She couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh Lieutenant, you really don’t know anything about me, do you? I’ve been someone one else the majority of my career in Starfleet. My missions were long terms. Months. Years, sometimes. I’ve only been Shara Calloway for the last few years, since I came back from my last field assignment- the one that left me with PTSD. So yeah, it’s been harder to be here as myself, and it’s the first time in over twenty years that I’ve served on a ship with a crew. I’m doing my best to navigate a lot of changes lately and this mission and its murky nature is making things more complicated, more tenuous.”

“I see,” Paddy rubbed hos chin in thought, “Commander, do you mind if I schedule another appointment for the next couple of days, with Doctor Ryley acting as a consultant?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“Why the hell not,” she said simply. “So long as our mission allows for it. See, that’s the problem. We’re on a time crunch and I don’t have time to not be okay. But that’s the thing, right? I know, just like you do that we can’t afford me to be off my game. So yeah, let’s do that.” Let no one say she wasn’t reasonable. After all, Shara’s job was about protecting the ship and crew and she couldn’t do that if she was getting distracted by her symptoms.

“Thank you Commander,” Paddy said rising quickly, “I think I can work on something going forward, if you’ll have me?”

Shara just sighed. “Look, I don’t trust people easily and it takes time to rebuild that when someone has broken it. But I know I don’t have a lot of other options, so we can give it a try and see how it goes. But I will tell you this, I’m fine with people making mistakes but you ever pull the kind of crap you did before then we are done and I owe you no more chances. Understood?”

“You have my word, it won’t happen again.” Paddy nodded politely and took off out of the room, knowing exactly where he needed to go next.
