Sara stood at window in the Cloud. She looked at the Rabid Pelican, screw that, the Asimov. Her pride and joy. Her greatest achievement. It can all come and go so fast. she thought. That’s not a Starfleet ship anymore. It never will be again. Back home they call me traitor. When they feel generous. Maybe they’re right. It seems like so long ago now they promised me they’d put everything back how it was. I don’t have the same XO, CMO, CSO, or goddamn ship. It’ll never be the same again. I’ll never be the reputable, good posture and good etiquette Captain I used to be. I don’t have the heart of a pirate either. I don’t really belong in either world. Both and neither. There’s always the chance everything they said was a lie to begin with. Maybe I should just turn in my Captain’s pips before someone can take them.

“Hey there, Captain,” a voice spoke from behind Sara. Mwezi, much of his brown and tan fur dyed a deep black for the sake of his cover identity as the bodyguard ‘Volk’, stepped up to the window to stare down at the Asimov as well. “Thanks for the ride onto the Cloud. Miss Trevante is resting in her temporary quarters so I decided to do some wandering. Mighty fine ship you’ve got there, eh?”

Mwezi, XO

“You paid the fare, coming here is no problem. The Cloud is different from what I’d expected.” Sara preserved the persona first. She sighed. “It’s a fine ship indeed. One I worked hard to get. Your ride back home might be on a different one.”

Mwezi raised an eyebrow, knowing he had to be careful exactly what he said. No telling who might be listening. “How do you mean?” he asked, leaning up against the window and squinting slightly at the ship. “You kicking us off? Got a higher bid for Miss Trevante’s bunk?” he joked, glancing at the Captain. Behind the jokes there was a serious question he couldn’t voice. How did this effect the rest of their mission?

Mwezi, XO

The Rabid Pelican moved out of its bay and off to another, further down the station. “Moving up in the world. You’ll meet the Broken Dawn soon. Still my crew, but we’re on a newer, better ship.”

-CO

Mwezi nodded, a look of relief briefly crossing his face before he returned to the casual Volk. Not that anyone without an understanding of his species’ facial expressions would find it easy to notice. A flick of the ear, a twitch of the fur. He let out a long sigh. “Well, congrats on the upgrade!” he finally decided on, looking at his Captain for a brief moment before leaning against the ‘glass’ window and looking into the corridor. “I’m sure the Broken Dawn will serve you well. I look forward to seeing it - and getting a ride back home. You Starfleet types are surprisingly good at this ferrying rich folks around thing. Maybe it’s cause you don’t get tired and slit their throats like folks who grew up like me might do.” He chuckled darkly, ‘making idle conversation.’ An alert that he’d set up on his wrist-comm went off and he checked it. “Ah, looks like Miss Trevante wants to explore the station a little more. See ya later, Cap.”

Mwezi, XO
