieron-

I’m cool with it!
- Riley

OOC: Fine with me too :)

IC: As Mwezi locked the case in the weapons chest, Eulailia felt a sense of accomplishment and gratitude towards him. She admired his dedication to his craft and the attention he had given her during their session. Adjusting her posture had made a noticeable difference in her movements, and she could feel herself becoming more aligned and balanced.

“Thank you, sir,” Eulailia said, her voice filled with sincerity. “I already can tell the difference. I never imagined that I would find myself immersed in this world, but I am eager to learn more, to grow as a practitioner of the Fangs. Your teachings have opened my eyes to a whole new realm of possibilities. I have never felt this empowered while learning any form of combat.” She felt a renewed sense of purpose and determination. Laila told herself she would practice diligently, striving to unlock her potential and honor the legacy of the Fangs.

Dacascos, COO

Mwezi nodded curtly. “The fangs have been a part of my culture’s practices for over two-thousand years, but I’m still glad to be able to share it with others. The people of Galdor have lost their intentionality in learning this art,” he reflected. The world of this universe was so different from the time and place he had known before the incident that had brought him here. Perhaps it was just the difference in time. A century could make a big difference on culture. He finished locking the case, then handed Dacascos a smaller container which he’d replicated along with the wooden fangs. “For you. They are dangerous, even if they are made of wood. It is best to store them in a locked container for which only you know the combination.”

Mwezi, XO

Paddy found himself wandering the corridors in search of a way of killing a few hours. As the ship’s counselor, McMillan often struggled to make himself busy on a starship such as this one. Sure, he had experience of engineering on his father’s farm, but working on farming machinery was a whole different ballgame compared to the inner workings of a Federation starship…

Still, he knew it wouldn’t hurt to get a little bit more involved with the different departments; so when he happened to stumble across Commanders Mwezi and Dacascos on one of the Asimov’s training spaces, he couldn’t help but let curiosity take over, “I hope I’m not interrupting anything Commanders, but do you mind if I ask what you’re up to?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

OOC; fixing split
IC:

Mwezi turned as another being entered the room, letting Dacascos take the container for her practice blades. “I was just wrapping up a little lesson in traditional Laleri weaponry for Lt. Dacascos,” he gestured to the wooden blades, then the real ones which sat in their protective casing. The blades were fairly short, about the length of a human forearm and about as wide as two fingers. The shape of the blade was a slight curve, with the inside of the curve being a blunt edge. The very tip of the blade was slightly serrated. The grip area was long enough for one hand and wrapped in rope. The wooden replicas for Dacascos were about two thirds the size and lacked the sharp edge and serrated area, but still had rope grips.

Mwezi, XO

“You’re people certainly looked as though they could put up a fight Commander, do you mind if I join your history lesson?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“Unfortunately I have a meeting with the Captain I need to get to, but if you are curious, we can set up a training session or history lesson at a later date,” Mwezi chuckled slightly, glancing at his chronometer.

Mwezi, XO

“It would be my pleasure Commander, as long as Eualilia here is equally as willing?” He shot a wink at the COO and smiled.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

BUMP

-Kieron-

Eulailia turned her attention towards Lieutenant McMillan, offering him a warm smile as he expressed his curiosity and desire to join their lesson. She was glad to see others taking an interest in the Fangs and the Laleri culture.

“Of course, Lieutenant McMillan,” Eulailia replied, her voice filled with warmth. “We would be delighted to have you join us.
She motioned towards the training area, where Commander Mwezi had been demonstrating the techniques with the wooden blades. I’m certain you’ll find the experience enlightening.” Eulailia held up one of the wooden replicas Mwezi had made for her so Paddy could see it.

Dacascos, COO

“Quite the weapon Lieutenant, fancy a spar to show me your skills?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“She doesn’t know how to fight someone with Fangs,” Mwezi called as he finished putting away his equipment. “I’ve only taught her the basic forms. And to be honest I won’t be teaching anyone to actually use the Fangs in combat, I’m not a blade-master.” He walked back over to the two. “I really do have to go now. Please don’t injure yourselves with the wooden replicas or encourage any bad habits. I will message you both after my meeting to schedule a proper lesson that can last a little longer. Bye.”

With that, Mwezi left, going to his meeting with the Captain.

Mwezi, XO

OOC: you two can continue for as long as you like, let me know when you want to start the “training day 2” thread.
- Riley

OOC: I’m ready when you are!
