(snip)

Maybe it was the drink (it wasn’t). Maybe it was the constant stress (it wasn’t). Maybe it was just that Micah was so embroiled in the mission that he needed something to distract him (DING DING DING we have a winner!), but he looked at the woman, slowly looked her up and down as equally unabashedly as she had looked at him, and then said “Oh, and then some.” and the chair across from him slid out with a well-placed kick from his foot. “Have a seat.” he said and reached back and grabbed another glass from the tray behind him. “Drink?” he asked and didnt wait for an answer as he poured it half-full.

She set her tray down and slid into the chair. “Dare I ask what you’re drinking?” she asked before taking half of the fiery wrap and took a bite slowly, her lips closing around the bite as it might the most exquisite thing she’d ever had. Closing her eyes, she sighed ever so slightly with delight, even as the spicy brine that flavoured the filling coated her mouth in tingling heat.

Micah smiled and said “Do you really care?” and he inched the glass closer to her. “So… you are one of the few on this ship that doesn’t hate me, I take it? Rare company, if that’s the case.” and he chuckled and took a sip. “Or did you just hear through the rumor-mill that I have the best hooch on the ship? Either way, feel free to enjoy.” His eyes narrowed slightly and he said “I don’t remember your face from the files. So either you managed to sneak on board- which I doubt-, or the Doc took some liberties with my created dossiers. Care to share which it is?”

She simply reached for the glass and knocked a healthy amount of it back without even a twitch, her brown eyes gazing at him over the edge of the glass. “Yes,” she said, rather intentionally being confusing in her reply.

“As for hating you, well, I survived the Cardassian Occupation as a member of a resistance cell and I’m pretty sure I don’t have to go into details explaining why that makes me view our little mission in a different light. People these days who were raised on Federation worlds where nothing rarely is wrong don’t get that the rest of the galaxy couldn’t care less how you feel about things. It’ll chew you up and spit you out without a second thought.” She bit into her hapserat, once again making a tiny show of the simple action.
