Aasrel had never been the nervous type. He hadn’t been nervous when he attended Academy, nor during his previous ship boardings. He figured most new crew wanted to make a good impression. He simply didn’t care either way. Either he would make a good impression or he wouldn’t.It mattered more to him now, for different reasons. The reactions people had to him annoyed him. He did everything he could to hide the parts of him that looked different. That reminded him of what he’d been through. Today was no different. The long sleeved uniform covered his arm, and he wore gloves to hide the evidence of his cybernetic implant on his arm and hand.
Otherwise, he seemed confident, perhaps overly so, as he stood in the corridors deciding how best to go about meeting the XO for his check-in. His promotion and transfer had been both sudden and unexpected. He felt prepared for it, if perhaps a tad inexperienced. The only thing nerves served to do was make him perform worse. He decided to comm and see what the XO would prefer him do. He at least knew the XO’s name, he’d seen it on the transfer paperwork. =/\= Izei to Commander Mwezi. Where would you like me to meet you to officially report for duty? =/\=
~ Izei, CMO
Mwezi was, at that moment, quietly sitting in his office, skimming reports from the various departments. He filtered out the ones that could be put off until later, set aside things that he thought would be best brought to the Captain’s attention, and placing in a third folder those which he thought were both urgent and minor enough to do himself. He glanced up at the sound of a communication and touched a button on the wide leather band he wore on his wrist to receive the statement of the communication. He reviewed his memories for the name, then glanced at one of the file names within the folder of things he needed to deal with himself. The transfer of a new CMO to the ship, an Aasrel Iezi. That must be this.
=^= Mwezi to Lt. j.g. Iezi. I am in my office, you can meet me here.=^=
With that he opened the man’s file, glancing over it for the basic information it might be useful to know on first meeting.
Mwezi, XO
=/\= Acknowledged. =/\= There were several minutes after the comm call for Mwezi to read over the file. Aasrel had done the Medical program at the Academy and graduated not at the very top of his class, but with honours, and had been assigned the USS Intrepid right after his graduation in 2397. He specialized in infectious disease and diagnostics. The Intrepid had been lost in a Borg attack in September of 2398, and Aasrel’s file showed he had been injured in that attack, and transferred to the USS Lexington while he healed. He had several surgeries while there. In January of this year, he’d been considered healthy enough to transfer off to the Memorial, where he served for a few months before receiving his promotion and transferring to the Azimov in order to fill the vacant CMO position. There were no disciplinary actions against him, nor complaints in his file, in fact, he was considered an excellent officer. It was marked that due to the attack, he was supposed to have regular visits with a counselor. At last the chime on the door rang, ending Mwezi’s time to read over the file.
Heading down the corridor, Aasrel checked a PaDD he carried with him for the office’s location, electing to find the office that way rather than search pointlessly and make himself late. He rode a lift to the right deck and strode down the corridor to the correct door and rang the chime on the door.
Aasrel was of an average height and build, not remarkably tall or short, nor remarkably small or large. He had short brown hair to compliment a tanned complexion and the black eyes characteristic of a betazoid. He was a bit plain looking perhaps, but handsome, his looks marred slightly by the three by two inch plate embedded in the left side of his head over his ear, covered somewhat by his hair. His uniform was neat. Thin gloves covered his hands and went up into the sleeve if the uniform. Once the door had opened, he said, “Lieutenant Izei, reporting for duty as promised. You must be Commander Mwezi.”

Mwezi stood as the door chimed, placing the PaDD he’d been reading face-down on the desk. He pressed the little button that would make the door open. “Come in,” he spoke. In contrast to the average height and build of the CMO, Mwezi was a giant. Towering at 8 ft tall, the man resembled a humanoid canine in the way that Caitians were humanoid felines. His golden eyes examined Izei with an expression that was soft and curious. “Lt, please take a seat,” he gestured to a couple of chairs before sitting down again. Sitting made his height less overbearing, although it was still obvious.
Aasrel stepped in and took a seat with little more than a quick glance over at the XO and his canine appearance.
“How aware are you regarding our current mission and situation?” Mwezi asked.
Mwezi, XO
He looked up to Mwezi and shook his head with a little shrug and a chuckle. “Let’s just say no one was much on talking on my long, long journey in,” he replied. “Something secretive, I take it.”
~ Lt JG Izei, CMO
“More than secret. If the details of this mission get out, many lives are at stake,” the man replied, fully serious, not reacting to the chuckle. “Officially, you are either dead or a traitor to the Federation. The end goal of this mission is to root out some of the deepest corruption I’ve ever seen in this Federation.”
“You were likely chosen for this transfer because the higher-ups who know about this mission think that you might not be missed, or that your treason is not unreasonable. The rest of us were already onboard the Asimov when she started on this journey. She’s called the Rabid Pelican now. Officially, we’re pirates out for nothing more than our own glory. You’d best remember that.”
Mwezi, XO
OOC: Iezi will need a ‘cover story’ for the mission. You can decide whether the story is that he defected and joined the crew, or that Iezi is “dead” and now playing the role of a different person.
- Riley“My treason wouldn’t be unreasonable…?” Aasrel nodded, touching one arm with the other hand. “I can see how they’d come to that conclusion.” He spent a moment thinking, “I’m too recognizable to pass off as another person, not because I’m anyone important but because of my… specific medical history. I’d say I’m intended to look like a deserter or defector who joined your crew.”
~ Lt JG Izei, CMO
Mwezi nodded thoughtfully. “It’s likely. I am also a little too recognizable, unless I dye my fur and that is something I would prefer to avoid. There are not many of my race in Starfleet.”
Aasrel nodded without comment, though he recognized the man was right: he was way too recognizeable, and whatever species he was, Aasrel was unfamiliar with it.
He checked a PaDD, then looked up at the man again. “Is there anything in particular you require from me? If not, I have some forms that require your signature and I think we will be good.”
Mwezi, XO
“No, sir,” Aasrel replied, shaking his head. He held his hand out for the PaDD, and when offered one, signed the required forms. “If that’s all, I’d like to get to work.”
